Charming and Sweet Restored Miner's Cabin in Old Bisbee
- Minimum stay:Contact manager
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
An ideal peaceful retreat for anyone wishing to experience the essence of Old Bisbee in a 105 year old miner's cabin with beautiful gardens and mountain views.
Please note there will now be a couple of sweet little cats as permanent residents so I am no longer accepting visiting pets. But Norman and Cleo make entertaining company and enjoy the ocasional scratch between the ears. (Norman does like to sleep on the bed.)
Casa de Alegria, 'House of Happiness', on Opera Drive, blends seamlessly with the character of Old Bisbee. A visit to this unique town is an opportunity to escape the fast-paced modern way of life and get a glimpse of a previous era. Many parts of Bisbee have not changed since the beginning of the last century. There are many historic buildings and museums to help preserve the character and tell the tale of a booming frontier town where fortunes were made and lost in what was, at the time, the richest copper mine in the world.
Casa de Alegria sits high up on one side of the once infamous Brewery Gulch, with wonderful views of the Oak covered mountain sides and well preserved Victorian houses. The 100 year old house was originally a home to a mining family and has been restored with a liberal use of bright and cheerful colors.
Antique furniture helps capture a bygone era and the overall impression is peaceful and joyful, hence the name. Wake up in the comfortable bed as sunlight fills the room and birdsong echoes through the canyon, smells of roasting coffee waft up from the town, a short ten minute walk away. This is my place to relax and unwind and it is my desire to share that peace with you.
This is a perfect spot for observing the natural history of the area. We get lots of beautiful birds feeding in the trees around the house including humming birds unique to the area.
San Pedro House (15 minutes away on Hwy 90) and Ramsey Canyon Preserve (35 minutes away in Sierra Vista) are two wonderful nature viewing areas which we like to visit over and over again.
One of the biggest surprises, even to native Arizonians, is the Bisbee weather. The summer months of July and August can be beautiful often with lots of cloud cover and temperatures in the 80's Farenheit. The summer monsoon season brings spectacular thunder storms and cooler temperatures and that's when the desert can look its most beautiful. Winters are mild, not really beginning until late December, although the elevation of 5,300 feet allows for some chilly nights and occasional snows will dust the hillsides.

We spent 3 wonderful months at the Casa last winter ! Loved the location , the people and the magic of being perched on the side of the mountain looking down into Brewery Gulch , you can almost imagine what would have been going on it's heyday ..... liked it so much we're going back again for another 3 months !Did you find this review helpful? While in Bisbee, we felt immersed in history, surrounded by remnants of a previously vibrant time. There is still plenty to do, however, if you wish. This well equipped, comfortable cabin is the perfect setting to just relax, enjoy the wildlife, or use as a base to explore the town and surrounding mountains. We enjoyed all aspects of our experience in the cabin, and my wife and I would love to come back, only to stay longer.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I have just spent 3 wonderful months in your casa! First time in Arizona and it certainly won't be our last. Have explored caves, went riding, and hiked every mountain range in southern Arizona. The casa, being our "Base of Operations" was pretty well central to all our excursions and WE COULDN'T HAVE ASKED FOR MORE. You have a little piece of heaven here, Justin and I can tell by the love put into this place that you know it! Till we meet again, take care of Bisbee and God Bless!Did you find this review helpful? "Very deliciously quiet. We loved the cabin, especially the hammock. We came up on a working vacation. Keith had a writing project and I had some fiber arts pieces to finish. We worked, relaxed and enjoyed your house and Bisbee. Thanks!"Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

If you are going to Bisbee I can't recommend this home enough. I visited last March and absolutely fell in love with this place. It is cozy and charming and the bed is soooo comfortable! I still think about the Casa de Alegre all the time and know a piece of my heart is still there. The location is great, not too close to the hustle and bustle of the tourism, yet only a few minute walk to downtown. I look forward to the day I can return to Bisbee and will stay no other place.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

About: I love to travel and explore new places. I especially like the ambience and character of historic houses and my passion has been making them shine again and come to life.
Why Bisbee:
I fell in love with Bisbee on my first visit, on a road trip with my girlfriend. The town absolutely captivated me in part because it reminded me of southern European mountain villages that I explored as a child. I came back a few months later to shop for a house I could take care of and use as a personal retreat.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This house is very well preserved without alteration to the original miner's cabins. It is away from busy streets and activity and yet a close enough and enjoyable walk to the shops and attractions of down town.
