Great condo in a location on Big Mountain! The owner, Will, is so easy to work with and so accommodating! We found fresh bread and cookies when we arrived which was so wonderful after a very long trip from Georgia! The condo is super clean and has everything one could need! We loved our Spring Break at Salmon Run and would go back again! We highly recommend the Dog Sled Ride we had arranged through Whitefish Resorts. Do note both bedrooms are on a lower level that requires a trip down a spiral staircase. This was not an issue at all for us but could be for some~ Overall a wonderful condo and owner!
Owner response:Lynn, Thanks for the very kind words and we are very happy that you enjoyed your stay. It is a very long way to travel from Georgia, so even more important for us to insure that you enjoy your stay. Please do come and stay with us again. Will

Can't think of one bad thing to say about this property. Will was quick to get back with any questions I had leading up to our 4 night stay. The bread/cookie basket which was on the dinner table to greet us was sooo yummy! Very good location, walking distance to the pool and hot tub, and during the night you could hear the snow fall it was so quiet. The beds were comfy, lots of towels, and and well stocked kitchen with everything you'd have at home. It was our first time at Ptarmigan Village and won't be our last.
Owner response:Kent, Thanks for the kind words. I have already let Ptarmigan know about the one suggestion you made in your email. This helps insure that the next guest has the same wonderful experience you had. Please do come back and I am very pleased to have you recognize just how wonderful Ptarmigan Village can be. Will

I have stayed at this particular condo in Ptarmigan Village twice and have enjoyed my stay both times. It is very comfortable and clean. The pool and hot tub are a very short walk away and everyone is pleasant to deal with. I would highly recommend this condo to anyone looking to be in a secluded "woodsy" area that is close to the ski hill and downtown. My only recommendation is to get a phone in the condo. If you are Canadian it is difficult (and costly) to call for cabs as there is no phone service. We made do though!
Owner response:Jennifer, Thanks for the kind words. I have reconsidered the phone service issue and have decided to add the phone service to the condo again. I actually disconnected the service a couple of years ago because of the "limited usage". At least this was my thought process at that time. Your input was the first time that the cost argument was raised. It does make sense that this is, in fact, an International call. Thanks! Will

Living in the city; when we go on vacation we really want a get away. We stayed at Ptarmigan Village on a recent get away to Whitefish. It felt like we were in the middle of the forest, mountains and pure peace and quiet. It was awesome. The pool, hottub, steam room and play ground were added bonuses and we all had such a great time. I have recommended this condo rental to several of my friends. We will surely stay again. Thank you for being such great hosts.
Owner response:Shannon, I am always please when I can share what has been my experience with Ptarmigan and all that this part of Montana has to offer. Please do come again and we look forward to having you stay with us. Regards Will

We found the condo to be very clean, comfortable and convenient to Whitefish and it's amenities. We took advantage of the private beach area and enjoyed a quick dip in the refreshing waters of Whitefish Lake. Another plus was the reasonably-priced on-site laundry facility..also very clean and well-maintained. A special treat Will provided was a generous bag of treats from a local bakery...appreciated and enjoyed by all! We would certainly stay here again when our travels bring us to the area.
Owner response:Sandra, Glad that everything worked out well and you enjoyed your stay. Please do keep usin mind for a future visit to Whitefish. Regards Will

The condo is in a great location to get away. Great living room area with nice couches and a fire place. Fully stocked kitchen, towels in bathrooms and sheets on the bed...what more do you need? The new hot tub/pool which is a one minute walk away was really nice after a long day of hiking. Will is a great person to rent from...very friendly and extremely quick to respond to emails or phone calls. I would defiantly recommend this place and will hopefully be going back to ski! Daniel
Owner response:Daniel, Glad to hear you had a great time. I also enjoy the pool area and look forward to some relaxing time when I go to Whitefish later this month. Regards Will

