Le Petit Reve, our pied a terre, is truly our dream come true--a comfortable, modern apartment lovingly furnished to harmonize with the Provencal location, yet provide convenience and affordability.

Lourmarin has great cafes, tea rooms and restaurants, but there's a small well-equipped kitchen in the apartment with an open plan that has enough space to prepare your own food--if you want to! In the living-dining room, there's a sliding door to a small terrace where you can dine al fresco on warm days. The bedroom has lots of storage space and hooks for your clothes--after all, we live here, too! Little things mean a lot to us; for instance, there is a night-table and lamp at each side of the bed. And the bathroom is large and modern with a full-size tub, shower, sink/vanity and towel warmer. The toilet is in a separate room, "Le Petit Coin".

There are lots of wonderful books in both English and French and CDs to enjoy in your free time (if you have any); and a large collection of foreign movies (French and Italian) with English subtitles, plus several American movies as well.
(There's also a TV for viewing French programs).

We have a computer in the apartment so you can access your email or surf the net if you like; and we have added a land line that can be used at no charge for local calls and for long distance calls to the US, Canada and most other European countries.

Parking is on level ground and right near our building. There are supermarkets and discount stores out of town, but you don't actually have to leave town to find whatever you might need. Two grocery stores and a great bakery are a very short walk away. You'll find a tea room, several specialty shops and pharmacy right in the square around the corner from our building, as well as Lourmarin's tourist office.

We are an American couple living in Upstate New York--when we're not in Lourmarin. Originally from New York City, we moved to "the country" in 1971, to a farmhouse where we could enjoy a flower and vegetable garden, rural scenery and fresh air. Not content to stay put, though, we have traveled to Europe as much as we could afford over the past 45 years, especially to Italy and France.

When we discovered Lourmarin a few years ago, we knew we had to come back again and again. This part of France had the added plus of having an Italian flavor--literally and figuratively. Don't forget--olive oil is better for your health than butter!

If visiting France only means "Paris" to you, you should really check out this part of the country. Lourmarin, in particular, is friendly and receptive to tourists. It has its own restored chateau, often sponsoring wonderful concerts and special events. There are several excellent art galleries and boutiques--and gourmet restaurants. It also has one of the best outdoor markets in all of Provence. It will take you exactly one minute to get to this market, which happens year round, every Friday.

From our apartment you can also easily walk to your choice of beautiful country roads to admire the olive trees, cherry orchards and vineyards. There are also dozens of lovely little villages to discover that are 10 minutes to a half hour away by car.

But again, we think Lourmarin is exceptionally attractive and easy to negotiate, and the best village in Provence! Indeed, it has been designated one of the most beautiful villages in France. Albert Camus loved it too. (He and his wife are buried in the local cemetery).

We took the plunge and bought this apartment in the summer of 2006. It's primarily for us, but we would be glad to share it with others who would appreciate the experience of living in France!

In Le Petit Reve, you'll find our Welcome Handbook, containing comprehensive information on the apartment and the surrounding area ,along with a copy of "Provence Byways" and many other guidebooks. In addition, the Lourmarin Tourist Office is one minute from the apartment. We have an English-speaking property manager who lives right in town, and is available to help you if you need additional assistance.

In November 2009, travel writers James Martin and Martha Bakerjian spent a week in our apartment. To find the blog, detailing seven days of adventures in our part of the world, click on the second link below labeled "A Week in Provence by James Martin".

Why the Owner Chose Lourmarin

We discovered Lourmarin in the fall of 2005, on our first visit to Provence. We spent a week exploring the village, as well as many nearby towns and cities. Although we were enchanted by the whole region, we felt Lourmarin was the most liveable, accessible and charming village of them all! It was love at first sight, and we continue to feel that way, every time we return.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment

Our apartment is close to everything in town, yet so quiet we sometimes find it hard to believe that there are other people living nearby! We really appreciate the convenience of having an elevator, especially when we have luggage or groceries to bring upstairs. On Fridays, what a thrill it is to scoop up our shopping basket, ride downstairs, go around the back of the building, and voila! one of the best markets anywhere around. And we love the tea room right in the building that serves wonderful assiettes for lunch, or delicious desserts in the afternoon. There's a grocery store in our square, a wine shop, a pharmacy, and some of the best boutiques in town.
If we choose to walk in the other direction, we're out in the country in one minute. And it's great to be able to relax at the end of the day, either choosing to walk over to one of the great restaurants in town, or eating in the apartment. (No worries about driving under the influence of the terrific local wine!)

