The best vacation rental we've stayed in!

Guest: FromCA (ca)
Date of Stay: 05/01/12 Review Submitted: 05/17/12

For the last several years we've been renting homes for vacations in different parts of the US, and this one is by far the best place we've stayed at. We felt like we were guests in someone's home rather than just "renters". Compared to other properties we were treated like royalty. The place is well stocked with just about anything you can think of. Laurie took really good care of us and when we were having trouble accessing the internet, she did everything possible to try and get it working again. She accommodated our every wish and even gave us gifts! We had a wonderful vacation and would love to stay here again.

We had a wonderful and relaxing week at your small home in paradise. We had just finished a very busy and exciting cruise around the islands. ( just so beautiful). It was nice to come and wind down and relax. We enjoyed the great part of the ocean that was right down the end of the path. Every time I went down to the shore it was even more spectacular than the time before. We want to thank Lori and Darla for being so helpful. Our trip is one we will remember forever. I hope to get back to Hawaii again soon and hope to stay at another house that they have. Mahalo.

Perfect Getaway!

Guest: Nicole (Reno, NV)
Date of Stay: 11/30/11 Review Submitted: 12/12/11

This house was perfect for our vacation. It was a good size and is right by the beach. Ewa Beach is a great place to get away to if you are not fond of the traffic and people in Waikiki. The house comes equipped with everything you need including, dishes and cookware, coolers, bathroom supplies, washer drier, beach towels, snorkel fins and boogie boards, movies, internet and cable. The bedrooms are air conditioned and have dark blinds to block out light on those lazy days you want to sleep in. It also has a nice back yard area with outdoor seating and a bbq. Laurie and Darla were great to work with and made the reservation process a breeze. We will definitely stay again and would recommend this place to our family and friends.

Wonderful location and vacation home

A wonderful vacation home and hospitality, particularly helping set up to accommodate our 18 month old with Pack and Play and High Chair. No request was too small and this made our first family vacation so special and worry free. The home is well equipped and I focus on 'home' right down to books, videos and house amenities such as washer, dryer and fully functional kitchen. The location is quiet and good for families with a super market and restaurants in easy driving distance. The beach is a short 5 minute stroll. Thank you again for the wonderful vacation home which gave us many good holiday memories.

Wonderful Girls' Getaway

Guest: Mari (Memphis, TN)
Date of Stay: 11/01/11 Review Submitted: 11/18/11

We recently stayed for ten days in this wonderful little cottage (three people). It is not huge but was more than sufficient for our needs. We stocked up on basic groceries the first day and then we were able to have breakfast at our leisure (at various times as each of us got up) and snacks at the house without having to "get dressed" and go somewhere. We usualy had lunch out when we were on our "day trips" to the various coasts of the island but had other meals in comfort at home. Basically this house is centrally located - making it very easy to go back to Honolulu or Waikiki; to Pearl Harbor; to the luau; up the west coast to the end of the road; north between the two mountain ranges to the North Shore; around Diamond Head and up the south portion of the east coast. You can go to the east coast from the north or the south and then there is an interstate road that has a tunnel through the mountain that brings you back within just a few miles of Ft. Weaver Rd - the main drag taking you back to the cottage - and the ride from the east coast to the west coast only takes about 15 minutes. After wandering the coast, stopping at shops and at the various look out places, finding an interesting place to eat, etc., you can just zip back home quite quickly. Of course the main attracation is the beach. It is a very short walk and we were on the beach numerous times. The morning I went to see the sun rise (only got up that early one day) it was beautiful to watch the sun rise over Diamond Head. I imagine the placement may change a little during the year but any sun rise on the beach would be great. We did see a number of sun sets and they were all beautiful. The beach is as secluded as the photos show and you can really see Diamond Head and the city from the beach. We sat and watched the planes coming and going from the Honolulu airport as well as watched the navy boats (ships?) leave the harbor and head out to sea. Having said all of that I also need to say that the owner of the house and the rental agent were each very likeable, easy to work with, and very accommodating. You couldn't ask for nicer hostesses! All in all it was a wonderful experience and if we go to Oahu again we will definitely contact them about this house. Enjoy your stay.

