A group of 11 friends stayed at the house a few weeks ago, and we had a really relaxing time. The house had enough rooms to accommodate all of us, and the common spaces were big enough for full-group gatherings. The three porches and big windows allowed for a lot of water-gazing, which was just what we needed to retreat from the busyness of our lives!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners.

Our West Coast family rented home for a week for a family wedding in Charlestown. Renting this house from the pictures alone could have been a scary experience, but the home is exactly as pictured! We had a lovely time and enjoyed our visit. Very peaceful location. Loved watching the pair of eagles catching their dinner. Thank you!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We loved our weekend at Little River. The location is amazing, and the house is in great shape. The deck, yard, and grill were perfect for relaxing, playing frisbee, and enjoying the view. This was our second stay at the house and we'd definitely come back again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

I can't say enough about this house or E.B! It's always such a relief when the vacation rental meets expectations... but it's such a bonus when it exceeds them! The view was amazing... We rented the upstairs - which is just perfect for a family with young kids! The house had everything we needed, was very clean and you just can't beat the view! My only complaint was that we were so busy visiting relatives elsewhere that we didn't have enough time to just sit on the deck, relax and catch a glimpse of the bald eagles! E.B. was great... very responsive and it's very obvious he really cares about his home and his guests! We'll definitely come back... and rearrange our schedules next time so we have more downtime to spend at the house! :) Thanks, E.B. - for making a tough week so much easier! :)Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It's always good to meet great people. Jeana and her family were model guests and we look forward to having them back again when they can spend more time on the river. Thank you for the kind words. E.B.

My husband and I rented the upstairs as the downstairs was already rented. The owner was really great and lives nearby. He clearly cares about his vacation home and his guests. We had a GPS and the owner's directions and had no difficulty at all. We ended up making several quick trips to Walmart and had almost learned the way ourselves without the GPS. We arrived in time to have a late lunch on one of the two upstairs balcony/decks. We were there maybe 20 minutes and we saw 4 Bald Eagles! There are binoculars at the ready in the house. It was awesome! We continued to see all kinds of birds through the weekend. We heard there was a nearby resident beaver but never got to see him. The layout is very open and comfortable. The updated ceiling fan and light and vaulted ceiling in the master bedroom make it feel so special. There were stacks and stacks of thick towels and plenty of blankets and sheets as well. I loved the new (fast!) washer and dryer! Renting the whole house would be perfect for a family reunion, group retreat, or just a family to spread out and relax. Renting either upstairs or downstairs would be great too, though probably not so much for a really private time like a honeymoon or anniversary weekend. We were there in February which can be a "blah" time but on the grounds of this home it had its own beauty. It is so restorative to listen to the quiet and hear the water lapping at the shore, or listen to the birds. We found it to be a very peaceful tucked-away stay. It was perfectly wonderful!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Stayed here with friends over New Years. House was in great shape when we arrived (despite the previous tenets trashing the place) and E.B. (owner) was a pleasure to work with. He was relaxed, welcoming and even let us check out a little later than originally agreed. The area around the house is nice and we took several runs and walks. House is comfortable and has everything you need and is literally right on the water. Would gladly stay there again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our family vacation consisted of my husband, myself, our married son, his wife, their small children, ages 7 months, and 3 years. We moored a 19' boat at the provided mooring, and rented the whole house. We had a wonderful time, no problems with the air conditioning as with an earlier reviewer, it was actually cold when we arrived, and we had to turn up the temperature even on an extremely hot week. It was a great rental location for the children. The three year old loved the bunk beds. Both children loved playing in the sand and in the shallow water. The children and my son enjoyed the wildlife in the creek located on the side of the house. Turtles would sun on a log during the day, and Eagles and Blue Heron were spotted daily. Puzzles, games and toys were available, along with movies, books, TV's (at least 4) to providing entertainment. We enjoyed a campfire on a cooler evening, and enjoyed a marvelous lunch at Woody's in the North East, one of the best seafood meals I have ever eaten. As long time boaters on the Chesapeake, we found the North East to be a pleasant boating location. Typical river rock as you enter the water, but not very far out, and then a nice sandy bottom. You could tube and ski right in front of the house. If you love lighthouses like I do, the North East is just a short boat ride to Fishing Battery, Concord Point and Turkey Point lighthouses. The home was attractive, and comfortable, and we couldn't determine whether we preferred the lower or upper part of the house best. Each area had something different to offer. I highly recommend this vacation rental, it was a pleasant experience worthy of a repeat performance.