Sea food can be found around the island and in local restaurants such as King Sea Food in Luquillo only 10 minutes from the Villa is great. Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1984
I am a Minister and Counselor and have written a some books such as "Relax Into Success" and "21 Ways to live a stress free life in only 21 days" -- I have lived in PR for over 10 years--My wife was born here and we also have a home in San Juan. I am Minister for the "Center for Creative Living"- and I am also a professional photographer and my area of expertise is helping people with spiritual awakening.
Why the Owner Chose Rio Grande
We love Rio Mar because it is close to Old San Juan and right next door to the Rainforest. Our kids grew up taking horseback lessons in the Rio Mar area and enjoying the wonderful beaches, golfing, tennis, and more.----If I were to choose all over again--I would still choose Rio Mar for our second home.
The Unique Benefits of this Villa
The nice thing about Rio Mar is that the grounds are very beautiful and people love the ambiance. The beaches are pristine and the water aquamarine and the staff at the hotel are very nice. I love to walk and I can walk to the hotel, the owners pool, even up into the rainforest where I take lots of photographs. We are only 30 minutes from Old San Juan where there is night life and Villa Flora makes a great home base from which to take day trips to the caverns, cabo rojo lighthouse, the dry forest, the bioluinesent bays and more.

This property is awesomely located and provides ultimate flexibility. You could simply stay on the premises, playing golf and/or enjoying the endless beach, pools, casino and several fine restaurants. Dining is excellent and fairly expensive. The grounds of the hotel and the property itself are completely secure and exquisitely landscaped. Venturing into nearby communities offer a much more eclectic and affordable mix of dining and cultural experiences. Also supermarkets if you wish to take advantage of the fully equipped kitchen. Another must-do is a visit to the nearby El Yunque rain forest. (It is listed as the 'Caribbean National Forest' on Google Maps) This natural wonder is not to be missed. There are many hiking trails and water features if that is your thing, but even just driving through this flower-bedecked paradise would be worthwhile. This property works for different groups of people. It would be ideal for 2 or three couples as each could have their own bedroom and bath.(and a steal at the weekly rate) It could work for families or extended families just as well. Think of it as Hawaii at half the price with some Latin culture thrown in. One last thing: This place is far more tastefully decorated than a typical vacation rental. The owners have clearly made an effort to make this place a cut above the expectations. Highly recommended.

Bugs and more bugs!!

We first arrived at this villa in the evening and the place was really dirty. The next morning we also noticed many ants outside and inside the property. We contacted Robert and to his credit he promptly brought a housekeeper and supposedly an exterminator(we had left for the day)The villa was cleaner but the bugs were still coming! Any time there was any food out the ants swarmed. One crumb on the floor brought an army of ants within a minute! Robert kept trying to blame us saying that we probably left food and crumbs around but this was not the case at all-we had to keep every stitch of food in ziploc bags and we swept the floors 3 times a day. Plus we kept wiping down the counter in the kitchen with Fantastic yet the ants still came.He then claimed to have brought the exterminator again but still no help. While feeding my 8 month old a jar of baby food the ants came all over the jar-really disgusting!I dont even want to talk about the mouse droppings, roaches and beetle that were also there. The worst part was that Robert kept saying that no one ever complained and that he never had a problem with ants. A couple of days before the end of our stay,we read the manual which had the rules and helpful hints for the villa. Lo and behold it said "Do not leave any sweets out or you will be attacked by ants." So obviously he knew there was this problem but failed to admit it. At this point we decided to leave the villa and stay at the hotel for the last 2 nights. I wish we left earlier but the villa was paid for unfortunately. I took photos of all the bugs including one day where hundreds came pouring out of the wall by the stairs! Aside from the bugs I also want to mention the villa is very old and run-down. The photos have not been updated in years. It is also down 2 flights of stairs so it's very difficult to bring all your luggage down. Do not stay at this property unless your idea of a vacation is living with ants all over the place!

I just returned from Puerto Rico (in fact, my girlfriend and her kids are still there!). We loved the villa. Although it was a bit on the older side, the accomodations were clean and comfortable. The location was perfect for everything that we wanted to do - we could practicallay walk to the rain forest (look for the Juan Diego swimming area -less crowded than La Mina). And just 30 minutes from kayaking in the bioluminescent bay. You do need a car if you want to drive down to the owner's pool/beach area and parking is a little tricky. You will find mainly locals which is a nice change from most touristy type hotels. There is place to buy drinks and the best hamburgers right on the beach. Very relaxing.

