Private Big Ole Cabin
If you are looking for a Holiday Inn or Hilton you are looking at the wrong place. I have my own ideas of beautiful when it comes to being outdoors. If you see beauty in narrow, gravel roads, surrounded by huge White Pine and a lake so clear you can actually see 12 feet down to those sunfish near the bottom, then you have found the right place!
I am located in the heart of the Chippewa National Forest, where you can enjoy both beauty and privacy. If you come to relax, fish or hunt, you have found the right spot! If you enjoy sitting around an actual campfire roasting marshmallows, watching an eagle fly over head and listening to the sounds of the loons, this is the place for you.
The cabin is in the pines along the shores of scenic Big Ole Lake. Lost in time, this property once served as a resort for fisherman, hunters and families from across the U.S. and Canada. Now it is a private home where guests can escape the hustle and bustle of every day life and experience the joy of relaxing in their own cabin.
Big Ole Lake is a 167 acre, 63 feet deep lake with no public access for launching your boat. If you want to bring your own boat it is carry in access only. The fishing is abundant, offering walleye, crappie, pan fish, northern & premier small & largemouth bass fishing. Your cabin comes with a fishing boat & your own private dock. You can bring your own motor or rent one from me. You also have use of a paddle boat to explore the lake.
There is a regulation horseshoe pit where you can practice on your game and a sauna to unwind in after a day of fishing, hunting or just enjoying the outdoors.
The cabin offers you a place to relax and watch the lake, play some cribbage or cook your own "Catch of the Day". If you prefer to grill and eat outside, your own Charcoal grill and picnic table sits right out the front door. The tongue and groove vaulted ceiling in the kitchen, dining area and living room are all custom made by me, including the cabinets.
The cabin has two bedrooms, each with a comfortable double bed. If you need more room, the couch makes into a full size bed. There is a composting toilet in the cabin and a Bath House with a hot shower just a couple steps from the cabin. Feel free to take a dip off your own private dock, and enjoy the swimming.
If you have more than 6 people in your group, I have another cabin, with a kitchenette, that sleeps 2 to 3 people. If rented with the Big Ole Cabin it is an additional $200.00 per week.
Only 5 miles down the road is Marcell, population 309, which is the hub of the Edge of the Wilderness National Scenic Byway. A township of 56 square miles, it contains all, or part, of 48 lakes. Tourism is Marcell's biggest industry, but has the look and feel of a small town, peace and quiet in the most natural of settings. Marcell offers a lot for a small town, a well equipped bait & sporting good store, Real Estate Office, antique store, lumber yard, gift shop, several restaurants & taverns, food and gas. |
