The very personally decorated and well-loved family cottage is located in Salvo, North Carolina which is on Hatteras Island about 30 miles South of Nags Head on Highway 12 just South of mile marker 42. One of the sisters, JoEllen, is an interior designer, and Mary is a calligrapher, and artist, so lots of extra touches not found in most rental properties....you'll love it.
The cottage is on the ocean side about a block from the beach. BEACH access is only a short 5 minute walk down to the end of the street, across the dunes, and There It Is! A very private and unpopulated beach most weeks. The sound is a 12 minute walk West. You can enjoy sound access on a dock across the highway for special sound sunset watching! We bring a bottle of wine, and a camera!
Heaven's Edge holds six adults, or four adults and four children, comfortably. We have three bedrooms (queen, queen, and two sets of bunk beds) and two full bathrooms, one with a bathtub/shower combo the other shower only. All of the bedrooms have color cable TV with VCRs(yup), clock radios, and the bunk room also has a Nintendo 64 (yup) game player and games. There is a radio warning system for storms. We have WIFI.
The family room has a 37" color, digital cable,1080 dpi (We hope to have HDTV on Hatteras this summer, cable not there yet), with a Sony Sound Bar providing surround-like sound, and CD/DVD/VHS and ipod dock. The digital cable TV has all the music channels available for your enjoyment. There are many CDs and DVD/VHS movies available for your use, and books galore for beach reading. There is an indoor sunroom with a new in '08 ultra large pillow-filled banquette fondly named "The Pit". It is sooo perfect for lounging, reading or napping as the sun comes in and the breeze from the open windows gently wafts by.
The home has a washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, stove/oven, and all major appliances which makes "cooking in" and keeping up with beach towels and laundry, a breeze! There is a boom box for use on the deck.
We also have a full service spa/gym on the Island now...SPA KORU in Avon...for a wonderful massage, work out, pedicure or manicure...ahhhhhh! Our guests have loved it....so have we!
You will find a lovely little gift upon arrival to say thank you. And of course, the house is pre-stocked with trash bags, soaps, and dish detergent to get you started.
Outside of the cottage there is a very large sunny deck with comfy deck furniture that you will probably be spending most of your time enjoying. On the deck is a 4-6 person Hot Tub that is great to relax in after being on the beach all day. There is an outdoor shower that is perfect for using after coming off the beach with those sandy feet. You can rent any beach chairs, bikes, and baby paraphernalia just steps north of us on Highway 12.
Another popular family activity is to take the free Hatteras Inlet Ferry from Hatteras Village to explore the quaint fishing village on Ocracoke Island or climb the famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse only a short drive away. Ocracoke was named the Nations #1 beach for 2007! From Heaven's Edge, you are only 45 minutes away from the free ferry to OCRACOKE! And watch for the new Nicolas Sparks book-to-movie "NIGHTS IN RODANTHE" which features our Hatteras tri-villages, and was filmed in a house in Rodanthe. (and also Richard Gere and Diane Lane)! My family and I traveled to Salvo to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday and we could not have picked a better place to do that than this cottage. No detail was spared in making this place something extra special to enjoy. In fact I would pick this cozy cottage over the bigger bland houses available in the area. We never felt crowded and enjoyed all the efforts that the owners put into making it feel like a summer retreat. Thank you so very much for putting so much of yourselves into the cottage. We would defintely like to stay here again!!!

Great place for a wonderful vacation. The house is perfect with all the comforts of home and the attention to detail is outstanding. We enjoyed the beautiful beach and the relaxing hot tub. We had beautiful weather day after day which was a plus as well. Heaven's Edge is a perfect house with wonderful owners who care about their renters. We had a great week in this cottage that makes you feel that you are renting from friends or family. Everything you will need is here, and the beach is a very reasonable walk, even with two kids, chairs, toys, boogie boards, etc. The house is in a quiet neighborhood with little traffic and the sound is a short walk with a pier that is ideal for sunsets, fishing, or crabbing. The house is decorated very nicely and you feel right at home in this cottage. Great vacation in a great house... can't wait to go back!!!

