awesome fishing cabin

Guest: DAK (Charlotte, NC)
Date of Stay: 05/04/12 Review Submitted: 05/09/12

Cabin was luxurious, spotless and up to date with top end appliances, a plethora of kitchen accessories, very comfortable beds and all the little special touches that you would find in your own home. While it is "river front", there is a road between the house and the river, however, it is not very busy and the sound of the rushing river could be heard as though you were right on the water! Fishing on the East Fork was easy and very productive, although crowded at times as the area in front of the cabin is clearly a popular spot to fish. Owner was awesome and accomodating to work with and worked to make sure our stay was perfect. Would definitely stay here again!

wonderful stay at the trout waterfall cabin and fly fishing

Guest: rosek (Palm Bay Florida )
Date of Stay: 04/28/12 Review Submitted: 05/11/12

I can only say this has been the most relaxing vacation and lovely nature renewing time of my life and my husbands. You should both feel so wonderful that you share this with outsiders... Ms Sloan your ambiance in this cabin is so superb. I have attached a photo of our dinner tonight with your table settings and wonderful linen napkins etc so you know how much we did enjoy. We have grilled out the entire time we have been here except for one night. I love to cook and your cabin has all the needs anyone could ask for regarding cooking. We went fly fishing today down by your other home. We met some really nice fly fishermen from South Carolina that gave us some tips and some worm lures the fish were biting today. unfortunately we didn't catch anything other than tree limbs and Bill caught his T shirt. But we had so much fun spent yesterday fly fishing on the Davidson river in the pisgah forest. Met a nice man that was celebrating his 66th birthday fishing with a big old smelly stogie in these lovely mountains. got over that and still had a great time. went to waterfalls too for three days. What a wonderful back to nature adventure !!! thank you so much for this lovely week.

Peaceful

Guest: Dawn (Gasonia, NC)
Date of Stay: 10/21/11 Review Submitted: 10/27/11

Peaceful is the best word to describe our stay at Riverfront Fishing Cottage. The porch, fireplace and sound of running water flowing across the rocks below, what more can you ask for. I had a hard time pulling myself away to visit the Dupont State Forest, which I’m so glad I did, the park is beautiful. Be prepared for walking a lot of walking, but it’s worth it. The cottage décor is perfect down to the silverware, and the bathroom, I have to say I never would have expected the detail, very nice. The directions are spot on, no wrong turns, and the location is perfect, solitude yet close to the attractions. Would I return, absolutely, Thank you!

perfect for the selective traveler

Guest: A well traveled Southerner (the Deep South)
Date of Stay: 08/24/11 Review Submitted: 09/12/11

This is a wonderful place to stay in the area near Brevard. Much thought and attention to detail is evident when you step inside the cottage, which is tastefully decorated and has a nicely applianced kitchen. The fishing theme is reflected throughout the home, but in a lovely upscale way, not at all cute, country or kitschy. The décor is stylish and comfortable; and the bathroom is what you would expect in a high-end home, not a weekend rental. The weather was beautiful during our stay and we practically lived on the deck and the screened porch...both great places for morning coffee and afternoon wine. The river is just across the road from the cottage and its sound was sweet music on the decks and porch. The road was closer than it appeared from the photos, but was not a problem as the traffic was minimal. There were many nice pools and riffles in the stream, but unfortunately the fish were too smart for us in August. Brevard is a short drive away and has good markets and restaurants. Jim and his wife are charming and quite helpful. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to my friends. This cottage is perfect for the more selective traveler.

Riverfront Cottage

Guest: Tammy (Rock Hill, SC)
Date of Stay: 07/28/11 Review Submitted: 08/01/11

Our family has just enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the Riverfront Cottage. Our children enjoyed fishing on the stream in front of the cabin. At night the sound of the river was wonderful as we relaxed on the screened porch and as we slept. We went on a tube ride down the French Broad River and enjoyed wonderful hotdogs and sundaes at Rocky's in Brevard. We had a fun trip to Pisgah forest, although it was a bit crowded on Saturday. All of these activities were wonderful, but we were always anxious to return to the serenity of the Riverfront Cottage.

