It is not often in Waikiki vacation rentals that you can work with a property owner (Compared with an Off-Island Owner, Real Estate Agent or Managing Agent or a Lock Box) who lives on property and is involved daily in the day to day management of their vacation rental business.     • Gas/Electric BBQ Grill: Stainless steel unit in pool area for all owners/guests. Currently no charge. Must sign up on sheet in pool area.

    • Lanai: All of our condos are clean with good quality carpet/furniture.

    • Mountain View: We are a six story building with very limited views. The higher floors are generally brighter with the better limited views.
    • Golf Course View: Very limited view of Ala Wai Golf Course from only 2 of our 10 condos.
  • Communications
    • Telephone: Free unlimited local calls. Need calling card to make long distance calls other than 800 calls. In room voice mail.
    • WiFi (Wireless Internet): Sometimes available only in the pool area. Normally good signal in side units/directly facing poolarea. A free service. recent upgrades now gives a stronger signal.
  • Other Amenities
    • Great Location in the heart of Waikiki, but best yet is an owner of multiple units who has resided on property for 28 years and has been involved in Hotel Management (four year degree in Hotel Administration), had a Contractor's License and has done numerous total and complete professional renovations. Others speak highly of the cleanliness, comforts not found in other rentals and the location on a higher floor, away from street noise and knowledgeable owners (Pat and Mana) who are written up in many travel books as a favorite(only our condos are listed as "Frommer's favorite for the last 15+years) or a "Star" type of operation. Thousands of happy guests with many returning every year.

Why the Owner Chose Hawaiian King

Back in 1980 when the Hawaiian King Hotel was being converted to the Hawaiian King through my furniture business "Winston Company" I furnished all 66 of the condos for the developer. The location was ideal, the apt. style layout of each condo was unique and having full kitchens was an obvious advantage over the areas hotel rooms(no kitchens). As a licensed contractor in the 1980's I knew that these condos would take a $15,000-$20,000 renovation and be able to offer more than hotel rooms or other condos running twice or triple our rates. I knew this was a win/win situation for both owner and future guests. With "Hands On Involvement" something valuable could be offered that in the 1980's was a rare item and that was all the above put together: Hands on owner, living on property, buying and renovating units, offering upgraded condos at "bargain prices" and with this great ideal location helping thousands of tourist gain access to assist in making their vacation a better one.

Patrick Winston has a background in Hotel Administration (Graduate of Washington State University-1974)and also held a contractors license, both perfect training for accumulating condominiums, upgrading to the highest standards and offering excellent prices for potential guests looking for "AFFORDABLE QUALITY". Pat and his wife Mana who live on property handle cleaning, repairs and check-ins of the day to day operations themselves which is quite rare in today's Waikiki vacation rental market. I am a "HAND'S ON" person and the only original owner(since 1981) in this smaller condo/hotel who is 100% dedicated to assisting directly with each and every guest daily to help insure 'A QUALITY VACATION EXPERIENCE'. This is our main business and not a side business or part-time business run from off-island. In the Hotel Industry I would be called "OLD SCHOOL" where I value the guest more than my personal interests and the guest is #1.

    • This was our second stay with Pat and again it was a comfortable month long stay. The condos are close to many places we visit and we also enjoyed a glass of wine and a Guiness at the pool area near sunset.

    • I lived in Pat's "Honeymoon Suite" for a month when I first relocated here to Hawaii! The location was ideal and the suite was perfect! It was so convenient to everything and so cozy and cute that it was hard to leave! Pat and Mana were so nice and easy to deal with as well. I highly recommend them!

      We have been able to help over the years many people who are relocating to Honolulu and come in for a 2week-30 day or longer period. With free local phone calls, voice mail, Free Wi-Fi in their condo for their laptops, the kitchen and extra space it is a perfect in between stay where they are looking for permanent housing as compared to a smaller hotel room, usual telephone charges, no kitchen and little room if they need to store their suitcases and boxes. Sometimes guests have mailed to use before their arival boxes which we have stored awaiting their arrival. We also have the extra space should people bring a lot of boxes which you do not have in a studio or small hotel room. Lindsay was a perfect guest who was neat, tidy, showed respect for the condo and enjoyed her stay-a win/win for both of us.