Place Henri Barthelemy

Here you can find a pharmacy, tourist office, wine store, tea room, grocery, boutiques and on Fridays, one of the best outdoor markets in Provence!

A Week at Le Petit Reve

Guest: Kay and Jeff (Endicott, NY & Lourmarin, France)
Date of Stay: 10/08/10 Review Submitted: 10/19/11

Dear Judith and Burt, We had a great week in Lourmarin staying at your wonderful apartment. We enjoyed ourselves very much. What a beautiful part of France Provence is! We can understand why you like it so much here. This is what we did during our stay: Saturday: Arrived at 4:00 p.m. Walked around the town. The mistral was blowing! Visited some art galleries and the Chateau which was having an art opening. Ate dinner at Pizzeria Nonni. Sat next to a French couple who live in Curcuron. They invited us to their house Tuesday for an aperitif. Sunday: Mistral still blowing. Drove to Arles through beautiful countryside. There was a bullfight that day so many people going to it. Very festive, music and people dressed in velvet jackets and hats. Ate a picnic lunch in a park. Then visited Les Baux. Monday: Had an omelet at Cafe Gaby for breakfast. Drove to Bonnieux. Hiked to LaCoste and back on paths through vineyards and countryside. Beautiful! Went to dinner at L'Insolite in Lourmarin. Jeff had a hamburger and french fries, hit the spot. Tuesday: Visited Vaugines, Curcuron and Ansouis. Walked around, took lots of pictures. Went the the French couple's house at 6:00 for aperitif. They had prepared hors d'oeuvres and we sat outside and ate and drank in their backyard. Could see Montagne Sainte-Victoire from there. Was a highlight of our trip. Wednesday: Went to Buoux. Ate lunch at Auberge de la Loube. Was great. Did some drawing and painting behind the Chateau in the afternoon. Thursday: Drove to Aix and walked around the city--found it to be very beautiful. Visited Cezanne's studio. Then drove to Cassis, had a late lunch and went to the beach and waded in the Mediterranean. Got back after dark--got lost a few times. Friday: Went to the Friday market. Bought two tablecloths and also food for a picnic, tapenade, bread, cheese, chicken, tomatoes, grapes. Had a picnic outside near the Chateau. Drew and painted in the afternoon. Dinner at Pizzeria Nonni. Thank you so much!

Dreamiest Week

We are so happy to have chosen Lourmarin as our home base. We were able to make day trips to bigger cities including Avignon, Arles, and Aix en Provence but at the end of the day it was nice to leave the bustling atmosphere and return to our oasis in Lourmarin. The little village has so much charm and there's just enough of everything. One really great boulangerie (bread store), wine store, and quite a few restaurants. We frequented each place a few times and felt like we were getting to be locals - which is really the greatest feeling you can get in your travels. I recommend this as a base for exploring gorgeous smaller towns (our fave St. Remy de Provence, Gordes) and the bigger more famous ones. Perfect week!

Lovely little apartment in a very polished village

A lovely little apartment, conveniently situated at the northern end of the village, with car parking right opposite. Wonderfully stocked bookshelves - novels, guidebooks, French-language books - computer, dvd player, etc: all very well appointed for the relatively low price. And a wonderfully helpful visitors' guide that tells you all you need to know about the apartment, and the village.

This was a wonderful place for me

Guest: Patrick (New Have, CT)
Date of Stay: 05/30/11 Review Submitted: 06/29/11

The town is beautiful, of course--one of the most beautiful I've been to--and as a vacation spot, it's ideal. Great restaurants, produce, wine, fig mustard, market, et al. But the apartment is lovely too--roomy, pretty, great balcony, kitchen set, bedroom, and view. Didn't have a car, didn't matter. I made a great ratatouille, and there's a wonderful pottery store, and all the other positive adjectives I can use about everything else. I loved this place.

Lourmarin!