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is the second time we have stayed in this home and we hope to be back often! The house was very clean, the furnishings were comfortable, we had everything we needed in the kitchen, and the house was decorated very nicely. There were 10 of us staying in the house, and we did not feel crowded at all! We had a blast using the kyack, swimming in the bay and sunning on the porch. We enjoyed watching the variety of wildlife. We highly recommend this home to anyone wanting a very relaxing getaway.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We rented both the 1st & 2nd floor for a week for our family in June 2011. We arrived on a very hot & humid Saturday afternoon only to find that the air conditioning was not working on the 2nd floor. One phone call to E.B. and he was there within minutes. The service company arrived shortly after and had the air unit fixed in no time. We were very impressed with the quick response. The location is fantastic and the sunrises are beautiful. We enjoyed the eagles and the river otters and just relaxing by the water. Of course we made s'mores by the fire at night and swam during the day. The home is equipped with everything you need from TV's to blenders and also plenty of books and games. We spent a day at the Elk Neck State Park Beach and shopped in the small shops in North East. We ate at the Nauti Goose in North East, the Tidewater Grill in Havre de Grace and had the best take-out #1 crabs we ever had from Buckland Seafood in Elkton. Our 3 year old grandson loved the playground area in Charlestown. The best part about the whole trip was the fact that E.B. allows dogs and we were able to bring our black lab who just loved the water. She even enjoyed her daily shampoo after swimming. Since none of our children live at home anymore it was fun to have everyone under the same roof again. We laughed and made many new memories. Thank you E.B for sharing your home with us.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I was so lucky to find this rental. I have been visiting different areas of the Chesapeake for most of my life and this is the ideal rental. The owners are fair and accomodating. They answered my questions promptly and were always helpful. I do not live very far from Perryville, Maryland and was able to actually view the house on line and in person. I fell in love with it. The location is private and quiet but only minutes away from Northeast, Charlestown, and Perryville Maryland. The house itself is open and airy and has a beautiful view of the water. It sits next to a woods and viewing American Eagles was definitely a plus. The house was clean and very "renter friendly," well maintained and comfortable. I like to walk and I was close to Perryville Community Park and the Elk Neck State Park which was a short drive. It is close to some very excellent restaurants in Northeast and Charlestown, as well as Perryville. A perfect day in Northeast is shopping in some of the quaint shops and having a great meal in one of the many restaurants located there. One of the best things about this rental was being able to wake up and watch the sunrise every morning from the deck off of the bedroom. And going to sleep at night with the moon reflecting off of the water. It is a great place where you can relax and be quiet reading a book, or take a kayak out on the water and explore. Boating and fishing are two of the greatest attractions to the area. I would certainly recommend this rental to friends, family and strangers. It is wonderful. I can't wait until next year.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The house is spacious comfortable and well equipped. The listing and the website were accurate, and provided good information. The owners were accessible and accommidating. Their willingness to rent a flexible number of days, not just Saturday to Saturday, and the option to rent the whole house or just one floor was a big factor in choosing this house. We had a lot of fun in the boats, and the campfires with smores by the water was great. We enjoyed immensely the bald eagles that we saw on several days. Baltimore was reasonably convenient with lots of activities for the days it rained. We had a great time and would recommend this house.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

This is a great house! We wanted to find a place where our two families (including three young children) could spend time together. We were coming from New York City and Washington DC, and this house was perfect. We rented the entire house for a week and had a wonderful time. The house is clean and well-furnished, and there are lots of activities to keep the kids busy. The kids especially liked playing in the water, fishing, watching the eagles, and chasing fireflies. We also enjoyed exploring antique shops and other sights in the nearby towns. The weather was perfect -- clear skies and full moon. We are so happy we found this house. We all had a great time and I hope you get to enjoy this home soon!