A wonderful relaxing space. My friend and I like to read, and don't particularly need to go looking for activities or restaurants or pirate theme-parks (all of which are available). Excellent fresh produce stands on the way down. Asparagus galore, and peaches and blueberries. Good for walking on the nature trails nearby. And the beach, of course.We did succumb to the Merrell Factory Outlet. Our weather was perfect. No need to use air conditioning with the wafting ocean breezes. I would recommend "Heaven's Edge" for all ages. "Grannies," such as ourselves, as well as all other age groups.

Our family (with 4 young children) had a wonderful stay here and would highly recommend this as an Outer Banks rental. The house had a nice beach/ocean theme and was very relaxing. The bunk beds worked great for the kids and the other bedrooms were comfortable too. The living room with fully stocked entertainment system was relaxing as well, not to mention the deck and hot tub. This house is within reasonable walking distance to the ocean and the surrounding area was very quiet while we were there. It's worth a close look. The owner is very helpful too!

This adorable, clean home was perfect for my husband's and my partial week getaway! It took only a few minutes to get to the beach access, and there is 4x4 beach access within a mile or so. I was initially nervous about renting through a private individual, but it couldn't have been smoother. JoEllen was great. Thanks for sharing your great home!

Its funny, as soon as my wife and I made our initial walk through of the house, we both said, "we'd live here." Heaven's Edge is definitely a well loved house and immediately puts you in relaxation mode upon entering the house. The house has a great layout that not only provides an intimate space for a couple, but also for a large gathering of family and friends. The bedroom and bathrooms were a good size and clean. The media setup was fantastic.The board games were a huge bonus. The grill worked perfectly. If you enjoy sitting out on a deck, you could land a helicopter on this one. Finally, the hot tub was clean and ready to go upon our arrival. This place was perfect for a four day getaway for my wife and I, but I wouldn't hestiate to come back for a longer stay or with a larger crowd. The owners were nothing but a pleasure to deal with and the whole setup/location of the house is perfect for anyone who truly enjoys "coastal living." Hope to be back soon.... -Jack & Abby P.S.- I recommend Cafe 12 in Avon for good food and most importantly, good selection of craft beer.

My family of 5 (2 adults and three children under 9) stayed at Heavens Edge in August 2010. We cannot say enough about how comfortable this beach cottage is -- no detail has been overlooked! We loved the "Pit" on the sun porch/entrance area, where the children played for hours when not at the beach or on an OBX adventure. The house is equipped with everything you need for family meals and beautifully decorated! We had one rainy day and the hot tub was a perfect end to a cooler beach afternoon (we even used it to relax after warmer days on the beach -- just the right place to enjoy appetizers and drinks following a days' activities). The walk to the beach is short (though the dunes are wide and beautiful). The cottage is surrounded by wood lots with privacy on either side (love the outdoor shower). Our children played football in the yard with dad, and spend mornings and evenings under the house playing out of the sun. We could hear them and keep an eye on them because the cottage is perfectly sized (in fact) -- we did not use all the bedrooms. The cottage is located in what we consider SOBX (South Outer Banks), south of Oregon Inlet. Easy access to the Hatteras Lighthouse and Ocracoke Island (an exceptional place for boating) for a day's adventure. Ten minutes at most to grocery and fresh seafood markets, easy drive. Convenience stores and are closely located and an ice cream shop around the corner (a symphony of frogs there!), as well as near kayak, boogie board, skim board, & bike rental. There is no end to beach and soundside activities (including free adventure with the National Park Service in the summer months). A trip to NOBX (North Outer Banks) is a nice evening out (but lots more traffic) -- Bodie Island Lighthouse, Oregon Inlet (deep sea fishing), and Jockey's Ridge (best at SUNSET). If you are looking for a family beach location and some relaxing days without hustle and bustle, this is the PLACE! We'll certainly be back (and there is a very touching family story behind the cottage . . . how it got it's name).

My husband and I felt like we were in "OUR" home from the minute we walked in the door. The feeling was " There's No Place Like Home" from the minute we walked in the door. Everyroom was decorated with TLC and softly spoke the words; "Relax" and "Enjoy". And, we did. I would highly recommend this lovely home as your next "Get-Away" Come True... We will visit again...
