Experience life on an island off the coast of Maine...beaches and bell buoys . . . Swimming and tennis...an island without cars (they are banned) or cares.
Relax.
Embrace the comfort and charm of another era in a restored brick home, part of a century-old fort listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Diamond Cove is a small residential and vacation community on Great Diamond Island, in Casco Bay, two miles by ferry from Portland. Our secluded beaches abound with tidal pools and sea glass, even shards of crockery from the fort’s heyday. Explore miles of walking trails through the island’s silent old growth forest and along the water’s edge - you may encounter our elusive moose, a family of wandering deer, herons and osprey, perhaps a few seals.
A vacation at Diamond Cove offers a unique experience - the enchanting natural beauty of a Maine coastal island, coupled with the intriguing charm of a bygone way of life.
Among the numerous amenities enjoyed by Diamond Cove residents and guests are a popular gourmet restaurant, five private beaches, tennis courts, a heated outdoor pool, a general store, a marina, even the original gymnasium and vintage bowling alley, all within walking distance. Since there are no private automobiles, we enjoy the peace and magic of island living, combined with the beauty of a bygone era.
Our home is located in the heart of Diamond Cove, a tranquil former military outpost of the 1890s that was converted to luxury vacation residences in the 1990s. Our particular home was a Sargeants Quarters. It has an inviting front porch, spacious open floor plan on the ground level and two bedrooms with two bathrooms on the second level. There is a rear porch that overlooks a pristine wooded area with a gas grill and seating.
There is a complete, fully stocked kitchen and in-house clothes washer and dryer in the basement. The unit is furnished with colorful, whimsical materials that are also quite practical. There is a dining area, breakfast bar and living room with flat screen TV with Direct TV. There is also Direct TV in the master bedroom as well as an en-suite bathroom.
Renters can take advantage of all the island resort has to offer. Complimentary van service to and from the pier and grocery / baggage delivery from the ferry to the home is also provided. The island is peaceful even at the height of the summer season.
Nearby Portland is a gem of a city, with art/culture, shops, a remarkable array of terrific restaurants, theaters (including an art-type little theater), and more. You are also just 20 minutes from Freeport, with LL Bean and outlets galore. |
