As you enter through the Lanai, you will know you made the right choice for your perfect vacation accommodations. The living area has ample seating for all our guests. Our gourmet kitchen is fully equipped for your convenience. With the luxury of both ceiling fans and air conditioning, the rooms are quite comfortable no matter what the temperature is outside. The bedrooms are furnished with comfort in mind and include plenty of space for you to make yourself at home. Just a short walk across the street you will find a secluded black sand beach, and minutes down the road are miles of white sandy beaches. After a long day of beach and exploring the island, nothing feels better than a dip in our private jacuzzi, relax and enjoy! We've provided a laundry room well equiped with anything you may need during your stay. With all this and endless choices for activities near by you will find the West side of Kauai to be the destination of choice. We hope you enjoy your stay as our guest.

As long time residents of Kauai, David and Rose originally built Hale Makai for family members visiting the island. In 2007 they decided to share the comfort and privacy of this quaint cottage with travelers as well.

I stayed here for 6 nights with my two young children, ages 4 & 6. It was important for us that we could stay in a place a lot like our home while we were on vacation. We took full advantage of the hottub, and the proximity to the black sand beach and white sand beach was a benefit as well. Having the washer/dryer, clotheslines, brooms, & vacuum made it more pleasant to come home from the beach every day! We also needed to clean up well after the trip to Waimea Canyon! Red dirt seems dirtier than our Illinois dirt. The house was more than fully equipped! The climate control was perfect; I also appreciated the satellite TV, theatre surround sound, and wifi internet. Note that there is more vegetation grown since these pictures were taken... so the place has more privacy than you expect from the pictures. My favorite characteristic was the lanai. I spent time there on my laptop while the children played in the hottub. I appreciated Kauai for the farm-like environment with less tourist activity than could be expected at the other islands. We left each day to embark on some Hawaii excursions, always east. The drive east was always pleasant, but driving "home" was a very good part of our days there.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We rented 2 houses in Kekaha and every member of our trip wanted to stay at this property (versus a large beachfront house!). The house was modern, clean, equipped with every needed amenity and had VERY comfortable bedding. The hot tub made for a perfect ending to adventurous trips around the island. I wish every rented vacation property was this nice!

This is an amazing home! Even better in person than in the pictures. Great location, great private beaches just across the street. Grocery stores and restaurants very close too. You will love this place and feel right at home!
