The Bearcub Chalet, built in 2001, is a beautiful 3 bedroom, 4 bathroom "A-frame" mountain home with large recreation room, loft and redwood deck with spa. Situated on a hillside in the midst of tall pines at Blue Lake Springs resort in Arnold (elevation 4000 feet) near Calaveras Big Trees State Park, it is easily accessible by a level driveway even in snow.
The resort's facilities at Snowflake Lodge, which is a two-minute walk from the chalet, include tennis, basketball and volleyball courts. During the summer the pool, snack bar and a lake with a sandy beach are open for a small daily fee.
Outdoor movies and children's supervised arts and crafts programs are available from May to September. On weekends all year round the restaurant offers excellent dining open exclusively to residents and renters of the community. Reservations advised.
We offer special rates in the Fall for concerts at Ironstone Vineyards and fall harvest season. The cabin is only 20 minutes from Murphy's, which now boasts 10 or more tasting rooms for the many wonderful local wineries.
Day use passes are available at Kline's Health Club in Arnold, about a five-minute drive away.
Bear Valley ski resort, 20 miles to the east, is known as a family-friendly, low-key, lower-cost resort, which offers downhill and cross country skiing for all skill levels. Other popular winter activities are sledding, snowshoeing, snowboarding and snowmobiling.
Activities in the surrounding national forests include fishing, hiking among ancient redwoods, mountain biking on established trails, rafting on the Stanislaus river and canoeing on crystalline lakes. Among other attractions of the area are the famous Moaning and Mercer Caverns, historic Gold Rush towns, winery tours, several golf courses, as well as swimming, boating, fishing and water skiing on the New Melones reservoir. |
