The Villa Maroulas (Authorised Licence by Grec Ministry of Tourism) :
The privately owned villa, which is a listed building, has a magnificent sea-view, and is situated on a hillside just 6 km from Rethymnon, in the historic village of Maroulas.
It is just 3km from some of the best beaches on the North Coast of the island.
The village has been classified as a ‘heritage’ site.
Most of the buildings date back to at least the Venetian era and no new construction work can be carried out without the cooperation of the archaeological department.
It is, however, a living, breathing community, too!
The village has two tavernas and two kafeneions.
There is a bus connection to Rethymnon, twice a day.
For visitors arriving by plane, the village is conveniently situated : Heraklion airport is just 80 km away, and Hania airport is even closer , just 60km.
Our sympathetically restored 540 m2 villa in the village of Maroulas can accommodate up to eleven people.
Historically, the building has had various functions : At one point, part of the building used to be a Venetian farm house.
During the Turkish occupation an olive press was added.
It has now been completely renovated to create a holiday villa with a difference...!
The villa can be rented all year round.
The villa has a private swimming pool, and welcomes domestic pets.
You can park your car in the village square.
Your host provides you with a welcome that befits guests in one of the more exclusive hotels in the world. He is also happy to be your personal guide , helping you to make the most of discovering the wonderful island that is Crete.
He will be delighted to give you suggestions for excursions, to tell you about good local restaurants, and to point you in the direction of the local night-life...
Outside areas :
There is plenty of outdoor space within the grounds of the villa.
You have the large courtyard with the swimming pool and the smaller ‘Jacuzzi’ courtyard.
But you also have a massive roof terrace on the first floor of the building, which has loungers, chairs, tables, in fact all the garden furniture one could possibly want.
From here you have a superb view of the village, the sea and the surrounding countryside.
The entrance :
The front door opens onto an inner courtyard (400 m2.)
High walls offer peace and privacy, yet you are still in the heart of the village.
You find a swimming pool, surrounded by potted plants, flowers and elegant garden furniture.
This is the place to sunbathe, unwind and relax, or bask in the shade of a lemon tree.…..
Living area :
A conservatory style entrance leads you into the main living area.
The design is open-plan : You will find a huge lounge with a stunning white marble floor, a kitchen and dining area, a vaulted television room, and hi-tech office space.
The kitchen is fully equipped - dishwasher, microwave, oven etc.
Techno facilities here include : PC, WIFI, giant screen (3.5m x 3.5m), overhead projector managed by computer, a telephone, fax, television, video tape recorder, hi-fi, CD-DVD...
The dining area is spacious and there is also a children’s play space.
The living area leads out to a small inner courtyard which houses a Jacuzzi which is big enough for at least seven people.
Your additional fifth bedroom is also located in this part of the building.
Sleeping arrangements :
The villa has five bedrooms, all with air conditioning for the summer - and central heating for the winter. We provide you with all bed linen and hand towels, and we also provide a daily (aside from Sundays) fully comprehensive domestic cleaning service.
Bedrooms :
Bedroom 1: (on the ground floor) Has an independent entrance. The room has a double bed, a computer work-space, and an en-suite bathroom with bath, toilet and hair dryer.
Bedroom 2: (on the first floor) Has a great view of the sea, and an original fireplace! It also has a double bed, and en-suite bathroom with a bath, toilet and a hair dryer.
Bedroom 3: (also on the first floor) This room has a double bed and shares a bathroom with Bedroom 4.
Bedroom 4: (on the first floor) Has bunk beds.and a double bed This shares a bathroom with Bedroom 3 – the bathroom has a bath, a toilet and a hair dryer.

Thank you so much to Yorghy ! You made a dream of our hollydays especilally on this sailing boat trip you organised for us . Every couple had his own privacy and, if we didn't want to cook, we had a choice of good traditional tavernas in the village. One week was not enough to visit every secret place of Crete, so we will definitely come back !

We organised a family gathering of 10 people for my birthday in this absolutely wonderfull villa. The house is full equiped so we found all the facilities we needed as well as the service of a housekeeper who washed our laundry for free ! The environement is beautifull and the owner helped us to discover the magical island of Crete. We warmely recommend this villa to everyone who wants to visit Crete !

This is truly a dream home. We were 10 people (with 4 children) and we spent two weeks there and really did not want to leave ! The pool and the jacuzzi are ideal for playing with our kids, and beaches are a short drive away. The home cinema was fantastic to watching film in the evening The kitchen was full equiped, and we appreciate all of the wonderful ammenities in this historic place Yorghy is so generous, he gives us so many details about the island and the shop around Thanks so much. You made our stay very comfortable and relaxing and interesting. We really enjoyed our stay in this very nice villa

My family and I visited this fabulous location in December of 2009. It was probably one of the best accommodations I have had in the world, and I have traveled extensively. The place has all of the modern amenities, and even a private wine cellar with very reasonably priced wines. You can see the ocean from the top of the building, it has a lemon tree (yes, I made lemonade), and is absolutely gorgeous. What you see in the pictures does not really do this place justice because it is so much better and the caretaker is wonderful. The village is very quaint and I would recommend exploring it and going to the tavern. All the villagers will want to toast with a glass of raki, which is a strong liquor. The location of this place is great if you want to stay on the western portion of the island, but if you want to go to the east or so, be expected to be driving for a couple of hours. Also, be prepared for the driving as there are a lot of hills, mountains, and many times there are no guard rails. However, I found the roads well maintained, very easy to drive on, and all the signs were usually in both English and Greek so no problem there. Also, I was slightly apprehensive about the fact that you had to pay through money order/bank transfer. However, there should be no worries about this because it actually worked out very well. Another thing I did not know but later found out is that the Greek government regulates these places extensively, which should put any of your concerns to ease. Honestly, I cannot think of a better place for a vacation on the island of Crete. An absolute fantastic place and a true testament to the dedication of the owner. A must visit!
