A friend and I stayed just for a weekend and had a great time. The Little Red Boathouse is located right in the middle of everything that we wanted to do. We spent a day in Leland, a day in Traverse City, and a day at Sleeping Bear Dunes. Everything was within a 25 mile radious and was easily accessible. Thank you for giving us the opportunity of staying at this cute little spot of beauty.
Owner response:Thank you for staying at the Little Red Boathouse and I'm so happy you and your friend enjoyed Leelanau. I hope you will be able to come back in the future for a longer visit, because there is so much exploring to do in Leelanau County. Fondly, Cheri

We loved staying at the Little Red Boat House. We sat outside looking out at the lake, enjoying the cool breeze. The full kitchen was nice but, we grilled our dinners outside on the grill that was provided. We enjoyed the firepit every evening as well. The location was perfect we were close enough to Traverse City that we could go in for the film festival. We went to the public beach in Glen Haven for rock hunting. Ate at the famous Art's in Glen Arbor. And wine tasting at the many wineries...and unlike California most did not charge for the tastings. We couldn't have asked for a better location. We will stay the "Little Red Boat House" in the future.

The Little Red Boathouse was a wonderful place to spend one of the hottest weeks of the summer. Although the back and front yards are not very large for small children, there is ample play space along the sides of the cottage and on the deck. The kitchen had everything we needed to make every meal we brought from home. The lake was fairly sandy, but with some weeds, so we opted to take the 2-3 mile drive to Lake Michigan for most of our swimming. Upon arrival, the cottage was extremely clean and welcoming. You are within walking distance to a very quaint grocery store and produce stand, so that was very fun to visit daily. We explored all the towns surrounding the area and easily came back for nap times and were close enough to explore again in the afternoon. We will very likely return to make many more family memories in Leelanau County.

We can't say enough about how much we enjoy our yearly vacation at the Little Red Boat House. This is at least the fifth year we've spent a week in July enjoying the beautiful property and surroundings. I am so glad that I found this listing on-line and we couldn't be happier. The boat house is comfortable, enchanting, very well equiped and extremely private. The lake is beautiful and this year we sat with our early morning coffee on the deck and watched a Loon feed and groom. The sunsets are absolutely gorgeous! We would highly recommend this property to anyone. Jim and Teresa

We packed a lot of bonding, laughter, stories and general good cheer in under 700 square foot of cottage. This was a perfect long weekend before the start of a busy fall for our family. Best wishes

We really enjoyed our stay at your cottage . It was exactly like the pictures on the website! No surprises, very relaxing. Bob, my husband caught a few small bass- he was happy. The futon mattress was very comfortable. My mom and dad totally like their weekend and said they could come back again! The cottage is very well equipped. We spent days wondering the small towns- nights on the back deck or by the fire pit, playing games at the table and having fun. Thanks for sharing your Little Red Boathouse with us.

My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful time coming up north to your cottage. It was so nice to have a bottle of wine under the stars on the deck! So peaceful and quiet! Very bittersweet for us to leave. Need to go home to Ft Wayne, IN and see our 4 kids. We miss, will not forget the beautiful sunsets! Thanks

Grandma and Grandpa and daughter #4 and 7 year old granddaughter, Madelyn are very grateful to have been allowed to occupy your Little Red Boathouse for a few days. It's fun to get away from a big city Indianapolis and be able to leave windows open at night feel safe on the deck until the wee hours and sit alone at the beach by the Maritime Museum after the sun sets. We felt quite at home in the little cottage by the side of the road. Alice Thank you for sharing your cottage with us, my favorit part of it was the bunk beds Madelyn I'm Grandpa, along for the ride to Northern Michigan which we have done for the past 5 years. It has been a nice stay here at the Little Red Boathouse. Very comfortable and relaxing. Went for a walk in the Lake yesterday and sat uner the stars last evening. Enjoyed our stay at your away from home facilities Dick What a perfect 'home away from home' for Grandma, Grandpa, Madelyn and Susan. I think this is our favorite spot in the five years we've been coming up North together. Visited Leland, Northport, Suttons Bay, Glen Arbor and Glen Haven, and loved coming back to the Little Red Boathouse to work a jigsaw puzzle, play games and relax by the lake at night. Beautiful stars Susan

We had a great weekend-even lucked out with the upper 70's and sunny all 3 days. Enjoyed all the area has to offer and balanced time between sightseeing and the cabin/ campfire, peacefulness. We normally rent a home for 2-3 weeks each year on Isle of Kauai, Hawaii and the Red Boathouse would be great there! Thanks for a great time!

This was our (mine) first trip to upper Michigan. Chris is from Chicago and spent summers at her grandparents lake house in Minnesota so she is well familiar with all the delights of a cool and quiet peaceful stay on a lake. We had a wonderful time enjoying your house very much and have a great time cooking out, eating cherries, drinking wine, and sightseeing. It sure is a refreshing change from Virginia, which right about now is sweltering and humid. What a novelty not needing A/C in July! We'll be back next summer. PS thanks for the honey!

For two weeks we've enjoyed the lake, the area and this lovely deck. The biggest surprise to me was the variety of birds that visited us everyday- hummingbirds ( we kept flowers on the deck for them) gold finches and a loon, kingfishers and even a green heron and ducks of course. It was great fun.

