Featured on the PBS tv series, "Boomers" - this one-of-a-kind, elegant-rustic oasis - filled with Spirit - gives the unusual opportunity to both rest-retreat, and be at the center of Santa Fe's cultural activities. You are a short walk to the art galleries and cafes of Canyon Road and/or seminars at St. John's College. But here life moves to the rhythm of an earlier time.

Set on a hillside with prayer flags and peaceful views across Santa Fe, the Blue Door Guest Quarters is bathed inside and out by a magical light, the soothing sounds of a babbling brook and the vibrant color of tended gardens (a bit of Japan mixed with native plants of the Southwest). At night, sit under a star-studded sky, by the illuminated stream, or soak in the hot tub (see photo below). The whole experience is one of quiet, listening only to nature, and nourishing your spirit.

The Guest Quarter's open space divides into a cozy bedroom with sitting area, and modern kitchen, equipped with everything you need to make meals at home. Lounge with your coffee inside or on a shaded courtyard at water's edge. En suite is a spacious bath with tub and shower. In the adjoining Pine Room is a wood stove/fireplace - for cozy nights.

Many custom details grace the guest quarter. The floor is saltillo tile with radiant heating. Hand-crafted wooden frame windows open to the sound of falling water. Views capture the play of light throughout the day and at nightfall thrill to brilliant sunsets over the western Mountains. There is an exquisite peace (no TV) and Smoke-Free (interior and gardens). For your convenience we have wireless internet access.

The tradition of the "blue door" was brought to New Mexico from the Mediterranean. Blue signifies welcome, hospitality and safe haven for the traveler.

In addition to this extraordinary space, you may choose to tailor a personal retreat with the owner, Alexander Shaia, Ph.D., who lives on-site. Throughout the retreat are unique artifacts - set in a Zen-like way - to evoke a depth of Spirit. The Pine Room - that adjoins the Guest Quarter - is dedicated to an exploration of world mythology and the inherent wisdom found in each one of us. In the Blue Door's communal space is an extensive library of myths, folktales and imaginal psychology. If you would like information on a retreat with Dr. Shaia, please ask.

The rustic elegance and deep spirit of the Blue Door Retreat make it a unique and rare property. This place is dedicated to offering a different type of stay. Luxurious - yes. But also a place to step away from outer noise and let beauty and nature fill your senses and touch your soul.

Ways to increase your chance of a stay at the Blue Door Retreat:
- Email is better for initial contact than phoning. To maintain
a sense of quiet and spaciousness - phones are rarely answered
during the day. Emails that arrive in Santa Fe (Mountain
Time) 9 am to 4pm - are usually answered the same day.
- Desiring a unique & quiet stay - more than just a place.
- Average stays are one to two weeks. Maximum is one month.
