Happy Nook is a truly unique New England style coastal cottage, idyllically set on the 275 feet of private waterfront grounds near the historic town of Bath.

This picturesque home is nestled amongst pine trees and landscaped gardens with breathtaking westerly views over New Meadows Cove just moments from the ocean. Happy Nook has its own private deep water dock and mooring so you can explore the wonderful surrounding water ways right from your doorstep or fish for striped bass or swim off the dock.

The House
The main house has been beautifully decorated by London based interior designer Pauline Spearpoint (as featured in Interior sud and RIBA magazines). Pauline’s home has been furnished in an eclectic New England coastal style with charming items collected from local antique dealers giving it a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. The house offers a great lay out with unobstructed water views from most of the rooms. There is more than enough space for two families to live together in harmony. Happy Nook is equipped to a high standard in order to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible.

Guest Cottage
In the same classic New England coastal style is the guest cottage complete with TV room, 1 bedroom with large four poster bed and en-suite shower room.

Please be aware that the house is really not safe for under 5 years old and very close to the water.

The private water front grounds offer ample space for outdoor games and have plenty of secluded nooks for reading a book or taking a nap. The outdoor seating and dining area with westerly views across the water is an ideal place for taking in the sunset and watching the boats come home. Happy Nook has been landscaped and maintained to highlight the natural beauty of the land.

My Mom, sister and I enjoyed a wonderful week (actually we stayed eight nights) in the beginning of October. Living in Charleston, South Carolina we wanted to visit Maine and see the beautiful changing leaves. We were not disappointed!! Happy Nook is the perfect Maine cottage decorated impeccably. The pictures don’t do it justice. It is warm and inviting and sits only a few feet away from the water. The outside has a beautiful stone terrace with plenty of comfortable seating. There is even a hammock that is covered so one can spend lazy days during the summer reading yet protected from the elements. At the time we visited there were only a few flowers, but in the spring and summer it must be magnificent. It is truly an English garden. Did I mention the perfect location? Happy Nook is nestled back, so that unless someone is specifically coming to visit, it is a quiet, secluded location. We walked every morning through the forest and enjoyed the beauty of nature. David and his wife Robin take care of the grounds, and he said that this is what a true Maine cottage looks like. David and Diana were so helpful during our stay answering any questions--true Maine hospitality (thanks again Diana for the delicious shrimp). We drove over a thousand miles during our visit seeing small towns, lighthouses, a day trip to Acadia National Park--we got a true taste of what Maine is like. The only regret was that the time flew by so fast we could not believe that our trip was over in a blink of an eye. My Mom who took my sister and me on this wonderful trip just turned 93 a couple of weeks ago (October 26th). She loved every aspect of Happy Nook and Maine and if we come back to Maine we will DEFINITELY return to Happy Nook--it felt like home. Thank you again, Pauline, for sharing your beautiful home and making our visit so special.

My parents, sister, daughter and myself had a lovely fall visit at Happy Nook. Even in the rain we had a wonderful time, the cottage was warm and enviting with the gas stove in the living room. We cooked most of our meals and enjoyed all the seafood available. The fall colors were visible right out the front window. We did some local touring and enjoyed lobster rolls in several different places. We walked every day down the Happy Nook lane. We also loved exploring the many quaint small towns around the area. My daughter wants us to come back in May so she can return to her happy place. My daughter is a student at Bates College and loved having a break whcih she really needed. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.

If you want to vacation where the land meets the sea, at the end of a secluded road with your own dock jutting into the cove, a beautifully appointed cottage with a spotless guesthouse surrounding a flagstone patio overlooking the water, then look no further than Happy Nook Cottage! The cottage and guesthouse are perfectly maintained and abundantly equiped with kitchen utensils and dishware, games, area guides and maps plus the owner's recommendations as to shopping and eating in the Bath/Brunswick area. The Spearpoints are a charming, welcoming couple who were actively engaged in making our vacation one of the best we've had in years. The description of the property on the internet, while accurate, can't describe the peacefulness or serenity of the actual home, yet you're less than 15 minutes from the restaurants and shops in Bath. Not only would I recommend Happy Nook as a very special vacation spot, we would not stay elsewhere in Mid-Coast Maine. We're coming back as soon as we can!