This was a perfect cottage for our family of three. We loved it-great location, great 'little lake' (although in Indiana it would be considered HUGE) can't imagine anything better! 3 nights was way too short. Ann and Frank This was awesome!! I like the volleyball net in the water. Betsy

We're enjoyed a lovely week on Little Traverse Lake. Our first baby is due in October , so this has been an ideal time to get away by ourselves before all the big changes come. The Leelanau Peninsula is magically beautiful! We are from upstate New York and Montgomery Al (respectfully) and now live in Columbus OH- both of our first time in Northern Michigan and we are thoroughly charmed. a few highlights of the week: hiking in the Sleeping Bear Dunes /gorgeous Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive and many other hikes. Canoeing on the Little Platte River. Watching the sunset at Good Harbor. The friendly Tavern in Empire (Joe's Tavern) fantastic veggie burger and good root beer. A day in Traverse City, drove out to the end of Old Mission Peninsula, stunning and beautiful beach near the lighthouse. Amazing cherry milkshake at Dan's Drive In on MI 31/72 Went to a play at Interlochen ( A Mid Summer Dream) very nice performance. Whitefish sandwiches at the Bluebird in Leland- delicious! Coffee in the morning on the deck of the cabin...so many birds to listen to! All perfectly summery and relaxing. This was a cozy home base - love that you can watch the sun come up and set for the deck. Thanks, Randy and Cheri! We really enjoyed ourselves. PS the wireless was very nice to use here! good idea.

We had a terrific time! Hope to stay at the Little Red Boathouse again. We had so much fun with our 3 & 5 year old playing in the water, that we choose to give up our golf dates and play & bond with them instead. Sad to be leaving this magical place. Kids too! Thank you so much.

Deb This little place is great!, so cute. I loved sitting on the deck watching that lake. I can't wait to come back. Missy This was the most wonderful time ever had. We have had a wonderful few days staying at the Little Red Boathouse. The weather has been beautiful and the colors are breathtaking. We ate at the Bluebird in Leland which was excellent. We all went to the casino which was a first for us all and luckily we still have enough money to pay for our accommodations. We attempted the 'Dune Climb' which was pretty exhausting, but worth the view at the end. All together a wonderful experience for our English friends

We had a wonderful time on our trip to the Leelanau Peninsula! Rented bikes in Glen Arbor and rode to the Sleeping Bear Dunes/ Glen Haven and back. Sailed on the Manitou Tall Ship near Traverse City. Visited 8 wineries and took home many whites, reds and even a delicious 'ice wine' to celebrate with in the future. We even took the row boat out for a Sunday meditation (tried to ignore the squeaks of the oars!) It was quite a full 3 days we had here and loved the solitude of our little cabin when we needed it. It was truly a 2nd honeymoon for us (married on 6/24/06) about 10 weeks ago! We'll never forget it. GO HOOSIERS!

The end of our four day visit has come and we had a last swim off the dock with a bike ride around the lake to follow. We enjoyed the Red Boat House immensely. The breezes kept us comfortable. Rowing was fun especially for Peter. We played many games of cribbage on the deck. We love our visit's North. Thank you

We were very grateful to have found the Little Red Boathouse on short notice after having spent three days/nights being waterlogged from torrential downpours further up north on Leelanau This is a lovely cottage...our first night we 'dried out' had really great pizza @ Pegtown Station (maple city) and played progressive rummy until we dropped. It was 96 on Friday we spent most of the day in Little Traverse Lake hunting for buried treasure and following crayfish trails. Finished our P. Rummy marathon, thought about a fire- too hot & guest what it rained. We didn't get wet this time. Jan & Bill this place has been a lifesaver. I like camping and all, but it got a little too wet for my liking. Swimming in the lake was a lot of fun and it was a lot warmer than Lake Michigan. We played cards a lot and ate a bunch of cherries. Just having a comfy bed and couch and shower : ) to lay on was enough for me Lauren. The couch is very comfortable and the table worked well for cards. It's great on the lake. It's the best!! Noah We all really enjoyed the Little Red Boathouse.

Phew! I'm tired just reading about the great adventures of previous guest! What fun. Met our good friends Mike & Beth at the cottage on Saturday. They got here before we did, so they already had their toes in the water and a cool beverage in hand when we showed up with the key. Spent the rest of the afternoon sitting on the dock and reliving the good times. At dusk we built a fire and grilled salmon for dinner. Was fabulous with some of the local wine. Lazed around on Sunday until it was time for the picnic @ Mawby, Had incredible food and sparkling wine in a beautiful setting. Bonfire that night. So peaceful- seems like nobody is around. North Port and Sutton Bay Monday, exploring, shopping and thankful for gorgeous weather. Perfect weekend. Thank you!

We had a nice time in this cozy little cabin. Rick and Lois came to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Mike and Dorey came to relax : ) We arrived Friday and went hunting for Petosky stones by Shalda Creek, the guys went in the lake and actually found some, brrrr Saturday morning we took an early morning bike ride around the Little Traverse Lake. It was cool but perfect. The sun was shining on the trees and the colors were glorious. We browsed the shops in Glen Arbor and while Dorey and Lois took a break at the cabin the guys hiked the dunes. Sunday morning we took another bike ride up Sugar Loaf Mt Road Whew! no heart attacks- thank God. The view was amazing and the ride down was a breeze-literally. Were on our way home today felling refreshed and energized.

We have enjoyed many stays in this area, usually at South Beach (Homestead) However we truly enjoyed this cottage. The lake is so calm and relaxing. We brought along our 11 year old grand-daughter and her friend. In their opinion this place "rocks" They fished and kayaked the weekend away. I just enjoyed the relaxation and the star filled nights on the deck. We are returning home truly refreshed.