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My non-profit organization decided at the VERY last minute to extend our board meeting into a weekend retreat. The owner was very accommodating. We drove up at night, which, for a group of young women, I do not necessarily recommend. The roads are extremely dark and the street signs are hard to read. If you have a navigation system, it will be your best friend! The porch is lit up in Christmas lights, so had we known that ahead of time, we would have easily found it initially. (A tip I would give the owner would be to note on the contract/instructions that the mailbox is at the top of the road and that the front porch is adorned in Christmas lights!). The house is very large and comfortable. The downstairs is more modern than upstairs, but both are quite comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with all of the amenities of home. The view of the river is absolutely GORGEOUS! It is very peaceful and scenic and perfect for reading a book, star/nature gazing or sipping a glass of wine, especially with the waves lapping onto shore. One negative for me would have to be the neighbors. They had 3 very large dogs that were quite menacing. Apparently they frequent the back yard of this property because there was dog excrement everywhere. It prevented us from doing any type of activity outside on the grass. Since the houses are so close together, I would also suggest that curtains/blinds were added to the windows downstairs. If you are washing dishes or walking/standing around downstairs and the neighbors happen to be outside, (which they or their guests frequently were) they can see you clearly and vice versa. The good news is that there is only one neighbor to deal with. The other side of the house is pure wilderness. The other negative for me was the check out checklist. I had no problems with some of the items on the list (emptying/replacing trash bags, loading dishwasher, etc.), but I felt some duties were a bit much. If I am on vacation, I do not want to wash/dry towels/sheets, clean/scrub a bathroom, vacuum, etc. Most vacation homes I’ve rented in the past requested I leave the towels/linen in a pile. My extent of clean up was washing dishes and putting them away, emptying trash cans and that’s it. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and a productive meeting. If a privacy fence was added and some check out requirements were relaxed a bit, I think the future renters will have nothing but positive remarks for this property.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: This was a same-day reservation for which the guest received a 10% discount. As always, instructions regarding the key pickup were given to the reserving guest prior to arrival, along with written directions. I did not receive instructions to send information to any separately arriving guest. While I found out that our neighbor had taken in two of his son's dogs, I was not aware of that until during this guest's stay. The guests also advised me someone's car got stuck in a wet area, and that the neighbors graciously helped them extricate themselves. As far as the yard issues, my inspection following this guest's departure revealed that a large group of geese had recently visited our waterfront area. Since I live just up the road, I would have been happy to clean up the offending material had I been advised. We have used the departure checklist since beginning our rental business in 2007. We are always happy to work with guests who are pressed for time on their departure day. If requested, we can take care of the cleaning and linens for an additional fee, or guests are welcome to bring their own linens. I am pleased they enjoyed themselves despite their issues and hope they will stay with us again.

We rented the house for my 30th birthday party in December and what an amazing experience. When we arrived, the place was already warm and inviting. There was a fully trimmed Christmas tree and we could tell that the owners put a lot of love into making it feel like a second home and not just a money-making property. A heavy door separates the upstairs unit from the downstairs, making it very easy to cut down the noise of a party while others are sleeping. Also, the fully-equipped kitchen made cooking for a group pretty easy. The views from the balcony and jetty were spectacular; ducks and herons fishing by day, a full moon and superb view of the stars in the evening. No traffic noise either, so it truly felt like a retreat. It is a rare experience to have a fire on the water, let alone a place to have one already available, i.e. fire ring!. During the day, we headed over to the nearby hydroelectric dam and saw many Bald Eagles; we were told by the professional wildlife photographers that this area was the best Bald Eagle spotting place on the East coast. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice getaway that's not too far from the Baltimore/DC area. Thumbs way up!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We brought a group of 15 graduate students for a weekend retreat in mid-October We rented both the upstairs and downstairs, and the place was absolutely perfect. With couches and air mattress there was plenty of room for all to sleep. The downstairs kitchen and grill was more than big enough for our meals, and the living areas a great setup for group meeting. We had enough room in the yard for volleyball, bocce ball, and a roaring campfire at night. The house was beautiful, comfortable, and clean, and everything we needed was provided - even a kayak and canoe! The views of the bay were beautiful and it was difficult to leave. It's an easy 30 min drive from the University of Delaware in Newark. I'd highly recommend it.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We stayed at Little River Road the weekend of September 20. The house was immaculate, and the view of the river spectacular! We were 5 girlfriends, gathering for a reunion from 3 different states. We stayed in the upstairs apartment, and with the two balconies there was more than enough room for all of us to roam. There were also more than enough Adirondack chairs for all of us to sit by the shoreline to chat and admire the sail and sports boats going by. It was really quiet and peaceful, something we all needed! The water lapping on the shore was as relaxing as a massage. Anything you could ever need is provided - washer/dryer, iron/ironing board, full-size fridge, microwave, pots, plates, utensils, comfortable beds and bedding, tvs, stereo, books and binoculars (lots of bird sightings). Much more comfortable than a hotel. On Saturday evening we had a great seafood meal at Woody's in North East, a 10-15 minute drive. Sunday morning was Waffle House takeout which we ate at a picnic table on the balcony facing the river. My friends and I had such a great time we are thinking of making our gathering here a yearly event! But after seeing the moonlight shining on the water on a calm Saturday night, I think my husband and I will be back much sooner for a romantic weekend:)Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

