  We spent 5 wonderful nights at the Slice of Paradise and had a wonderful stay. My husband and I along with our two children ages 6 and 3.5 y.o. rented the lower level and our friends (no children) rented the top bungalow. It was the perfect arrangement for both couples and we really enjoyed having the cooking facilities in both bungalows. The quiet beach, situated right across the street, was breathtaking and I especially enjoyed my morning walks in virtual solitude. Ron was an amazing host and went out of his way to make our trip as memorable as possible. He helped arrange tours, gave endless directions and suggestions as well as helped book accommodations for the next leg of our journey. We had a great time playing in the surf and had use of Ron's boogie boards when we wanted them. This was a great location to stay as we were able to commute a short distance to Manuel Antonio then return from the hustle and bustle to quiet Playa Matapalo. When we did decide to eat out Ron always directed us to fantastic locations. Make sure you check out the Feliz Langosta on the highway near the Matapalo turnoff as it had the best seafood we tasted in all of Costa Rica! We would highly recommend Slice of Paradise and look forward to staying there again in the future.

  We spent 5 days in Paradise staying here. There were four adults and we had plenty of room to relax in the house together or to have privacy in our own spaces. The house is modern and furnished with the basics to cook or snack. There are local cafes with regional food that is delicious if you do not want to cook. The beach is a black sand beach which is clean and beautiful. Some mornings you may walk the beach by yourself. Ron is a great host. You have access to his boogie boards, surf board and bikes. He will make arrangements for activities you may be interested in or offer suggestions. Everyone is very friendly in Costa Rica no matter where we went. This will be a well remembered vacation by all of us.

  We stayed here for two nights and enjoyed it very much. We rented the house and enjoyed cooking in the very well equipped kitchen. The view of the second floor is nice, the location is in the middle of nature. I would recommend it for families, since there is one big bedroom which can fit up to 5 people. The two beds in the living room are less attractive, though the sleeping quality is good.

  Recommended for: Families with young children.

  Our experience at Slice of Paradise was better than our expectations! The bungalow was clean, modern, and well equiped. Ron was both an attentive host while respecting our privacy. He recommended and arranged adventurous outings (rafting, kayaking, hiking) as well as suggested places for eating. Cafes within an easy walk as well within neighboring villages captured authentic cuisine served by very friendly local residents. Outside our door was an abundance of native vegetation (lush palm trees), and animals (monkeys, sloths), although I learned monkeys do not like their pictures taken! The beach was fantastic! I find words do not adequately describe what a truly amazing experience we had. I absolutely recommend Slice of Paradise.

  Great safe place to enjoy "almost" your own beach and rain forrest. Ron seems to know and be loved by everyone in the area(ticos and tour guides). He is great at describing what is available and setting up whatever experience you want each day. It also is a bonus to have free access to his bikes, kayak, boogie boards, beach chairs. Units are clean, safe, air conditioned and well furnished. Wonderful personalized experience/education that was way better than a high rise resort!

  We really enjoyed our stay at the surf shack. It was just what we needed next to the beach. Ron provides chairs, boogie boards, surf boards, and towels this was nice amenity added to our stay. The A/C was an added bonus as we are from Colorado and don't have a lot of humidity. Ron was a great host, and would recommend to anyone that you should stay at the Slice of Paradise.

  We just returned from our stay at Slice of Paradise in Matapalo, Costa Rica. This place has something for everyone. The 2 teenagers with us learned to surf in less than 30 minutes with one lesson from a local surfer right across the street from the cottage and we also went horseback riding on the beach & into the jungle. Zip lining to waterfalls in the mountains, each place more beautiful than the last. Ron took care of every detail for us. All we had to do is ask and he accommodated every request along with Cappy, his crab digging dog. The place comes with monkeys, birds, sloths, and butterflies bigger than birds in the trees on the beautiful well maintained property. Located in a quiet unspoiled area with the most beautiful beach yet close to excellent restaurants and night life to party until morning if you want to do the bar crawl. We will be returning as often as possible and recommending it to all and forever consider it our second home.

  Our stay at Slice of Paradise was delightful. It a one minute walk from the most beautiful beach we saw in Costa Rica. The bungalow was just as described - clean, well maintained, very sweet. Ron, the owner was incredibly helpful in planning our arrival, our time in Costa Rica, and making arrangements for us. In addition, he is just a really nice guy. Montapolo and the area is quiet, undeveloped, (no lights visible on the beach at night), and close to lots of things to do. We would (and have) recommed staying with Ron at Slice of Paradise to all.

  We broke down and finally wrote a review for this place. Although we thought about just keeping it for ourselves. We stumbled into town not knowing where to stay and we really lucked out to find Ron over by the beach. He told us about his place and when we saw it, we were hooked. Playa Matapalo is a true hidden gem of a beach. The bungalows are extremely comfortable, clean and modern. Directly across the dirt road and past a sloth or 2 is a mostly deserted beach, where you can have your own palm tree to shade you from the sun. If you surf, the waves can be really great too. We wish we had more time as Ron was a first class host and is excited to show you the hidden treasures of the area! The full kitchen means you can cook your own rice & beans and live a week for almost no extra costs. There is a guy who brings fresh coconuts and fruit every day too! We will make it back here for a longer stay for sure!!!

  I came to Slice of Paradise with a girl friend of mine, and we had the time of our lives! Costa Rica is such a wonderful country and starting our experience with Ron in his beautiful bungalow was the best way to start our trip! We spent five nights with Ron and Ive never known a more gracious host. The beach is beyond words and to be one of only a few people on it each day made for the utmost relaxing experience. Thank you Ron for sharing your place, i would recommend this Slice of Paradise to anyone and everyone!!!
