Very Cute Cottage, 2 bedroom, 1 bath, Located in Mayville NY. 2 miles from the Chautauqua Institution. Walk to 4 nice Restaurants, 100 yards to the Chautauqua Marina. Two miles from the Chautauqua Institute.
We are located 100 yards off the lake on a canal. Small/medium boats with low clearance can go beneath the bridge out to the lake.

- No Pets Allowed : Because we have had problems with even the most "well-behaved" dogs, we have had to go to strictly no pets. Sorry for the inconvenience, but we have found that one or two irresponsible owners have made it unpleasant for others and we simply cannot have our guests impacted.

Cottage needs complete overall

We stayed in this rental from 8/13 to 8/20/2011. Upon arrival it was necessary to wash all dishes and utensils due to a greasy film. The oven was broke and informing the owner of the situation resulted in no resolution. The freezer in the refrigerator needed defrosting; the frost was inches thick and caused the extra weight to sag almost as if it would break off. There was dust and cobwebs everywhere that suggested a thorough cleaning hadn't been done in this season. There were no garbage cans for the garbage. Cupboards and drawers were filled with broken appliances and shop tools filled the drawers. A spider strolled out of the cupboard when it was first opened. We rent from VRBO regularly and have never rented a sub standard cottage like this.
Owner response:We absolutely dispute this renter's review. This renter called me at 10:00 pm to inquire about this cottage before she booked it. She kept me on the phone for a half an hour complaining about the prior cottages she had rented and said she had many problems with cleanliness in others. She also asked numerous questions that were clearly already answered on the listing. In addition, my listing asks that we get no phone calls after 8:30pm. I almost did not rent to her because I had a gut feeling she would not be happy. I specifically warned my cleaners and they made sure it was very clean before she arrived. There is a junk drawer in the kitchen...it has batteries and misc. tools. It is a summer cottage...there are going to be spiders occasionally. The freezer was off all winter and was thawed before we started renting in June. We book solid all summer and the cleaners have four hours on Saturday, which they use to do the turnaround. It is entirely possible that they didn't have time to thaw the freezer between rental, but this is the ONLY renter who complained all summer. We have a lovely little cottage and we take pride in sharing it with others during the season. While it is absolutely true the OVEN did not work, we had rented for eight weeks and no one said a word about the oven not working. When they called, we sent someone over immediately to check it. Unfortunately, we had to order parts for it and simply did not have time to repair it before they left. The gas stovetop did work. As for dishes, our rental agreement states that guests are to do their own dishes. Our cleaning staff does not check the dishes in the cabinets, but again, we have had no complaints at all and I check with guests when they leave. I have emails from several guests, including the ones immediately before this one, who praised both the cottage decor, its cleanliness and comfort. I am disappointed that we had one difficult guest all summer who has decided to write such a misleading review.