Perfect Location

Date of Stay: 10/14/11 Review Submitted: 11/15/11

My family of 5 found this small house to be perfect. The kids (Ages 6 & 9) preferred to sleep on the futon which left the two bedrooms for my husband and myself and my 22 year old daughter got her own room. You really get to feel like a local in this quiet neighborhood, all the neighbors were very nice too. The beach is so close you can wake up and watch the sunrise over Diamond Head in the matter of a minute. The beach was like our private beach, hardly ever saw more than a couple of people out there, such a nice quiet change from the bustle of Waikiki. It's centrally located so you're only 20 minutes from Honolulu and the airport and the North Shore. We made several day trips and were able to pack a lunch since there were coolers available and all the amenities of home (and more). The boogie boards were used daily and the water shoes came in handy. We packed light and did a couple loads of laundry and used the BBQ a few times as well to eat dinner in. We had a wonderful welcome from our Hostess Laurie and Darla was very helpful in the reservation process. We would highly recommend this house for anyone looking for a truly relaxing vacation. Our family can't stop talking about our trip and want to go back already!. Mahalo for everything.

Our stay

Guest: M, L, J, and W (Iowa)
Date of Stay: 07/27/11 Review Submitted: 08/20/11

We enjoyed the house very much. Just big enough for our family of mom, dad, and 2 small kids. The area is very residential and streets narrow and easy to navigate. The house itself is just as described.... simple and clean but so much nicer than being in a hotel with kids. We had just enough room to relax and our kids slept fine together in the 2nd bedroom. The coffee left and fruit basket was a nice touch. Laurie was a wealth of knowledge and was there for questions. Our kids loved to walk along the beach and stop by Laurie's and Darla's to play with their dogs. Friendly and peaceful area. Thanks again... our kids will never forget Hawaii!!! "Home away from home. This place was Amazing, it's hard to put it into words."

Date of Stay: 07/11/11 Review Submitted: 08/23/11

My, OH MY.... We stayed at this home from July 11,2011-July 19,2011. There was noone checking out before us, or checking out after us, so we got an early check in and late check out. Darla and Lori were more than helpful in this area beings that our plane landed in Hawaii at 11 am, and we did not part from there until 8 p.m.. Words cannot express the feeling of warmth and comfort while we stayed here. When we arrived, it was breathtaking. It was exactly like the pictures and the description that was provided for us. The Chocolate Pie was excellent. Lori had done stocked some water and fruit for us, and we, of course, went to the store and bought stuff to get us through the week. We wanted to see the Ocean right away, so upon our arrival to "Our Home" for the week, we immediately walked the short, very short, walk to the Ocean, and it was everything I had imagined and more. Everything I had imagined Hawaii would be was right there just as peaceful as I had always imagined. There was boogie boards, shoes, chairs and a surf board already there for us to use during our stay, and believe me, they were put to use. The backyard was gorgeous with the different plants and flowers. The washer and dryer was very handy so that we did not come home with anything dirty, and we washed up everything before we left. It was home. We cooked, and grilled and just had the best time, and couldn't have asked for anyone better than Lori and Darla. The water main broke in front of the house, but it was not anything to worry about, they worked all night until 5:30 in the morning to get it fixed. The days were warm, but not hot, but at night, you might want to take a light jacket, because being that close to the ocean, the nights were cool. I am NOT complaining about that at all. Where I live, in Arkansas, we have had 110 degree days, so the weather in Hawaii was PERFECT! The day we had to leave, we (my daughter, and a friend went with us), just hung around the house all day. We walked to the Ocean, sat outside, and just relaxed,( The whole trip was the most relaxation that any of us had had in years), but this was a different type of relaxation. None of us wanted to leave, and even cried. If you want all the comforts of home, but the get away from the everyday Hustle and Bustle, I would HIGHLY recommend this. EWA BEACH is the best, and THE STAY WAS AMAZING AND BREATHTAKING. Thank you Lori and Darla for all your help and hospitality. We will definitely be coming back very soon.

