Hatteras Island is a unique vacation destination. It has it all! The Island is a barrier island with miles of untouched beaches as 80% of the island cannot be developed but has pristine woods, marshes and bird preserves all of which are worth seeing. See the historic Chicamacomico Life Saving station in Rodanthe, the Cape Hatteras lighthouse in Buxton, the famous "Canadian Hole" in Avon, capitol of wind and kite surfing on the East Coast, and the many small shops and restaurants on the island. Take a 40 minute ferry ride to Ocracoke Island and see the wild ponies, explore the picturesque harbor and small women's and craft shops on the island, see the famous British cemetery actually part of England, and visit the Ocracoke
lighthouse. If fishing is your sport, charter a deep sea boat for tuna, cobia, wahoo, mackeral, mahi-mahi and other Gulf Stream fish, or fish off one of island fishing piers, fish in the Sound or just surf cast off the beach for blues, croakers, drum and flounder.
Escape the crowds and the busy city to our Paradise on Hatteras Island. The "Carolina Clipper" HCE-26, is a cedar shake Oceanfront home with great views! A charming, spacious, year round cottage is fresh and bright. It features an open and airy floor plan with large rooms.
No need to load the car up to go to the beach. Enjoy miles of unspoiled beach at your back door as well as windsurfing and fishing. Located on a quiet street and set in a cozy secluded drive way with trees and shrubs providing privacy.
Enjoy your morning cup of coffee from the Captains Watch with beautiful sunrise views. Come back in the evening for cocktails for equally spectacular sound sunsets. Or relax in a nice 2-person jacuzzi tub off of the master suite. Plenty of room for privacy, even with large groups. Soak up the sun on the outside decks or dine on the shaded, screened porch.
This house has a reverse floor plan with the bedrooms located on the first level. There is a large King bedroom and a large bedroom with two Double beds. Both have sliders leading to the rear deck and share a full bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and a shower. There is also a Queen bedroom, a bedroom with a Pyramid bed and a hall bathroom. Great Spot on Quiet Beach

We just returned from this great home and wanted to say THANK YOU for a great visit. The house is great with easy access to the beach and a great view of the ocean. We brought along our three daughters and found the outside shower (with hot and cold water!) to be a big help with our little ones after returning from the beach. We also liked the fact that the bedrooms are all on the same floor so that we were never too far away from the kids - yet still had peace and privacy of our own. We loved star gazing from the deck at night while listening to the sounds of the waves crashing below. It was so clear we could see the Milky Way! The beach is one of the most beautiful we've seen. Even on the busy Memorial Weekend holiday it was almost empty, and the surf break was incredible with an actual pipeline!!! There were also great sandbar/shallow areas for the kids to play safely so everyone was happy. The owner was gracious and helpful. We will definitely be back!
Owner response: We are grateful for the splendid review. The place and the beach are special for us and lots of our renters some of who come back following years. Nighttime is also special for the open panorama of stars which one does not see normally ( the island is 25 miles from the mainland ) at home and if one has a NASA chart you can track the space station and other orbiting satellites as they come over. One of the most spectacular phenomena is watching a storm at sea at night with the lightning, the billowing dark clouds and the rushing surf being driven ashore. We continue to try and improve the cottage and hope that others will give it a try.

My husband and I along with our 3 dogs spent from 4/26-5/7 and had a wonderful time. You couldn't ask for more peace and quiet. We walked the beach, through the neighborhood and had relaxing naps on the deck. Everything you needed to cook was there, the beds were extremely comfortable, Screened Porch was a great area for the dogs to nap on the cool afternoon and evenings. The gas grill was not working when we arrived and the Handyman came within an hour of calling him. He had it fixed right away and we used it every day. The hot tub was well maintained and checked by the service man twice while we were there to make sure the chemicals were balanced. The local shops were great and the main grocery store was only about 15 minutes away and it was a wonderful drive along the water to get there. We traveled up to Nags Head for dinner, about 25 minutes north, and also dined at a few of the local restaurants. We had the beach to ourselves, it was great not seeing anyone around, it was like being on a private island. Highly recommend if you want to get away from it all. The owner was great to deal with plus his follow up and attention to details was great. We had everything we needed from him before we even left home. I am recommending to others who want to visit the area.
Owner response:This is the result we strive for by investing in the house every year and keeping up with maintenance.....it is a nice place but requires our attention to detail and with our cleaning staff and handyman we manage to stay on top of it. We are not perfect so encourage folks to let us know if something is not right and urge them to call while they are there to have it fixed....try it yourself and let us know how you liked it.

This is the ideal place to have a family vacation. Plenty of room for a large family. There were a few little things that need a little TLC in the house, but that is to be expected in a home exposed to the elements of the coastal region. One thing that disappointed me was that the jacuzzi tub in the shared master bath did not work. But over all we had a great experience. The children could walk to the beach and I didn't have to worry about them crossing traffic. Or we could jump in the van and ride down a few miles to enjoy the public access to the sound. There is piers nearby for fishing and a few places to shop. Good family fun!!
Owner response:Communicated with the reviewer and was glad she enjoyed herself.....this week was opening week and a couple of little things needed some tweaking....but was disappointed the jacuzzi did not work as the motor and he rest of it fixed last fall. Have called repair guys to get in there fast to repair it.....we have to rely on local repair people and contractors to open house and get it ready....usually they do a good job but this time evidently missed something....since I personally use the jacuzzi I am annoyed at it not working.....it will be fixed shortly and anything else my housekeeper finds on her walk through today.

The house is large and spacious. However, the dishwasher had been left full of water and had molded. The bathtub would not drain and we had to deal with plumbers. None of the TVs would work nor would the DVD players. There was no internet connection and the number left to call was "not a working number". The kitchen was poorly furnished, and there was poor lighting in the main living area and several bulbs throughout the house were missing or burned out. Very disappointing.
Owner response:This renter was a chronic complainer. They washed their sandy dog in the bathtub and then complained that the drain was backed up....my handyman came over in 10 minutes and unplugged the drain During their weeks stay they were subject to a wide spread power blackout on the island thus the TVs did not work for about 9 hours....when the power was reconnected the cable connection ( controlling the TVS and wi-fi ) failed a reason having to do with the cable company and neither the TV or wi-fi connection worked....When we found out after they left, the cable company came and fixed the connection in about 15 minutes.......however, they never reported either issue to either of my two people whose numbers they did have ( in the rental agreement ). There were not burned out bulbs but the wall switch breaker had tripped when the power went out and they only had to push the switch button to untrip it. The house was completely furnished as all our houses have been for years. I wrote to these people explaining about the power outage with evidence of it and the fact that they never reported this stuff. They never responded. So, while we have two people to contact for any problem they only called one about the tub they themselves clogged up and never about the power blackout caused issues. Hardly a fair response and they seem to go out of their way to complain. Have had hundreds of renters in the house no reported other problem to VRBO