This vacation was well needed and anticipated by my whole family! The stay at the condo was wonderful! Will treated us with a delicious gift basket full of goodies! His hospitality and kindness was impeccable. Our family was able to kick back and relax at the condo. The location is worth driving a few minutes from Whitefish, especially if one is seeking peace and serenity .We loved the style of the condo and the kids would definitely say that they enjoyed the spiral staircase with the built in book shelf! When we were not out hiking or river rafting, my children loved to sit on the stairs and read the fantastic books that Will and other guests provided. My chlidren really loved our late nights playing a family game of Star Wars Life as well. Thanks Will for helping with our family vacation be a memorable one!
Owner response:Kim, It always makes me feel good to know guests enjoyed their stay. It just confirms why I picked Whitefish some 15 years ago as a place I wanted to visit on a regular basis. We are always trying to improve the condo so that it is comfortable and our guests feel at home. I built in the bookcase last Oct(something I wanted to do for years) and will be adding many more books on my next visit this Oct. Regards Will

My family recently stayed in Will's condo for a brief 3 days. Wish we had more time to visit the area. The Condo was perfect for our family - our teenagers had their own room, with their own beds. We enjoyed the pool & hot tub. The welcome bag of Great Harvest treats was a very nice touch. The Condo area was very quite. Will was fantastic to work with - very prompt to answer all of our questions. I would recommend his condo highly to anyone intersted in getting a nice value near Whitefish.
Owner response:Jeff, Thanks for the kind words. I hope you have the opportunity to visit again and stay longer. Thanks again for staying in our condo. Regards Will

The rental was just as described and PERFECT for our travelling party of 4 adults. The hot tub, pool and workout area was very nice. All amenities were as described and in working order and attention to little details, plus the welcome basket of bakery goods, were very much appreciated. Will replied to all of my emails in a very timely fashion and I had every confidence that we would be satisfied. Very much worth the price - would love to come back in the winter to ski!! Don't miss the zipline at Whitefish Mountain Resort - right up the hill from Ptarmigan. Just a few things to mention...both bedrooms are down a winding staircase that would be difficult for elderly or handicapped to manuever. Also, when travelling to Glacier, once you wind down the mountain, drive thru Whitefish and get on the highway, it is closer to a 45-50 minute drive rather than 1/2 hour. This is important if you are trying to get there for a rafting trip or horseback ride, as they will leave if you are not on time :) That being said, the extra time spent driving was well worth it, as all the other condos we looked at online were priced at "high season" and were $100-150 a night more than this one and not nearly as nice.
Owner response:Tamara, Thanks for the kind words. I am glad to hear you had a great time in Montana and our condo helped to make your trip a memorable one. Guests are the best source for making continuous improvements to our condo and the VRBO site. With regard to the time to Glacier(East Entrance) I will take your comments and update the VRBO site. I think it might have taken that long when this VRBO was set up some years ago , but I would agree that 45 minutes might best reflect the situation today. Thanks! Regards Will

My wife and I and two college age daughters stayed for a week in the condo around the first of July. The description of the condo is accurate and it was very comfortable for the four of us. The baked goods package was a great surprise. We were in Whitefish to play in the "Fourth of July" golf tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club. After four days of golf, the hot tub was perfect! If things work out, we will be back next year.
Owner response:It was our pleasure to help make your stay a pleasent one. We always appreciate our guest feedback becasue it lets us know what we are doing correctly and what might need improvement. Both are beneficial! Thanks again and we hope you do return in the near future. Regards Will

We stayed at Big Salmon the last week of August and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Ptarmigan Village was easy to find and conveniently located, close to Big Mountain Resort. The condo is well kept, comfortable and the indoor pool was fantastic. The staff at the office were great, very helpful. And the welcome basket of baking was tasty! We would love to come back during ski season. The Whitefish area is beautiful and the people are very friendly and helpful to tourists. We highly recommend the zipline up on Big Mountain, the authentic Mexican cafe in downtown Whitefish and a quick look at the Hungry Horse dam.