The cottage was everything you need for a great beach holiday for the family, less than 2 minute walk to the beach. Thanks to Laurie for making us feel right at home, everything and more was available on arrival. The garden is a great place for BBQ's, the AC was great on hot days. Thanks to Darla for making all the reservations and helpful information on the local attractions. We will definately be back !!

What an amazing place! The cottage was cozy and it was a short walk to the beack. Laurie made us feel like family and if we needed anything she was right there. It's a nice, quiet place out of all the tourist areas but just a short drive to everything you want to see and do. I would love to come back to Ewa Beach and would stay here again.

April 2010-Terri

Guest: Terri (Salem, Oregon)
Date of Stay: 04/06/11 Review Submitted: 04/12/11

Wonderful little home in an area that feels like a very authentic area of the island. Great beach access - saw a seal sleeping on the beach, families enjoying the surf, good views. The house is small but very comfortable and well appointed. Beds very comfortable. On the down side, is in a crowded residential area, and with the windows open to let in the wonderful breezes we heard mopeds zoom past, cars, Friday night party goers, dogs, etc.

Owner response:Like most local communities in the islands neighbors are in close proximity of each other. There are many who love to live in the islands and not enough land to support large lots and space between houses like on the mainland. I know that can be unusual for our visitors to have neighbors so nearby. That is somethoing you will notice in almost any neighborhood you go to in Hawaii. Ewa Beach is a local community which comes many blessings of the aloha spirit. The neighbors are friendly and welcoming. Occasionally there is a neighborhood party. The islanders are very family oriented and they never leave anyone out. We do hope our neighbors as well as visitors will adhere to the Ewa Beach city ordinace of no excessive noise after 10PM. Most of the oceanfront properties you hear more waves than anything else. In the still and quiet of the night you can hear the waves at Hale Pua Malia. Our plan to combat noise in the near future is to install 2 airconditioners. We ndo now have 2 AC 1 in each bedroom.Terri we are glad you enjoyed Hale Pua Malia and do welcome you and your family back anytime. Blessings and warmest aloha! Darla

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our time at Ewa Beach. It is just a stone's throw from the beach. The house was perfect for the two of us. The kitchen was well equipped and the yard/garden is beautiful with outside seating/table and chairs to have meals outside. Overall this is a wonderful beach cottage.

This property is 100% better than the pictures can portray. It is located in a quiet, friendly neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, yet conveniently located with easy access to highways. I enjoyed watching the ships go by, the Honolulu lights, the view of Diamond Head, collecting shells on the beach, and boogie boarding in the ocean. We could either cook in the fully furnished kitchen or out on the BBQ grill on the lanai. Lori is a terrific hostess. We were very impressed with the fresh fruit and candy that welcomed us. There was a typhoon watch while we were there, and she called to put our fears to rest. We felt right at home and everything we needed was at our disposal right down to the crock pot, fins and snorkels, even beach toys. This is a fantastic property and we hope to return someday.

To see more comments about this place see house as a whole. Vrbo 176263. We do not rent out boths at the same time to unrelated guest so everyone can have a private beach experience. We often times rent out 2 sides at the same time so you will get even more recent comments by looking at 176263 or 134275. I hope this is helpful. March 2008 — We had such a pleasant experience here! The owner, Laurie, lives nearby and was very warm and welcoming. She is a fount of information about Oahu - its history, beaches, culture - anything you want to know. She has stocked the house with lots of books about Oahu, plus maps and menus. The house itself could not have been nicer. Everything we could imagine was provided, including beach gear like chairs, mats and boogie boards. The wi-fi was especially convenient for us. We also enjoyed the cable TV, DVD player, laundry roomand large refrigerator-freezer. Although located in a tightly packed neighborhood, the house is very private and quiet (except for the sound of the ocean). The back yard ends at the beach. Ewa Beach is not a big surfing spot, so it was usually deserted, giving us the feeling of having our own private beach with a view of Diamond Head. The traffic on the main road to Ewa is horrendous. We're selfishly hoping that this is enough to keep this spot undiscovered for now.
