Why the Owner Chose Wintergreen
Our house is located on beautiful Blackrock Drive less than one-half mile to the Inn at Wintergreen, where you will find wonderful restaurants and many special events planned by the Inn. You can walk it or take the convenient shuttle bus that runs throughout Wintergreen Resort.
But we are even closer to the slopes, just across the road on Tyro Lane you will find Tyro Trail.
The Unique Benefits of this House
We just keep getting better: we take pride in our home and it shows... newly installed downstairs bath, new hardwood floors throughout first floor, freshly painted rooms, new furniture/beds in two downstairs bedrooms. To us, you're our guests. We try to take care of the little things so that you can enjoy your stay. We have plenty of firewood stacked up at the back door; our gas grill is on the front deck. Closets have plenty of towels, kitchen has all the tools a serious cook would want.
But probably the best deal is our special weekend deal. I don't know about you, but for me, after a day on the slopes, I don't want to have to drive home, sitting in my ski clothes. With our weekend special rate, you can stay as long as you like on the third day (or even stay till the next day!) So, instead of rushing home Sunday, why not take advantage of the third night, and relax by the fire before driving home? You may even decide to leave Monday morning!

Wonderful Leaf-Peeping Home Base

We just returned from a 3-night stay and had a fabulous time. For us, this was a family event, ages 11 mos to 90 yrs old! Everyone was happy! Equipped with everything you can imagine. Kitchen had more equipment than my own house, made meal preparation easy for our group, even for our apple crumble baking and food prep for 8 adults. The baby was thrilled with a closet full of toys, a high chair, and nothing particularly edible or breakable at her height. Nice to have plenty of space for all of us, yet privacy in the bedrooms. The open kitchen-diningroom-livingroom is a great layout for groups or families, attractively decorated, well maintained and very clean. This home was the perfect base for our fall leaf-peeping trip. Close by we picked apples at Dickie's orchard, carved pumpkins, hiked crabtree falls, drove the blue ridge parkway and skyline drive, and found several restaurants in the surrounding towns. For quick groceries/snacks, the blackrock market is within walking distance as is the main inn at Wintergreen and its restaurant. Barbara was extremely helpful in our preparation for our trip, and her emailed info packet has tons of information about the property and surrounding activities. Thumbs Up!

Great Ladies' Getaway

I stayed at this property with 5 of my friends for a ladies' getaway weekend. The house was just perfect for our group. It was a very comfortable and cozy home and was tastefully decorated. The house was exactly as described in the brochure and was very clean and well-maintained. The owner was very helpful and supplied us with detailed information about the Wintergreen resort and surrounding area. The house was conveniently situated to have easy access to the Wintergreen resort activities and restaurants. We played tennis on the indoor courts, golfed at Devil's Knob, at ate at The Edge and Coppermine Bistro - all located within 5 minutes of the house. We also visited several area wineries that were within a 20-minute drive. In the evening, our ladies' groups likes to play a lot of different games. The dining table in the house sat 8 people and it was just perfect for our game nights. Our group does our ladies' getaway at this time every year and we have been to about 5 other locations. Everyone in the group felt this was the best home we have rented and we hope to go back again next year.
Owner response:We're so glad that our renters loved our house.. we do our best to make it a true vacation home!

This was our first vacation at Wintergreen. Out trip was relaxing and peaceful. The mountain house was clean, spacious, and cozy. We had 8 adults and 1 child and had plenty of room. I would highly recommend this house and you can't beat the rates. The home owners were very gracious and helpful. We will be back soon!!

This was our first family vacation to Wintergreen and we had a wonderful time! We were very pleased with the Mountain House accomodations. It was very spacious, clean and warm. The location was central with easy access to the slopes either by the shuttle or by walking. There was a lot of ice during our stay and at one point we thought we would be stuck in the house because we could not get out of the driveway. The next thing we knew there were two men clearing the driveway for us. We didn't even have to call, they just showed up - this was a very nice touch. I would absolutely recommend this house to others. You will not be disappointed!

We recently visited Wintergreen for the first time and were extremely pleased with The Mountain House accomodations and value. The weekend we were there was extremely cold and blustery, but the house was plenty warm and toasty. We enjoyed the fireplace, spacious kitchen and dining areas, and especially appreciated the cleanliness and overall well-kept accomodations. The homey, seasonal decor was an added bonus! The location is very close to the main ski rental facility, about .5 miles. (We could have walked had it not been so cold). We would definitely return and recommend to others!

I agree with all the glowing comments posted by others. The home is very large and well appointed. There's no air conditioning, but even though the temperature was in the lower 90s in valley during our stay, it never rose above 78 F at the house, and there are refreshing ceiling fans everywhere. Although Wintergreen is large, you are never more than 5-10 minutes drive from anywhere. The WiFi worked perfectly and we liked the digital door locks - never had to worry about bringing or losing housekeys. There is no garage, but there is secure a garage-sized storage area adjacent to the driveway where you can store your bikes, skis and other large equipment. The owner is extremely responsive to all inquiries. We would not hesitate to return or recommend this house to others. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Visited this rental on the weekend of March 21st, 2009 and what a great time! The house is great, sleeps 10 easily, five full sized bedrooms, a HUGE kitchen, great grill outside, comfortable family room with fireplace and flat screen tv, great dining area with room for our entire group! Cannot say enough about the property and how great it was! Owners are very hospitable, friendly and easy to reach. All emails or phone calls were promptly returned, and overall made the process much easier on me, a first-timer! Will definitely be back next ski season and looking forward to it!

Dear Barbara and Family, Thank you for such a smooth and helpful rental process. The house was absolutely wonderful -- equiped with everything we could possibly need for our family Thanksgiving dinner and celebration! The furnishings were comfortable, the fireplace (and free wood!) warm and inviting, the views gorgeous, and your directions and recommendations perfect. We've stayed in several vacation homes, and this one was by far tops! We also appreciated your flexibility with our dates, and the extra effort to have the heat and hot water ready upon our arrival. We'll always have great memories of our family putting together puzzles at the large table, toasting by the fireplace, and watching old movies on the big TV. Thanks again, and we hope to come back to the Mountain House soon! Regards, Gayle Dillon and Family

This is truly a wonderful place to "get away from it all" and enjoy some quiet solitude with your family. It seems too good to be true, but for once what you see IS what you get and it is perfect. Don't hesitate to believe this one! We are so grateful to the owners for providing such a "good deal" both for the money and for the exceptional space!