This condo was perfect for the week in July 2010. It is extremely spacious, well equipped and lots of extras like condiments, toiletries, gas BBQ etc. There was a huge bag of cookies and homemade bread on arrival and that was very nice and welcoming. The condos are in a nice quiet resort with a lovely pool and fabulous spa. It is a bit of a drive from Whitefish but easily drivable. Lots of wildlife to see. Mountain Lion and Bear tracks were seen in the resort! Would thoroughly reccomend the property and the owner cannot do enough to help. Very good Mountain biking at Big Mountain.

When we arrived at ptarmigan village after hours, there was a nice welcome packet with our key in the drop box and we easily found the unit. We really enjoyed the bag of goodies that was waiting for us and the condo is nicely situated on the grounds. The condo was perfect for a family of 5 and our 3 young children loved the bunk bed room. I always appreciate having a fully stocked kitchen as it makes cooking for a large family easy. We visited both pools (indoor and out) and had a great time and the children practiced fishing in the pond. My only constructive criticism (and these are minor) would be that the magazines available were all 2-4 years old and the mats in the kitchen are falling apart. It looks like cleaning staff may be vacuuming the edges and they are all tattered. Thanks again for letting us stay in your condo.

We had an absolutely fantastic time in Whitefish and Glacier NP. The condo was a great place to base out of...a perfect location. Very liveable with everything we needed. Close enough to Whitefish and all it's charms (Farmer's Market, The Great Northern, watching the trains, City Beach, etc) and yet very quiet and relaxing. Our young girls loved the bunk bed, hot tub/pool and life amongst the trees. We're looking forward to a return visit. And Glacier NP on a sunny day may just be the most beautiful spot on this planet. Thank you, Will.

I stayed at Will's property in June of 2010 and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of Montana and Glacier National Park. The townhouse is located in a secluded area, sheltered by trees and mountains, yet minutes from the town of Whitefish. For all you Gilmore Girls fans, Whitefish will remind you of Star's Hollow. Picturesque boutique shops, breweries, antique stores and a large grocery stores nearby. You're half an hour from Glacier Park, with access to mountain trails, white water rafting (try it, it's GREAT) and tranquility. And the people of Whitefish? The greatest! I wish I could have stayed longer...Will, thanks for all the helpful information. You're concern, great bakery goods, and comfortable townhouse made the stay in Montana memorable. I've been to Paris, Germany, San Francisco, Arizona, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Florida, Georgia and Califormia....my favorite place? Montana, you have it all!

Brent, I thought I would provide a reply as to all the action items since they have been fully addressed beyond my initial response to you. 1. Comforter- cleaned before the next guest arrived. I will replace on my next visit before the Summer Season starts. 2. Socks, dressers and dryer were referred to the Ptarmigan Village office and they spoke with Housekeeping and Facility Maintenance. 3. Broom- I will replace on my next visit. 4. TV in Master Bedroom- Although this might be a plus for some guests I am not sure about others. I once surveyed previous guests about Internet access and surprisingly received more no than yes votes. Some guests preferred to keep their spouses from work during vacation time. Now that we have Internet access from the Laundry area it is no longer an issue. Not sure if the same would apply to TV, but I will give it some thought. TBD! Thanks again for staying with us and I hope I have addressed your concerns and we look forward to having you stay with us again. Regards Will Eckert Stillwater River Lodge From: Brent Jones Sent: Sunday, February 21, 2010 8:49 AM To: will.eckert Subject: Ptarmigan Village Hey Will, We had a great time in Big Salmon, it is just as I remember it when we were kids. The week on Big Mountain was stellar as usual, the drive up the mountain is sure nice now that the road has been updated. It takes no time to get up to the hill at all. The hill wasn't even that busy, we found a few good deals down town. The pool and the hot tub are sure nice, we all had a good time there. The only issues we had were as follows, the comforter in the master bedroom smelled like body odor. We found dirty socks in the kids beds, as well as some socks under the beds in the kids room, the dressers were dusty inside and the industrial dryer in the laundry was not drying. A new broom is needed for sweeping around the fire place as the old one has bent bristles and does not work very well. Oh and a TV in the master bedroom would be great. All minor details, but as the owner we think you should be aware. The care basket was a big hit as well. Thank you. if you have aby questions or comments please do not hesitate. Brent J

