The Yellow Door is our smallest and budget apartment, yet comfortable and stylish, in a cozy traditional adobe in downtown Marfa. The bedroom and living room are combined but the kitchen is separate, so it's a hybrid between a studio and 1BR. Three sun tubes bring strong light into the bathroom and BR/LR.
The key to our colored door apartments is location, location, location. You are in the heart of Marfa's gallery district. The Get Go Specialty Grocery is across the street. Restaurants, coffee shops, the Marfa Book Company, and the Saturday morning (April-Dec.) farmer's market are within two blocks. You can come to Marfa and never use your car.
Enjoy your Chinati Foundation and Judd Foundation tours--the astonishing creations that make Marfa world famous--and then drive the top 10 scenic road along the Rio Grande, and relax in the world's pre-eminent installations of works by Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, John Chamberlain and others. You'll find small-town friendliness (we never go to the post office unless we have an hour to spare to chat) mixed with residents from all over the world.

My husband and I went to Marfa for the Marfa Lights Festival and for our 2 year anniversary this year. When we got to the apartment it was so cozy I felt right at home. For two people it was the perfect size. And for all the eco friendly people, they have organic/natural products in the apartments which I LOVED. Also the place is right across the street from the Get Go where I stopped by every day to grab a drink or water and some snacks. When I had a question Tom I believe was really helpful and so welcoming. Everyone in this town is so nice as well and I totally fell in love with this place. The day we were leaving we wanted to stay a few hours after our checkout time and when we called they said it was fine since the cleaning lady was not coming til later. I can't believe how accommodating they were, Thank you. We are definitely coming again for our next anniversary and booking a stay at staymarfa again.

STAY Marfa is located in a perfectly central spot in town right next to Ballroom Marfa and the "Get go Grocer". The Yellow Door and it's patio were the perfect size for two. The room was clean and cute and the skylights in room are amazing. During my stay I needed an iron and had the good luck of running into someone on the cleaning staff who was very friendly and quickly provided me with one. After my stay and at my next vacation stop I realized that I had misplaced my camera charger somewhere but had no idea where. Fortunately Janet for STAY emailed me and mailed it right back to my home. Overall my stay was completely pleasant and the service was excellent. I would definitely go back and have already recommended STAY to friends!

STAY Marfa is located in a perfectly central spot in town. The "Get go Grocer" is directly across the street, able to supply you with any last minute forgets. The Yellow Door was the perfect size for two us. It is larger than a hotel room, and much more homey. The patio was a bonus and the perfect spot to relax with pizza and wine in the evenings. Overall, we appreciated the private, understated, retreat-like nature of the Yellow Door. If you are looking for less kitsch and more simple quality, I'd recommend STAY.
Owner response:We just so appreciate this and all the kind reviews. Thanks and please don't forget the 10% return visitor discount!

We had a great time staying in Marfa at the Yellow Door. The Thunderbird is nicer but it will cost you, thought they do have a pool. This room is small but for a couple that are just there for an event or to explore Marfa it works out great. It is very private, which is a plus. Highly recommend Cochineal for breakfast, lunch and dinner! There is a great little grocery store, The Get Go, right across the street from the colored doors.

Don't get ripped off by the overpriced kitsch of Thunderbird, these are the best places to stay in Marfa! Well designed with IKEA and other modern furnishings, the place has all the elements of Marfa charm with its mix of west texas and modern minimalism . The owners are wonderful people and helped me with local advice on where to eat and visit and promptly answered any questions we had. Being so close to everything was great and easily walkable to any place downtown. You also can't beat having your own full kitchen to cook and a private patio to relax after a night on the town. If you're looking for a place to get away and feel like you live in Marfa this is by far the place to stay.