Loved the cottage

Guest: CMC (Goshen, NY)
Date of Stay: 06/25/11 Review Submitted: 08/06/11

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the cottage immensely. It is a quiet and secluded place to relax, yet conveniently located within easy reach of Brevard, Hendersonville, Asheville, and Greenville, SC. The cottage is well appointed and comfortable. It is also perfectly located for fly fishermen (and women) and whether you fish or not, the river provides a relaxing presence at all times. We look forward to staying here again in the future.

Chasing Waterfalls

Guest: Martha (Georgia)
Date of Stay: 06/19/11 Review Submitted: 07/05/11

My three adult children and I thoroughly enjoyed staying in the Riverfront Cottage. The babbling brook across the street was beautiful to see and hear as we were relaxing on one of the three decks for coffee, lunch or just reading. We spent most of our time chasing waterfalls in the Mt Pisgah Forest close to Brevard and also in Rosman. We also spent time on the Blue Ridge Parkway enjoying the breathtaking views of the mountains. What a way to get out of the summer heat of Georgia, as it was at least 10 to 15 degrees cooler in the mountains.

I want to live there

Guest: Kip (Kentucky)
Date of Stay: 05/01/11 Review Submitted: 05/22/11

I have been to brevard several times and stayed at very nice bed&breakfasts in town. They were very nice and yet the trout house still blew them away. It is very up to date and stylish with plenty of room. Everything was clean and we were surprised how nice the dishes/silverware was. It was like a home away from home. The house is close to a road but traffic is very seldom and it makes easy access for excursions. The east fork river is on the other side of the road (50ft from house) and the sound is relaxing and the fish were plentiful. Great time & bargain.

Windows open, the sound of the river, cool breeze....it was amazing!! The cabin is very comfortable and very clean....listening to the river is so peaceful. The fall color was beautiful. Enjoyed having my coffee on the porch and watching the trout fishermen. Western North Carolina is beautiful and so much to do....didn't get to spend enough time at the cabin just soaking up the beauty. Hope to come back soon. Jim Sloan is a wonderful host and so helpful in offering tips about the area.

Idyllic River Retreat

Guest: Sidney (Summerfield, NC)
Date of Stay: 09/23/10 Review Submitted: 10/04/10

My husband and I had a marvelous, relaxing visit to the Riverfront Cabin. We loved the private and simply luxurious accommodations. If there was a "Cabin Beautiful" magazine, these properties would be on the cover. What a place to call home base amidst the sound of the river and migrating geese! My husband had a go of the fishing and was happy to release his catch, and enjoyed every relaxing minute! We had an invigorating hike in the nearby Dupont Forest and then filled our bellies with a giant burrito at Pescado's Burritos across from Brevard College...simply yummy!! All in all, a great beginning to fall 2010!

Beautiful Home - Great Fishing - Cool Temperatures all made for a great long weekend. We were seeking a way to escape the summer heat in SC. Who knew it would be so cool less than 3 hrs. away. We caught several nice brook trout, hiked to many beautiful waterfalls, slept with the windows open listening to the nearby stream. It rarely gets better that that! The cozy home is very clean, well cared for, and beautifully appointed with a convenient location. Owner, Jim Sloan, will offer lots of help and info. to make the most of your vacation. Go...Now!

Sitting on the porch with the sound of the rushing river and the view of the water with the backdrop of the forest was so mesmerizing, it was hard to pull ourselves away. Yet we still managed to fly-fish, play golf, hike, search for waterfalls, shop and enjoy several amazing restaurants in the surrounding area. The cottage is beautifully appointed in delightful detail with everything you need for a pampered stay. Jim Sloan responded to our every request and always pointed us in the right direction. Our only disappointment was that it was too warm to use the fireplace on the porch ... a terrific reason to return during a cooler season.