    • In 2007 we were staying at a nearby hotel for our first visit to Waikiki. We read about Pat Winston in our travel guidebook and decided to try his condos on our next trip. In 2008 we e-mailed Pat. The whole booking process was simple and easy. When we arrived for our stay we were pleasantly surprised. Pat greeted us and helped us get settled. We stayed in this unit and loved it. We had twice the space that we had in the hotel and a full kitchen (not a kitchenette like some other condos) for much less than half the price of our hotel room. Everything you could ever need is in the unit from tissues to dishes to spices, coffee filters, even wine glasses and a corkscrew! Pat and Mana look after every detail. The unit is spotless. When we compared our unit to other condos our friends were renting in the area there was no comparison. They were all amazed. For us the location is fantastic. Just steps away from all our favorite places. The Hawaiian King is wonderful, BUT make sure it is a Pat Winston unit at the Hawaiian King. There is a difference. We went back again this year (2009) for a month and are planning an extended stay again in 2010. We have referred several of our friends to stay with him and they all have had a wonderful time. People ask us why don't we buy a time share and we say that we don't have to. We have Pat. Pat has become a member of our family. We truly cherish Pat and Mana and the friendships we have made with Pat's fellow vacationers. We look forward to many many more stays at our home away from home.

    • I have been to Hawaii 6 times on business and have stayed in Pat's condos each time. I originally found this condo recommended in Frommer's Guide and what a great discovery it was. The accomodations were terrific and the price was a great value. The condo was clean and bright and the location was ideal (steps from Kuhio). There were numerous renovations and upgrades. My favorite condo was the Hawaii 5-0 Suite with lots of memorabilia from the Jack Lord tv series. It was fun watching some of the old shows on the supplied tapes and TV/VCR combination with the photos, signed prints and tasteful decorations of a time period from yesteryear. It was totally cool. Pat Winston was a big help in suggesting local restaurants to eat in. Staying in Waikiki is like staying on the Strip in Las Vegas where I live. If you eat on the Strip you are going to pay high prices. But knowing where the locals go to eat as Pat pointed out to us saved us a lot of money and gave us a taste of the local flavors. Do not be fooled by his low prices. Compared to the many hotels and condos I have stayed in these condos are very underpriced and a 5 star value. I cannot imagine other condos in this price range offering the same quality and amenities and having an owner living right there doing the check in and being there should I have any questions or needs. I would highly recommend Pat Winston's condos as a good place to stay if you are looking for clean and comfortable surroundings at a very reasonable price.

A lot of work,time and money went into that condo, but most Hawaii travelers do not know it even exists.     • Many years ago I stayed in an inferior Hawaiian King rental pool property. While there I noticed the highly upgraded condo next to mine . One day I approached Pat, the owner and operator of Winston Waikiki Condos who I had heard many favorable comments about his business and clientele and knew he was written up in many famous travel books like Frommer's and Lonely Planet. He showed me his well furnished and appointed condos. I was pleased with the selection and prices lower than the inferior condo I didn't want to return to the following year so for my next stay I rented from him. This was over 20 years ago and the experience was excellent therefore I rented from him for many, many subsequent years. During two of these stays Pat accompanied me to the Big Island as my personal tour guide showing me the many attractions especially the star gazing on Mana Kea. Pat also he helped me with the impressive set-up and well furnished kitchen, thus saving me much stress as I no longer had to bring additional cooking and comfort items as they were already there. He was available to care for many of my needs, which enhanced the experience due to his personal touch and thoughtfulness. Therefore I recommend highly that you rent from Pat for your Hawaii vacation. For his reasonable rates I cannot imagine finding anything better-and best of all he lives right there on property. Therefore I give him high praise for his management

    • Nancy and I have had the great experience of staying at Pat Winston's Hawiian King Rentals two different times. Each time we found the rooms to be clean, comfortable and quiet. The rental is in a great location with shops and restaurants near by, and your are just a block away from the beach. Pat is very friendly and concerned to make sure our stay is as wonderful as possible. Pat recommended many fine restaurants and places to visit during our stay. While the rooms we stayed in don't have an ocean view, I would recommend staying for several reasons. The first is the quality vs price. I don't think you can beat the combination. Second, Pat's desire to make your stay in Hawaii one that you will remember with fondness for a long time. And, third because Pat will treat you like he would want to be treated if he were staying there. We actually got to know Pat quite well and ended up going out to dinner one evening. I know Nancy and I plan on staying with Pat and his Hawiian King Suites the next time we visit Hawaii and I recommend you do the same.