Guest: Babs (New York, NY)
Date of Stay: 05/30/11 Review Submitted: 06/26/11

Le Petit Reve is one of the most special places that I have ever stayed. Nestled in the heart of Lourmarin, in the Luberon/Provence region, the apartment is well located and incredibly comfortable. I applaud the owners' thoughtful consideration of every detail (guidebooks, maps, cooking equipment) and assure any future visitors that all of their needs will be met! The apartment is clean, beautifully decorated, and cozy. The apartment's kitchen is well equipped for cooking and I encourage all visitors to explore the famous Friday market that is just outside of the apartment's doorstep. Lourmarin's sites are absolutely worth a visit and are all in close walking distance. One can visit Chateau Fontvert, a local organic winery, by walking down Provence's famed green paths and also Lourmarin's historic Chateau; each site is only a five minute walk from the apartment. The apartment is across the street from the tourist's office and close to many wonderful restaurants, bakeries, and shops. Lourmarin hosts a lively restaurant and concert scene and is the ideal travel destination in Provence.

Owner response:We are delighted you enjoyed your stay so much, and we're glad you fell in love with Lourmarin as we have. Knowing that you chose not to rent a car when you visited, it shows how much there is to do, even if you don't travel to any other towns! Thanks!

Wonderful apartment in a beautiful old town

Guest: Josh (NYC, NY)
Date of Stay: 08/15/10 Review Submitted: 01/01/11

We stayed at Le Petit Reve for a week in August and loved our stay. The apartment is clean, well-maintained and well furnished with everything you need, and includes very helpful binders with great tips for things to do and see in the area. The apartment is in a fantastic location right outside the old town section of Lourmarin, within easy walking distance to everything (including some great restaurants and bakeries), and around the corner from an amazing weekly market that takes over the town. We had a great time and heartily recommend Le Petit Reve for anyone staying in the Luberon/Provence.

Highlight of 2010

Guest: Dorothee (Woodstock, NY)
Date of Stay: 08/15/10 Review Submitted: 01/01/11

Our week in Lourmarin is clearly on top of the list! This is a great, well equipped little apartment in a central location of this beautiful village. From here we were able to explore the surrounding areas near and far. By foot we visited the winery and the cemetery along the way, played minigolf or had a lovely picnic near the castle. By bike ( rentals from the near by hotel ) we discovered the tranquility of the village square in Cucuron, took a swim in a turquoise lake ( Etang de la Bonde) and saw the Luberon landscape from a new perspective. By car we were able to visit the market and beach in Cassis, watched the sun set at Pont Du Gare, had lunch in Avignon and ice cream in Aix, and visited the wineries along the way. An absolute must is the Friday market in Lourmarin, just steps away from the apartment you will find the most amazing provencale delicacies, soaps, and handmade goods. A feast for all the senses! We could have easily stayed another week. Thanks Judy and Burt!

Exactly as described--charming, comfortable, and oh, so, convenient!

Guest: Tom and Cheryl (Naples, Florida)
Date of Stay: 09/18/10 Review Submitted: 01/01/11

Le Petit Reve is exactly as the name implies--a small apartment, very comfortable for 2 people, that is equipped with everything one needs and conveniently located in Lourmarin, the charming village in Le Luberon area that is in one's dreams. The apartment is located on the main square of Lourmarin where the large outdoor market takes place every Friday. One can walk to tennis courts and drive to golf courses for sports activities. There is a small grocery right on the square, but a car is necessary for the 10 minute drive to the larger grocery/gas station and other nearby villages. The apartment's library of travel guides, books, music, and movies is quite extensive. Providing a laptop with internet connection is really handy. The owners love the area and their apartment and are very accessible and helpful with answers to any questions. It was a dream come true for us!

Exceeded our expectations!

Guest: Karen O. (Savannah, GA)
Date of Stay: 07/31/10 Review Submitted: 08/16/10

My husband and I stayed at this lovely apartment in the heart of Provence as part of a 7-week European tour and this was, by far, our favorite accommodations for the entire trip! It is conveniently located in a lovely village with plenty to do and see in the town, as well as in the surrounding countryside. Not only is it very completely and comfortably furnished with quality amenities and equipment throughout, but the owners' collection of books, guides, maps and references on the area specifically and France in general made it so easy to plan each day's activities. And the fact that they had a laptop computer for guests' use, high speed wireless Internet and free long-distance phone service back to the U.S. and Canada made it very convenient for us to keep track of our businesses back home. We'll definitely be back and will recommend it to all our friends!