Had a great week of fishing and relaxing with a great friend. The cottage was very well furnished and very comfortable. If your there to fly fish and relax this IS the place. Down the driveway and across the street and your fishing for those wonderful trout. The river is stocked often so the fishing was awesome. The heated bathroom floor felt great on those chilly mornings. No need to look for another place to stay. This is IT!!!! Coming back for sure.

Spring Break at the Trouthouse Falls River Cottage

Guest: Midlothian travellers (Midlothian, VA)
Date of Stay: 04/10/10 Review Submitted: 06/16/10

My wife and two girls, 13 and 15, spent Spring Break at the River Cottage. We had a wonderful time at the cottage, on the east fork of the French Broad river, and in Brevard. Jim Sloan made the reservation process painless. The cottage itself is immaculate. It is very tastefully decorated and while not as secluded as his other properties it still offers great privacy. The highlight of my stay was the fact that the river was stocked on the second day of our stay. Between my two girls and me, we must have caught and released well over 60 or 70 brown trout, and that was just fishing one or two hours a day. The hiking and waterfalls in the area are great, Pisgah National Forest was wonderful, and Brevard has nice restaurants and a great gelato shop. This is our second stay at one of Jim's properties and won't be our last. It is probably a little more pricey than some of the other rental properties in the area, but his service, quality of the properties, and all of the nice personal touches make it well worth it.

We enjoyed a memorable Thanksgiving holiday and long weekend at this wonderful secluded cottage. The river was soothing music, the kitchen was very user friendly and the beds were very comfortable. The shower was also wonderful (great water pressure). Brevard was a short 15 minutes away when we wanted some shopping or eating out, but the best part was being so close to the river for fly fishing and enjoying such a cozy and well appointed cottage for a few days. Jim Sloan was a delightful person to work with when making reservations. We would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a cozy getaway with all the amenities you could want!

I would highly recommend staying at any of the Trout House Fall cabins. My wife and I stayed at the Riverfront Fishing Cottage for 4 nights. The location was right on a fishing stream. The cabin was very clean and well decorated. The beds were comfortable (tempur-pedic) and the shower was great. It was the best of both worlds--being secluded in the woods and yet having all of the amenities of a five star hotel. I would come back again and again.

Have stayed here twice with my wife, son and daughter and look forward to doing so again soon. Very comfortable, well-appointed, cared for and incredibly peaceful. The cabin is also very convenient to the best the mountains of North Caroilina have to offer. Standing in the river and teaching my children to fly fish for trout and catch some was the icing on the cake.

Although one can tell from the on-line photos, that this was a beautiful, well-decorated cabin, the photos don't do it justice. You have to experience this little slice of heaven to appreciate it. The decor along with the cliffside setting is so serene and peaceful and everywhere you glance there is another wonderful detail to amaze the senses. I could get used to being lulled to sleep by the sound of the river and the next morning enjoying the sight of a lone fisherman wading through the waters from my overhead screened in porch while I sip my coffee. Wow, it was hard to leave! The cabin was furnished and equipped with the best appliances. Very well-done and impressive. Thanks for sharing your cabin!!!!

My husband and I recently spent a truly idyllic week at the Riverfront Cottage. we were lulled to sleep by the murmur of the river. We awoke to the song of birds. We enjoyed watching the trout fishermen and we walked in the cool, clear water ourselves. The cottage is beautifully appointed and decorated...we had only to pick up our dinner each evening and then cook it on the great outdoor grill! We spent lazy mornings sipping coffee on the screened porch. We spent our days sightseeing in the area and enjoyed lunch at several of the terrific local restaurants. We attended a concert at the Brevard Music Center. We found that everything we wished to do or see was very accessible from the cottage, yet we had perfect privacy and our time was truly our own. It was as though we had our own special place in the mountains and we will certainly return. Our stay was peaceful, stressless and most relaxing. Do we recommend a stay in the Riverside Cottage? You bet we do!