    • We have just returned home after spending 19 nights at a Pat Winston Condo. As this was our third stay we thought we knew what to expect. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the furniture on our lanai had been renewed, as had the furniture around the pool. Even the pool had been retiled. Mana helped us with all our queries, and was the perfect hostess. Our room (the European Suite) was home from home. The kitchen had every type of utensil that you would need, and there were even plastic lunchboxes, so that we could take a packed lunch on our days out. The bedroom was very comfortable and quiet, which allowed for a good nights sleep. As we are previous guests, our room rates were decreased, giving us excellent value for our money. We couldn't have had this type of luxery at this price if we had stayed in a hotel, or many of the other condos in the area. The Condo is situated in the heart of Waikiki, just a stroll from the International Market Place and beaches. We are very lucky to have found this property in 2004. We look forward to a return trip next year, and would wholeheartedly endorse a Pat Winston Condo for a value for money holiday in Paradise. Mahalo John & Lynn Williams

You may add this extra remark, in response to your comments you made after my review: ...As Pat knows, I certainly did my research before booking with him! I do such thorough research before visiting somewhere, I sometimes take the element of surprise out of my vacations! I end up knowing everything there is to know! Sometimes it’s not good, as the trip turns out to be anti-climatic...However, staying a month made me want to be SURE that I was making a good decision and I researched all I could about his condos beforehand!!! As Pat said, I did consider cheaper accommodation, as I am a single mother on a budget...but once I had driven Pat crazy with my oodles & oodles (okay, & oodles!) of questions, (which he always answered me in great detail about) I did decide to book with him for a LITTLE more money & the feeling that I had done the right thing. And, I absolutely did!!! If Pat will put my review up, you will see how happy I was!!! I can honestly say that my money was well spent on Pat’s condo!!! Now, I just wish I could say that about all the restaurants we chose to eat at! :-)

    • We stayed the month of July this year at one of Pat’s units. It was my first time booking a condo & I was a little nervous, as everyone knows, you don’t always get what you are told. Not so with Pat!!! Everything he said was exactly true. The units are exactly how they look on his website and I looked at 2 of his other units while I was there. The first thing you will notice when you enter the condo is how sparkling clean it is!!! Every detail of the units are well thought out. There was every dish, pot or pan & utensil you will ever need to complete any meal you think of and everything was of good quality. When I did cook, I was able to make meals that turned out well, where they won’t if you’re using cheap cookware. There were ample linens, pillows, towels, cleaning supplies, etc. There is nothing we looked for that was not in the unit. There was an ironing board & iron, vacuum, broom, garbage bags, etc. The units are very well thought out, with a lot of attention to little details that make visitors comfortable, and we were more than happy to spend time in there. The pool area is beautiful! The pool itself is wonderful! It is great spot for lazy days when you don’t feel like getting sand from the beach on you! The lounge chairs are high quality. There is an awesome BBQ you can use, and they were just in the process of getting a new one when we were leaving. Even though the front desk staff does not manage Pat’s units, they were also great to talk to, and offered any help you needed without making you feel like you weren’t one of “their” guests. Staying here, was the real “Aloha”!!! The location was great! In five minutes you were on the beach in front of the Royal Hawaiian hotel. Straight down Dukes Lane & you’re there. You are 2 minutes from the Food Pantry to get groceries & there is every kind of restaurant you could want minutes from the condo, all easy to walk to on Kuhio. I highly recommend Pat’s units, and it was a real pleasure to stay there. Pat is very professional, and you can certainly trust what he tells you about his units.
