Enjoy fresh mountain air and peaceful atmosphere at cozy Bear Tree Cabin! Cute as a button, it's nestled on the margin of a forest and gets its nickname from an unusual natural formation on a tree in the yard that looks like a bear is hugging it.
Less than a mile from the Watauga River, the cabin is situated near a rural farming neighborhood. Fishing, canoeing or swimming in the Watauga River is less than a mile away. Bring your mountain bike and enjoy the gentle grade of the Watauga River Road ... or for a little more adventure, let our resident mountain bike expert recommend a nearby trail that fits your abilities ... And if road biking is your passion, find out why Lance Armstrong said of our area "...I'd say it's the best area for training in the whole of the United States." (Cycle Sport June 1998).
Shopping at the historic Mast General Store is only 3 miles away.
Restaurants of all types are in nearby Banner Elk, Boone and Blowing Rock as well as a few in the village of Valle Crucis itself. Hiking trails are available onsite or within a short drive.
And during the winter months ... Three ski resorts are within a 30 to 40 min. drive. Cross country skiing onsite is available if snow conditions are right. Snow tubing is an option for the non-skier at some ski resorts nearby. At the end of the day, come "home" to a relaxing hot tub or a cozy woodstove fire.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Owner Jim Henson built "Bear Tree Cabin" in 2006 on the edge of his 250-acre farm. Jim grows Christmas trees on part of the farm, but the vast majority of his land is woodlands and he has donated a conservation easement on more than half of his land to the Blue Ridge Conservancy. The 21-hole disc golf course was completed in 2008. An extensive network of mountain bike trails is not far away. If you call for more info you will likely speak with Jim's assistant, Angela (a veritable wealth of knowledge).

We had the pleasure of spending this past weekend @Beartree cabin. My boyfriend who was seeing it for the first time must have said "WOW THIS IS AWESOME!" 6 times as I toured him around the property. We relaxed by the cozy fire, sipped champagne in the hot tub and slept in til 9 in the soft downstairs bed. We cooked our first dinner in the spacious kitchen and dined out at one of the area's many wonderful restaurants the second. The kitchen was so clean I came home feeling guilty and spent today scrubbing my own house! We were both taken aback by the quiet and privacy. The property owner reminded us that the upstairs bed was the king but we enjoyed using the downstairs as a cozy romantic retreat. Next time we'll bring the kids and friends as there is plenty of room! We loved it but don't recommend it to anyone else because we want it to stay available FOR US! haha

Beautifully appointed, very clean and well maintained cabin surrounded by woods. River only a short hike away. Very roomy; photos do not do it justice. Loved the hot tub. Invited several family members for a visit who live in the area and all were impressed. Angela, the owner, was very friendly and accomodating.

This cabin well exceeded my expectations. It was wonderful coming in and not having to worry about going out to the store to get the basics, and even some not so basic items. The kitchen was well stocked. It was wonderful having nicer appliances and good pots and pans, way more than you would expect from a rental. The location was perfect for the wedding we were attending in Valle Crucis, though it was hard for us to leave the cabin (and the hot tub). My only complaint was that we couldn't stay a few more nights!

My young daughters enjoyed the garden setting, sleeping loft, and hot tub. Safe, secure, and peaceful, this cabin has a storybook setting but close enough to nearby towns for the basics. Clean and furnished with quality things, it felt like an upscale resort with no noise or crowds.

This is a wonderful cottage nestled amongst giant rhododendron on a quiet, secluded hillside. Beautiful hardwoods, tile bathroom, great appliances, comfy furniture, high end ceiling fans in every room. All rooms look professionally decorated. Very nice Pella double-hung windows (very easy to open and close). No complaints whatsoever. You will not be disappointed if you stay here. This is a very, very nice cabin. The disc golf course is one of the best ever with some great mountain views on the Christmas tree farm. Hot tub was perfect! Gas grill worked like a champ! Great front and back porch! We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Boone. Also, location is great if you plan on running around to Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, and Boone.
Owner response: We hope you and your friends can come stay again!

My husband and I went to Bear Tree Cabin for a weekend getaway and we fell in love with this place. First of all, the cabin is very easy to get to and VERY convenient to Blowing Rock and Boone. The cabin is very clean and neat and has everything you need to relax. We spent Friday night in Blowing Rock and then the rest of the weekend was spent just enjoying the cabin, grilling out and the hot tub. This cabin is perfect for a couple's weekend or a small family get-away. Valle Crucis is a VERY beautiful place and we would love to go again!
Owner response:Thanks, Bonnie! We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you can return soon! Angela & Jim

What a lovely, peaceful, secluded and safe place. It was just what I needed to rest my soul. Grandchildren loved the freedom of exploring the woods. Spotless without formality. Everything we needed was readily available in the cabin. There was easy access to the restaurants, Linville caverns and Grandfather mountain. We had a marvelous time.

We just returned from several days at Bear Creek Cabin. This was the most comfortable, quiet and relaxed I've been in a long time. My husband and I have already recommended this cabin to friends, relatives and co-workers. The landscaping is so lush and we enjoyed sitting on the porch reading and having a cocktail. Our 2 year old son had a blast hiking around the property and checking out the Bear Tree and salamanders. The Valle Crucis Park behind the Mast is so lush and perfect for a walk or a picnic. Angela and Jim have done a great job outfitting the property. The hot tub was so relaxing. Everything was clean and very well maintained. There is a nice selection of dvd's both up and downstairs. We are cooks and found the kitchen to have everything we needed. Each night we grilled on the gas grill and enjoyed sitting outside at the picnic table. We will definitely return---hopefully very soon.

We rented the cabin for two nights. I am normally very picky person on where we stay. This cabin exceeded my expectations. We have 3 children and had plenty of room. It was very well kept and private. There were so many things that impressed us about this place. We will return here again and this will be at the top of my list. Angela was a delight to work with and always very prompt.