The cottage is wonderful with all the equipment you need. The full-time resident neighbors are very nice, including the animal ones: bald eagles! The house also comes with a sail-fish, fishing canoe and kayak. Great place for couples seeking a little peace and quiet or families. The owner is nice as can be and was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and places to explore. We rented this house for 5 days in Aug. 2008. Since we had 6 adults and a gaggle of kids we rented the entire house and it worked out perfectly. Each floor is open and bright and CLEAN. The bedrooms are adorable, roomy and comfortable and everything is so nicely decorated. The downstairs bath has a bowl sink that really impressed the kids. The living rooms are inviting and open to the dining and kitchen areas. There are laundry facilities both up and down. I don't think the pics on this site do the home justice. It is so much better in person. The river is a stones throw from the back door and the kids had a ball floating on their boogie boards and tubes and kayaking. We moored our boat just offshore and it was great because we could actually walk out to it. We took the family tubing, barbecued on the grills and fished. For a serious fisherman you might want to head out to deeper waters. But the kids loved catching the small fish. One morning just before sunrise I threw a line out for about 2 hours and caught 30 fish. All baby bass and white perch. The silence and sunrise were worth setting the alarm for.The house was clean. Everything worked and is fully stocked with everything you could need for breakfasts, to dinners, to frozen drinks. There are multiple decks on which we could hang out together or in private. The sunrise was amazing and there is even a bald eagle nest in a tree next door. We all watched him as he dove to the water's surface for fish. It was very cool. Perryville is a quiet little town but we were able to get takeout from a local pizza place and it was not far from a local market where we picked up crabs and steamers. Otherwise, we had no reason to leave the property. We appreciated being able to bring our dog, a lab, who loved the water as much as the kids did. Having a fire riverside was so relaxing and fun. We all had such a great time and hope to return again next year- this time we'll stay a little longer. We would definitely recommend this home to families looking for a family oriented vacation. It was so close to home yet we felt a world away .Thank you EB for a great time and you keep your property in great condition. You made our stay a pleasure and we hope to return. We'll send pics of the family and kids as this trip really helped make some great family memories. Thanks again. My in-laws, mother, wife and myself stayed here for a weekend family getaway. We rented the entire house. The accommodations were very good. The beds were comfortable, house was clean, view of the water was great. Everything in the house worked as expected and it has all the ammenities. My husband and I have visited this home in June 2008 and April 2009. Both times we experienced nothing but true comfort and relaxation. The first time we stayed in the home we rented the upstairs which had a spacious kitchen and bedroom as well as great views of the river. The front and back decks upstairs were used quite often as we enjoyed the wilderness (which included bald eagles, hawks, mallards and cranes) and the beautiful Chesapeake weather. This latest visit we rented the downstairs which was just as spacious and with the same spectacular views. Regardless of either floor, you are provided absolutely everything you would use in your own home. They have shampoo, food/kitchen supplies, entertainment, laundry supplies, canoes, etc. The only thing you need is yourself and a toothbrush! The home is so clean and comfortable. You can see instantaneously upon your arrival that the owner takes pride in his property and ensures his guests feel right at home. The owner, E.B., treats his guests as if you are family. He invited us to his home and was always available to recommend restaurants and attractions. It is hard to find individuals like this today. We also appreciate the fact that we are allowed to bring our Golden Retriever, Mya, who absolutely adores this home, the water, and the entire community! We enjoy the natural beauty and the very courteous community so much here. The convenience of the private beach that is a few steps away from the back door is wonderful. Many evenings were spent on the adirondack chairs under the stars with our feet in the water next to the bonfire. Even if we are not able to spend a week in this home we have decided we would even come just for the night because we enjoy it so much. It is very difficult to find a place you can call a home away from home, but this is most definitely it! E.B. - thank you so much for sharing your treasure with us! It is truly selfless and it is more than apparent you take pride in making your guests happy! Your kindness and generosity will make memories for many families! There is no other place we want to stay!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
