Midsummer Night's Dream Cottage

Why the Owner Chose Healdsburg
We wanted a place that encouraged creativity and friendship. Our location in the wine country is perfect. The surrounding area is lovely and we are blessed to have access to the greatest food and wine, and the good cheer those brings with them. We needed a place we could go with our dear Scottish Deerhound, Maurice, who was a gentle presence and a connoisseur of cheese.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
We love the silence. We love the birds. We love being less than 2 miles from Healdsburg Plaza, but tucked away in a secluded spot. This is the best place for cycling, wine tasting, trying incredible food, unique shopping, sleeping or reading a book, or talking late into the night with friends around the fireplace.
Top wineries are located less than 5 minutes away along Dry Creek Road. Most do not require reservations to visit tasting rooms. These are small, family owned enterprises with very high quality wines, not the mega-sized corporate-owned wineries found in Napa. Dry Creek specializes in Zinfandel, but there is everything. Drive or cycle.
Dry Creek Road ends at this truly gorgeous huge park next to the reservoir. Perfect picnicking location. Great for hiking. Swim in Lake Sonoma. Boat rentals. Dogs OK on leash. About 15 minutes from the Cottage down Dry Creek Road. Stop at all the great wineries along the way.
Country life at its best! Right downtown Healdsburg, free swimming in the river. The water is clean and warm in the summertime. The sandy beach is nice for sunbathing. Special shallow kids area and lifeguard on duty. Fabulous too for serious swimmers. The adjacent grassy park has restrooms, barbecues. City charges for parking - find free parking if you don't mind walking a little. Across the road from the kayak rental place, right at Veterans Memorial Bridge.
Famous wine area. Its heaven to drive or cycle along scenic Alexander Valley road. Visit fab wineries. Get a gourmet snack at Jim Town store. Take road to Calistoga (40 min drive) for mineral water/mud bath. Now you're in Napa...lots to see, do, eat over there! This is the PERFECT way to spend a day.
Quaint & charming downtown. An idyllic square surrounded by outstanding restaurants, tasting rooms, and shops. The square is a grassy park. Kids love playing in the fountain. Grab coffee & sweets from the bakery or a book from the (two!) bookstores and sit on the benches. Music 1x weekly in the evenings during summer. Not touristy.
Owner's Map of Healdsburg
We traveled quite a lot and found that we liked to stay in beautiful homey places with personality. That's what we have tried to create at Midsummer Night's Dream Cottage. Its our retreat, and we want others to enjoy it, too. The Cottage gave us the calm space to be creative, and its where we developed a unique music software that is being launched as an internet company in 2011.

This is a wonderful and peaceful place; very tastefully furnished and comfortable. We hated to leave! And Healdsburg is a beautiful town, completely devoid of garishness. We will certainly return! Thank you Risa & Chris; we loved the Tchaikovsky.

We had a lovely stay at the cottage. The deck was wonderful, refreshing and relaxing. The trees surrounding the deck are beautiful. One feels surrounded by nature, yet close to town. Best of both worlds. What a great place to stay and enjoy the wine country. We would definitely return again and hope it will be soon.

The cottage itself was delightful, but what really impressed us was how simple Risa made the booking and check-in and check-out process. We've rented houses all over the United States, Mexico and Europe and no one has come close to making it so easy. Give this place a try. You'll be glad you did.

The cottage is in a very quite, peaceful and serene location yet just minutes from the town in one direction and minutes from the vineyards in the other direction. We especially liked the fact that the cottage did not feel like a sterile rental but rather an occupied home that had just been lent out to a close friend for a few days. Spending time in the cozy living room or the wonderful outside deck area were equally attractive options. We would highly recommend this property to all of our friends and relatives.

I took my mother and best friend (we are from South America)for a 4 days get away to this enchanted place. We were so happy and relaxed, it felt like we were in an other country, one of the thing that I loved the most, was the fact that there were not chain stores or cafes around, and the people were very sweet and polite. It has such a safe feeling too. You can walk at any time and leave your front door open and no one will break in.The house was very comfortable and authentic provençal, the terrace was quite and sublimed. I would love to go back and stay with my husband next time. Thank you Risa and Chris for your hospitality.
