Papakea is a great place to stay, and the oceanfront units (buildings A, F & L) have unbeatable views. We like the location and the grounds are impeccably maintained. We have stayed in two different 'Building A' 1-bedroom units, and this unit was far inferior to the first one. NEGATIVES: The bed was really hard, the blanket was 2 sizes too small, and there were no down pillows. (I did not have one good night's sleep out of 7 nights.) The kitchen was really disappointing and not very well stocked. (We were shocked the first morning when there was no salt and pepper for our scrambled eggs!) The cabinets were old, dirty and smelly, and the refrigerator was rusted (with no ice maker as advertised). There is no lighting above or near the table, which makes activities at night a challenge. Also, the air conditioner is in need of repair. We were here in January, and for the most part did not really need air conditioning, but on 2 occasions did turn it on in the afternoon for a few hours to no avail. POSITIVES: The water pressure was excellent in the shower. The outdoor furniture is very nice, and the lanai is fabulous. TIPS: The deli across the street (Okazuya) has great food; we got take-out 3 times and ate on the lanai. Bring your binoculars during whale season (Dec. through April). They are spectacular!!
Owner response:As of August this unit has been updated - new paint/Flat screen TV - the view is to die for and the rate is the best.
