Enjoy summer days in this bright antique cottage at the head of Lake Damariscotta on Davis Stream, 3 hours from Boston. Fishing/kayaking right off your private dock in a tranquil stream, minutes from Lake Damariscotta State Park. Watch loons, heron, eagles, geese, ducks and beaver (an the occasional moose if you're lucky!) from the dock or deck in your Adirondack chairs; 2 large bedrooms upstairs sleep 8. The 1st has a queen and a twin bed, 2nd has a queen, twin and a set of bunks. There is a sleeping porch on the front of the house with a twin and full -size bed. Blow-up mattress also available. There is a full bath upstairs and a half-bath with laundry off the kitchen downstairs. Comfortable living room with TV for the VCR/DVD player. Video rentals, pizza and grill at the general store just a short walk from this home-away-from-home. Canoe, kayak, paddle-boat, grill, fire-bowl & wood available for use. A short ride to coastal Damariscotta, this cottage is a gem. Some DVDs, games, puzzles, and reading materials available in the cottage.
Great Location: This house sits at the bend in Davis Stream where it leads out into Damariscotta Lake. It is a wonderful location... very peaceful, quiet and less than a 1/2 mile from the entrance to Damariscotta Lake State Park beach. The lake is a 14-mile long, 4381 acre body of water. From our deck you can watch wildlife...herons, loon, ducks, beavers, etc. The General Store, called Jefferson Market, carries all sorts of sundries and they make pizza, burgers, and other foods for breakfast, lunch or dinner for those who don't feel like cooking. The store is a short paddle-boat ride or walk from the house. There is also a new market, Ollie's Place, just down the road from our cottage. They serve pizza, grilled foods, and ice cream in an old-fashioned setting. They have video rentals, video-game machines for the kids, homemade baked goodies and wi-fi for their customers!
Boating: There is a public boat launch a few miles (about 7 or 8) from the cottage along the lake where you can put in if you have a larger boat to bring with you, and there is a large dock to tie up to right in front of the cottage. Boats must be under 6 feet in height to get under a low bridge that leads to our house and dock. We dock a 21-foot motor boat there when we use the cottage.
House Rules/Information: Trash needs to be dropped off at transfer station in Nobleboro, approx. 7 miles from cottage, upon departure. They are closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. Directions and dump-pass are in the cottage on counter when you arrive. There is a barn for storage of any large items. There are a couple of fishing rods available for use, but please use with care. When you leave, we appreciate if you can strip and make the beds with the quilts provided and leave the cottage in the same condition you find it. If linens become soiled for any reason, please wash and dry them before departure.

I have had a number of coast area rentals in Maine, but this was the best experience yet. The view out the back is beautiful. The house is roomy and comfortable. The house has a lot to offer. The general store is a couple minute walk, or there is a dock there which you can take a boat up to, or of course you can drive. The dock is nice to have, along with the boats. Not to mention the frequent visits from ducks that come right up to the back yard. It is extremely close to one of the state parks which has a beach, and a reasonable drive to many Maine landmarks. Nice little feature was one room that has a window air conditioner. I don't come across many rentals that have any air conditioner. It was nice to be able to relax in that room if it got particularly hot. The house itself is charming, has a roomy kitchen with every feature. It is a quiet and pleasant place for people who are site seeing, But easily full featured enough for families with Children. I would be tempted to go on about how great the stay was. I would add that the owners are extremely pleasant. They were very helpful when I spoke to them. I would just add, that the pictures don't really express how nice it is. It was even nicer than I imagined it based off the pictures. I have spent a lot of time browsing these sites. There is simply NOT a better offering at the rent they are asking.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

The property was well maintained and was exactly as described in the owners description. The provided amenities were excellent; canoe, paddle boat, grill, fire pit. The stream out back was a wonderful place to explore by canoe or paddle boat and the access to the lake with your own boat was easy. There was an excellent supply of brochures of places to go and things to see. As Rockland, Camden, Boothbay and Belfast are all reasonable drives with many things to see and do. The town of Damariscotta was 25 minute drive, but has great resources for food, supplies and entertainment including a large Hannafords Grocery, King Eiders Pub & Restaurant, Round Top Ice Cream, Reny’s, a few farm stands and Mid-Coast Kayak. For me personally, the property is not enough of a secluded location, as it is along a main road (for the area). Also, we found the stream was not the best swimming location, but the state park beach was within a mile and had facilities. We would have preferred to be able to swim right at the house, as opposed to going to the lake to swim. But these are minor personal preferences. The owner was prompt with correspondence, easily reached for any issues and wonderful to work with. I would recommend this property to friends for an excellent cottage rental located in a glorious region of Maine.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children.
