Had a wonderful, relaxing stay at the lake house. found everything as described. Weather was beautiful. Nice view from the deck. My wife and I enjoyed sitting on the sun deck watching the boats go by. I can tell the photos in the listing were taken a few years ago but the place is still nice. Would recommend this property in a heart beat. We went to All Steak in Cullman (very good). Wish we could have stayed longer. Maybe next time.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

Excellent rental for small group or couple. The view and lakefront lot/dock are super. The place totally opens up via two garage doors to the deck facing the lake. Excellent decor and well equipped and furnished inside and on deck. The place was super clean. There is a "house cat" that resides on the property and must have been adopted over time by renters. The cat is awesome and well behaved so when you open the place up expect him to make himself at home inside and out. He comes and goes throughout the day but is clean and never caused any problems, we almost brought him home. But if you have cat allergies you might have to make an effort to keep him out if the doors are open to the deck. Don't blame him he seems to have been spoiled by previous renters. It is about 20 minutes or more to the closest decent shopping in Cullman so stock up before or when you run in town, especially beer or booze which is only sold in the city limits of Cullman, the closer small convenience stores do not sell it. No alcohol sales anywhere near there on Sunday. This place is a great deal for the price!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Great vacation spot on Smith Lake. Convenient to restaurants, convenience store and marinas. The weather was cold and windy and we had rain, but still had a great time. The great room was perfect for getting several families together.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We rented Grace's Retreat for the week of our FLW Bass Tournament. The house was very well furnished with very comfortable beds and super clean upon our arrival. Big Kitchen for cooking and lots of open space with great views of the lake from the big deck. I will be back if we have another event on Smith. Boat parking was tight for two trucks and two boats, but we made it work. Had to back down a long driveway as there is not any room to turn around. Also, the door lock was tricky, but this is an easy fix if they re-key the house.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We very much enjoyed our stay. The weather did not cooperate (wet and cold) but we still had a great time. The house was nice and stocked with everything we needed. The kids and grandkids loved the cat that spent a lot of time by the front and back doors. We are looking forward to coming back in the spring or summer when we can enjoy the lake. Thank you for the Christmas tree it made our Christmas gathering special.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Grace's Retreat is a wonderful little cabin on Smith Lake. Refreshing, relaxing, quiet, tranquil. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. Close enough to town for essentials, yet far enough to be away from the everyday hub-bub..... Enjoyed the Welcoming Committee cat...we called Max.....he made a wonderful guard cat....as I caught him sleeping at the front door early in the morning (even though he isn't part of the Grace's Retreat package).....This was our first trip to Alabama and hopefully won't be our last. The folks are friendly and very hospitable....and will definitely stay at Grace's Retreat again.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway.

So the cabin is super cute and very comfortable. The kitchen really does have everything you would find in your own kitchen (possibly even more). There was one really big issue I had with the cabin that leads me to give it 2 stars instead of 5....THE CAT! The cabin comes with a tail-less cat the seems really sweet and like it just wanted to be loved, but I'm really not a big fan of cats. We arrived to the cabin in the dark and after finally getting into the cabin (the front door lock can be a little tricky) and turning on the front porch light, we found that the cat had left us a dead chipmunk in front of the door. For the rest of the weekend, the cat would sit at the back or front door meowing and starring at us through the glass. When I went to use the grill one night, the cat kept stepping in front of me and I almost tripped over it several times just trying to get to and from the grill. We took a blanket down to the dock, and of course the cat followed us and sat on the blanket too. The problem was that the cat kept trying to knead the blanket. When I tried to remove the cat from our blanket so it would not destroy the material with it's claws, that cat bit me! That was really when I really just got annoyed with the cat and mad at the whole situation. There was a water and food bowl for the cat on the deck, so I assume the owner must feed it when there is no one staying at the cabin. The cat acted like it belonged in the house and would run inside if we left the front or back door open for more than a few seconds. We actually had to remove the cat from the house several times after it jumped inside. I could not recommend this cabin to anyone with children or allergies because of the cat always being around.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: I apologize that the cat was such a nuisance. It doees not belong to us but tends to adopt our guests during their stay at the house. We are so sorry that this was a negative experience during your time in our vacation rental.

Very nice lake home with view of Smith Lake. Nice interior furnishings and kitchen is very well equipped. Beds are very comfortable and home was clean upon arrival. A couple of nice restaurants are within five minutes drive time as well as a great antique store. We will stay at Grace's Retreat again this year, probably for a week.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: Grace's Retreat was purchased in 2007 and is a family owned property. It is named for our Grandmother. The home was decorated by our sister who is an interior designer.
Why the Owner Chose Cullman:
This location was ideal for our family to maintain. It is only 10 minutes from our homes and we can be onsite to handle any problems within 15 minutes. The location of the home is so convenient for out of town guests - right off of Interstate 65 and only 2 minutes from the Smith Lake Park and the public boat launch.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The most unique features of our home are the two garage doors that open onto the deck allowing for the entire house to be open, or the screens can be lowered for a 'screened in porch' effect for the entire house.