Happy Nook was wonderful. We have stayed in the summer and again in the fall. Both visits were very relaxing. It is a beautiful setting and it served us well. I especially enjoyed the living room with the gas log stove, lots of stories and games were shared on the rainy days. It is so secluded and private and the view is amazing. We loved it!

My husband and I recently vacationed with family there. Loved, Loved, Loved Happy Nook. Beautiful spot for a fall getaway. Quiet and peaceful overlooking the water. The elegantly rustic cottage was clean and had all the comforts of home. Close enough to small towns for day trips and restaurants, or all the appliances to also cook in. Would definelty go back.

We spent Columbus Day weekend (and more) at this Bath, Maine cottage. It is really 2 cottages - one of them has 2 bedrooms and 1 full bath. The other "guest" cottage has 1 bedroom and a full bath (shower). Our 6 adult children came & went for a week. It was perfect especially with adult kids as we could give them their space & privacy but meet up in the kitchen & cozy living room. The master bedroom has a beautiful picture window facing the cove & it was hard to leave that spot every morning! However, there are numerous other places to hang out - a hammock, several "nooks" with Adirondack chairs, a barbecue grill & table, etc. It is comfy, cozy but not fancy. The price is great & appropriate. Could be a little cleaner...but that would be only complaint & easily remedied. We had a wonderful vacation & would highly recommend this cottage to others!

My husband and I spent three weeks at the cottage, very happily based at this pretty and comfortable retreat. It is thoughtfully and tastefully decorated, but casual enough so that no one need worry about the surroundings. The grounds are lovely, the site quite private, though we were perfectly located for frequent trips to Portland and points north. We loved it! Our guests loved it! What more can we say?

I want to thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. The time and attention that has gone into making this beautiful cottage a home is evident at every turn. The house is set in an absolutely marvelous spot with wonderful views of the water. We were fortunate to have a small sailboat with us which we were able to tie up at the home's dock without difficulty. The guest cottage is particularly charming and works well for an extended family situation.

I am remiss for not writing sooner as I promised...we stayed at Happy Nook last June 2010. We were two couples and the cottage could not have been better. The owner is delightful and the cottage is picture perfect. With one couple in the main cottage and the other in the guest cottage we had a great week... plenty of togetherness and plenty of privacy. A typical day: met for morning coffee on the patio enjoying the lobstermen, the water, the flowers and nature as we planned our day. In the afternoons it was back to patio for cocktails, plan dinner and then again, privacy for the evening as we retreated to our respective "homes". A great location and property for anyone, but especially two couples or several friends. A perfect mix, a breathtaking piece of property, a lovely and comfortable cottage, a terrific owner and just a great experience. If you are thinking about Happy Nook...don't hesitate...book it now! Seriously.

Owner response: What a surprise! Thank you for taking the time to review Happy Nook after such a long time. Sounds like you really had a fantastic experience which is what we hope everyone has at Happy Nook. In particularly we enjoyed reading the bit about the delightful owner! We do try..... Hope to welcome you, your family and friends back to Happy Nook this year. Just drop us a line...Kind regards Robert and Pauline

Happy Nook - a delightful place in a wonderful setting which we were able to enjoy in the sunshine at the peak of autumn colours in Maine. The house and cottage are beautifully furnished with immaculate taste reflecting the local style but in a very contemporary way and with some lovely local antiques - stylish and homely, very relaxing. The location in the woods and on the waterfront is fantastic, we enjoyed the views of the water reflecting the autumn leaves, the sunsets over the jetty, exploring the river and its inlets by kayak, relaxing in the garden and long walks along the wonderful beaches nearby. We loved it and hope to return!
