We just returned from a delightful three night stay at the “Crooked Cabin” with our son and his girlfriend. The home is exactly as pictured on the website. It is very clean and has all of the amenities one would desire in a home away from home. The towels were plush, the beds comfortable, and the homemade cranberry-banana bread and juices that were awaiting us on our first morning were tasty and very much appreciated. During our stay, we attended a play at the Barter Theatre, visited the downtown Farmer’s Market (a must do), took a tour of the Abingdon Winery (complete with tasting), scoured the local antique shops, enjoyed an olive oil tasting at The Olive Oil Co. (unexpectedly awesome experience) and spent a fun filled evening at the Damascus Fire Department playing Bingo. The folks at the Damascus Fire Department take Bingo to a new level, so if you’re staying at the “Crooked Cabin” and enjoy Bingo, you really should go to Damascus on Saturday night for an evening of Bingo (only about 10-15 minutes from the cabin). The cabin is conveniently located to restaurants and downtown Abingdon. You can easily walk to restaurants, shopping and the theatre and other attractions are just minutes away from the cabin. Jennifer and Jim are great owners and were very easy to work with. I would love to come back for a return visit in the spring or summer when we could enjoy the cozy back yard garden which has a brick lined patio area surrounded by ivy and greenery and is enclosed by a wooden fence. This intimate little garden area is complete with seating and an outside table and chairs at which I can only imagine enjoying morning coffee or late evening beverages. I highly recommend this property if you are looking for a relaxing vacation in a charming and quaint small town with lots to do. (Was that description contradictory?) I guess what I mean is that you could do lots or nothing and still have a great experience at the “Crooked Cabin.” And when you arrive, you’ll understand the “crooked” part. (Smile) Thank you Jennifer and Jim for sharing your home with us!
Owner response:This has been a perfect fall season for the mountains and we have noticed that November and December are suddenly becoming popular months to travel to Abingdon! After November 15th, the low season rates go into effect as well! I love hearing about all the fun things that our guests find to do...the Damascus Fire Dept Bingo is definitely a first for me to hear about! We will have to try that ourselves. We have many guests who ride over to the Carter Fold to enjoy a Saturday night of music and dance in one of the most historic Old Time Music venues in the world. I love November in Abingdon because there is still a hint of color and the October crowds have thinned a bit on the Creeper Trail. Thank you for sharing your activities so that others may get some ideas when they arrive! We love seeing our guests again and have many 10 year veterans at the cabin who return yearly to enjoy Cabin, Abingdon and the area activities. We have guests tell us they love trying out all the seasons in Abingdon...and will often return the same year at a different time to enjoy a whole new array of events and happenings. We have also noted many VRBO property owners who have been guests this fall...we always love having them! Thanks for your review!

My cousins meet every fall somewhere in the mountains. We stayed at the Crooked Cabin this year, in downtown Abingdon, and have found our "home". We are all in our 60s, and have fallen in love with the unique and wonderfully comfortable and cozy cabin. It is tastefully decorated, beautifully funrished and we love the uneven floors and ambiance of the whole place. We enjoyed the lovely outdoor patio, the large table that allowed us to all be together to play cards, eat, laugh and be together. The beds are comfortable, the place is clean and well stocked with lush towels and washcloths, cooking supples, and generally...an "ideal" home away from home. We wouldn't change a thing! We walked around the shopping area, went out to dinner at one of the nearby restaurants and enjoyed the scenery and the fall trees Loved it, and have already booked it for our next year's gathering! Thanks for being there, Jennifer!

This is one of the nicest places I have ever stayed! My aunt, mom and I vacationed here in October 2011 and we all had a wonderful time. We loved the crooked floors, the fenced in backyard, the homemade cinnamon buns waiting for us on arrival and the coziness of the entire house. Plus the location can't be beat. It's right in the middle of historic Abingdon and is in walking distance to everything. Abingdon is a wonderful vacation destination with good restaurants, shopping, theater and that great Creeper Trail! We all agreed that we want to come back to the Crooked Cabin soon!

My husband and our children started going to the Crooked Cabin years ago. Our kids have grown up and moved away. Now once a year I go with my 3 best friends for a girls getaway. We have been doing this for the past 9 years. The Crooked Cabin is a unique place. It is clean, roomy, and well maintained. It is within walking distance of the Barter Theater where we have seen some excellent plays. It is within walking distance of the Virginia Creeper Trail. The owners are wonderful people to work with. They are very helpful in suggesting activities that are available around Abingdon. Every day delicious snacks are provided with an assortment of different coffees and tea. One of our favorite places to eat is the "Tavern" which is just across the street. The Crooked Cabin is an excellent place for groups or families to stay.
Owner response:We love to hear from our repeat guests. We always look forward to their visits at one of our properties and are delighted to help them plan their stays in Abingdon. The Crooked Cabin does offer a perfect location for walking everywhere in town and taking advantage of the fine shopping, dining and other venues such as Barter Theatre, William King Arts Museum and Arts Depot. Most of our guests have stayed some of our other properties and each has its own distinctive character to offer ! The Crooked Cabin is definitely an unusual property with its link to a historic past!!! Thanks for your compliments.

We've stayed at the "crooked cabin" several times when traveling to Abingdon, VA. Always clean, charming and comfortable. Great location on the main street of Abingdon. Close to shops, restaurants, the Creeper Trail and the Barter Theatre. The owners are gracious, accommodating and know the area very well. My husband and I feel like family when we go there ... we are so well tended! It's wonderful to wake up in a home with a delicious breakfast delivered each morning. We highly recommend this charming experience when in Abingdon!
Owner response:We deliver complimentary homemade pastries along with juices on arrival morning. They will be waiting for you when you check in to have at your leisure the following morning. Some of our guest's favorites include our homemade Cranberry Cheddar Bread and our Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread. We supply our guests with a good choice of coffees and teas for their enjoyment. If you don't want to cook and are in the mood for a hearty breakfast, there are good spots within walking distance or a short drive, We have a notebook which displays all the menus in our area and we will be glad to suggest Sunday brunch spots or local favorites for a big breakfast! Of course, we urge our weekend guests to make a stop at Abingdon's fantastic farmer's market...from 7-12 on Saturdays...there you can enjoy eating your way through all the boths and having your own portable feast! From casseroles to homemade ham biscuits and wonderful Italian meatballs, you will find something special to enjoy at the picnic tables or take back to the cabin to prepare.