We enjoyed this property very much. A lovely villa on part of the Wyndam Rio Mar Resort's golf course section. Within easy access of El Yunque rain forest, Loquillo and Fajardo beach areas, and about 1 hour from downtown San Juan. The villas are separate from the hotel resort, but you can use a separate villa pool right beside the beach and can walk to or park in the hotel to eat at its many restaurants. The villa itself is lovely, three large bedrooms with multiple beds and large family room, four bathrooms, kitchen and laundry, very cute surroundings. Highly recommend.

"Villa Flora is a little bit of paradise. We have spent a month there for the past two years, and look forward to going back again next year. The villa has all the comforts of home, and when the doors are open and the breeze flows through it is delightful. It is beautifully furnished and spacious enough to accommodate several family members quite comfortably. With the wonderful beach, pools, golf, rain forest and local adventures like bike riding in the Pinones we always have plenty to do. Villa Flora is a great place!" Angela and Peter Buckley

We had a great time at the villa Flora. The Villa was peaceful and relaxing. The villa was clean and large and with the windows and door open the breeze was great. Paul was friendly and professional and met us on out 1st day and answered any questions we had. The beach was less than 5 minutes away and was beautiful. El Yunque (rain forest) is just minutes away and Old San Juan is less than 1 hour away (traffic permitting). We had a great time there and would recommend it base on our experience.

Paul and the acomidations were fantastic. We had six adults sharing the villa for a week with no problems. At least none Paul didn't take care of right away. It was extremely relaxing and peaceful. Special note to divers. Winter is best in South-West. Summer is best in North-East.

We rented the Villa Flora for two weeks over the Christmas holidays for two families of five. There were enough beds for the adults and with the bunks and futons we slept 10 comfortably. The Villa is clean and comfortable and allowed us to do most of our own cooking with a fully equipped kitchen and gas grill which we used most every day. With all of the doors and windows open you can enjoy days and evenings inside or out with the ocean breeze. Each night we'd sit on the balconies and enjoy the great weather and view of the golf course. The hotel beach is great but you do need a car or shuttle ride to get over there, the walk is about 20 minutes. Golfing is expensive but world class on the two resort courses. Just watch out you don't step on an iguana, they are every where and add a unique experience you don't get at other golf resorts. The location of the Rio Mar is perfect for an extended stay in PR. The rainforest is very close and you can take the Bio Bay tours from Fajardo ( a must ) as well as the island ferries. We went to Culebra for a day and the beach is really great. Shopping at the factory outlet mall and Super Walmart is only 15 minutes away and San Juan is 35 minutes so excursions for supplies or sightseeing is easy. We recommend the Villa Flora for it's great location and reasonable rates. We loved the island of Puerto Rico.

The Villa Flora has it all! It's big, it's clean and so peaceful. The location is perfect for everything we wanted to do, snorkling, hiking, beaching, kayaking, and eating. Because the Villa Flora is located on a resort, snorkling and other water sports can be done at the resort dive shop. Or you can go the resort beach and rent kayaks and bogie boards. Another option is to drive to the coastal town of Fajardo and get on boats to take you snorkeling, take the bio-bay kayak trip or regular kayak trips. The bio-bay kayak is a must see if you are going to Puerto Rico, the illuminating water is only see in a few places in the world! It is a night kayak and it was fantastic! From the Fajardo airport we flew to the island of Culebra, it sounds extravagant but the fair was really cheap. There is also a ferry that leaves from Fajardo to the island for couple of bucks. Flamenco Beach on the Island of Culebra is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Snorkling is best at Rosario beach which is a short walk from Flamenco Beach. We snorkeled to our hearts content and there were only a few other people on the beach. Don't miss the El Yunque rainforest, it is the only rainforest in the U.S. and it's only a 5 minute drive from the Villa. There is a wonderful visitor center and maps of the trails in the rainforest ~ beautiful waterfalls and so much folige. The resort has wonderful places to eat, we walked to the Iguana Bar at the golf club house for many meals and cocktails. Also try the La Parrilla on Hwy 3 to get great local cuisine. Old San Juan is a beautiful, romantic, and historical city. The forts Cristobol and El Morro are something that you must see to believe ~ the walls are 18 feet thick! Each fort has a great visitor center and the history of the forts are expained in a 15 minute video. They are incredible but wear comfortable shoes because they are big and you don't want to miss any of the fabulous views of the surrounding city and ocean. There are outlet shops as well as great restuarants and boutiques in Old San Juan. We were lucky enough to be there during an artist fair in one of the many plazas. The vendors were wonderful and the live music was a great treat. We did our part to help the economy! All of wanted to bring home a little something home to remind us of our wonderful trip until we can return again. Puerto Rico really is the Isla del encanto (island of enchantment)!
