Location: East Village, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA (East Village Manhattan)
Accommodations: Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4-6)
Keywords: Apartment
Beautiful and tastefully furnished East Village apartment on charming tree-lined street. Furnishings are warm country rustic. Child-friendly.
There are two proper bedrooms. Both have double beds, one has a double futon as well(under the bed which can be pulled out) so that room could accommodate a couple and children or 4 children, or two singles. There is also a small massage room that I usually use as storage, but could also be arranged to use for a room to sleep with a mattress on the floor.
Right next door to the historical Russian Baths and surrounded by restaurants of all ethnicities. Great food shopping including farmers markets and 24 hour deli's. Laundry nearby with quick pick-up and delivery service. One block from Tompkins Square Park. Few blocks from subway and buses. Walking distance to Union Square and other neighborhoods.
Enormous, safely enclosed back yard with tall trees, bamboo and lots of green and squirrels. Easy access to Chinatown, midtown, museums and shopping...Garden is equipped with a barbecue and tables and chairs for dining and smoking. Pets may be considered based on individual request.
Imagine waking to the sound of chirping birds and church bells in Manhattan!

Let down by poor maintenance

The property was in a good location. On arrival, there was a very unpleasant smell coming from the cellar (drains). The air con was only in one bedroom while the other one was a net vent in bedroom window with the actual air con unit lying on the bedroom floor. At night, rats invaded the garden and ran along the window sill of the back bedroom. There is a lots of old rubbish in the garden which did not help with the rat problem. This would otherwise be a five star accomodation. The landlords have failed to address these issues and let the tenants down badly, I have been informed that the landlords are now looking into these problems and should be resolved as soon as possible.
Owner response:Oh dear...Unfortunately this guest was at the apartment the very week that the super quit. Of course the rubish attracts rats which usually stay at bay and I thought the air-conditioning unit had been installed. Wish the guests had notified me. I found out only on the day of their departure when my cleaning lady called me. Upcoming guests can rest assured that I have been right on top of things with the new super and and the exterminator. This apartment may soon have a resident kitty and I will be offering a partial refund to the se guests as I did for the one that arrived the day they and is now happy. Everything seems to be under control and I intend to keep it that way. Sincerely, Nanda

With a party of 5 we spent a wonderful week in NY. The apartment was clean, comfortable furnished and well located in a quiet area but nearby the subway. We really enjoyed the garden and the company of squirrels and birds while taking a coffee-break outside. Nanda was always helpful by answering our questions and concerns. We didn`t regret chosing this accomodation only for one minute!

Thanks to Nanda's apartment our stay in NY was a success. After a warm welcome by Romina we discovered the apartment and the neighborhood which was even better than what we expected! We were 2 couple with a child staying there for 2 weeks over Xmas, we even had 20in of snow! Perfectly situated, with everything you need and even more, very homey and spacious for New York. The neighborhood has plenty to offer and ideally situated to roam about Manhattan, 10mn walk to the subway. We will certainly be back at Nanda's place, in the summer next time, to make the most of the private garden! Thanks again Nanda!

I stayed here for a week with my brother and his wife. It was a perfect set-up for us with 2 very separate bedrooms, so we had our privacy, and a nice little living room and kitchen plus the fantastic garden to hang out in. The resident Black squirrel was fun to watch every morning. Easy walking distance to restaurants, cafes, food stores and Tompkins Square Park.

Advantages : four blocks away from L train & 14th street; delis, restaurants nearby ; wide apartment : 3 bedrooms (one of them being blind, good for storage) ; can have breackfast outside (beware the mosquitoes); Euros very welcome. Inconvenients : low insulation (noise by the road & heat) ; noisy clim ; bathroom of another age, broken tiles on the floor- looks dirty ; wooden floor in the main room and 1 bedroom only ; no lock to the rear sliding-window ....
Owner response:Thanks for the input. Yes, it is after all an East Village ground floor apartment. There is a lock on the back garden door as well as an iron gate for those who want extra security, however the walls surrounding are quite high and I sleep with the door open myself and feel quite safe. It's NY city but this apartment is quiet compared to my mid-town apartment. The bathroom has needed renovating for awhile and in fact is finally being renovated this very week. Thank you to all my guests who have been kind about overlooking the broken tiles that have really been an eysore for awhile. I will be posting new photos as soon as this has been done.

This two bedroom apartment proved a winner for our party of four adults. The location was chosen as it is near our daughter's place, but we were enchanted by East Village and its little bars and shops, plentiful eateries and the local identities. The apartment was spacious, clean and very well fitted out with internet, excellent cooking facilities and a roomy courtyard out back for our use only. It was most appropriate for our group as one member has slightly limited mobility and it was on the ground floor. A 10 minute walk across to the nearest Uptown/Downtown subway, but the L Line is a little closer. Fortunately the street was not noisy at night, with no buses or neighbouring bars, as the main bedroom is right on the street. We had stayed in West Village last time but it's becoming too trendy and touristy! This apartment was excellent value for two couples and we would fully recommend it for other visitors to Manhattan. We will certainly be back Nanda.

We stayed here for 4 nights in October 2009. It was really spacious for 2 couples, we each had our own large double bedroom and could hang out together in the lounge, kitchen and garden. Great location, felt residential and safe, lots of nice shops, bars and restaurants right on the doorstep. We would highly recommend this apartment, and judging by the guestbook in there, lots of other people would too!