Little things like toiletries, board games, staples like salt&pepper, sugar, oil, even laundry detergent were available. There was a wonderful welcoming gift of baked goods. Julie,I am glad that you had a good time. I also appreciate your feedback. As a matter of fact, I have just recently received similar feedback from another guest. On my trip to Whitefish the beds were something that I wanted to address. A previous comment I rec’d had been specific to the Twin bed so I had planned to change that mattress, which I did. More recently I rec’d feedback on the other bed so my plan is to replace on my next visit. I will also consider what can be done for guys who are taller than me. I know, from first hand experience how bad the couch can be. Those sleeping accommodations are not something that I include in my plan for the six (6) max guests I have in the condo. I already have the window treatments at my home and plan to install in both bedrooms on my next trip. This has not been brought up previously, but it is something I have wanted to address. Also, I have installed new shower rods in both bathrooms which bow out in the center and provide a little more elbow room. This has also been my own issue and hope future guests appreciate as much as I do. This is something I have grown to expect in any hotels that I stay in during my travels. Thanks again and I hope you will consider us for any future plans you have to visit Whitefish. Will

Hello Will, We did in fact enjoy our stay in your condo. I guess we did miss you by an hour or so. The only negative feedback I have is the bed in the master bedroom. I found it to be very uncomfortable (too hard), and way too small for my husband and I (he is 6'3") so he ended up sleeping upstairs on the pull out couch (which he reports was horribly uncomfortable). Perhaps you might want to put a larger bed in there. Also, you might want to get window treatments in the bedrooms that block a little more light. Just a suggestion. My boys had no complaints about sleeping in the bunk bed room. We enjoyed the cookies and bread--thank you! I felt bad we didn't finish it all. Thanks again, Julie Haymes

Great stay! Excellent place for our family of 5. Here's our summary: Kids likes: large hot tub, pool with wadding area, private lake access area and public beach, feeding squirrels on the deck, bunk beds and their own room. Our likes: large hot tub, pool with wadding area and nice clean facilities, private lake access area, enough room in condo, the shower head downstairs, cozy secluded village setting in beautiful wilderness, proximity to Big Mtn activities, the lake and public beach, downtown and Glacier Pk. Dislikes: The beds and only one key. Recommendations: New beds to match the rest of the nice upgrades. A canoe, paddle boat or some water craft at the private lake area would be outstanding! Overall, my family and I were very satisfied. Thanks Will for your hospitality!

Will, Our trip was great. The condo had everything we needed and the location was perfect. Skiing was good, and Whitefish was fun to hang out in. I hope we get to do it again next year! Thanks for sending the deposit refund. Cheer, Jae Evans

Hi Will - We very much enjoyed our stay in your condo! Everything was there that we needed & it was a comfortable, roomy, nicely decorated space. Thanks, too, for the baked goodies! They didn't last long with 3 teenagers along! Hope you get a chance to enjoy your condo soon! Take care, Susan

I had a very good stay at Ptarmigan Village, located at least 1/2 way up the mountain. Quiet area, even made it in there with a 2WD van during a snowy period. They obviously keep it plowed regularly. Look for the Bright Orange flag/marker for Ptarmigan Village, on your right, when driving up Big Mt. Road.

Hi Will and Werner, We very much enjoyed our (too short) stay in your condo. You have a very comfortable home away from home and we are appreciative that you shared it with us. The baked goods are a great way to say welcome! The Staykos (Alberta)
