Built in 1822 Les Granges is a lovely 19th century country house constructed in the local sandstone. Renovated and fully refurbished by the present owners to a high standard without losing its character but having the benefits of modern living. The accommodation is on 3 floors having 3 double bedrooms, 2 twin bedrooms and 1 large double which can be converted to twin beds if required. Each bedroom having it's own bath or shower room and WC. The spacious dining kitchen is very well equipped and has seating for 12. For those who like to cook the region is a gourmet's delight with several local markets and producers of the delicious duck and foie gras. The lounge has a raised well stocked library area and an open log fire for winter evenings. Set in mature gardens with mature walnut trees it has a sunny pool area and plenty of shady places for al fresco dining.
Situated just 2 minutes walk from the river Vezere and the village of Le Moustier the house has a perfect view of Le Roque St Christophe. This kilometer long cave inhabited from prehistoric times until the 17th century is spectacular when illuminated at night. Le Moustier is a pretty village close to the Vezere river, although small it has a bar/restaurant/tabac and a boulangerie. There are delightful walks along the riverbank and for the more adventurous canoes and kayaks can be hired at several stages along the river.
Les Granges is within easy reach of the beautiful medieval towns of Sarlat and Perigueux and the famous cave paintings of Lascaux and Les Eyzies are only approx 15 mins drive away, well worth a visit. "The land of a 1000 chateaux" the perigord noir is home to many medieval castles, Beynac castle is a popular venue for visitors, being one of the most authentic and sympathetically restored buildings it has been used as a location for a number of films.
