My wife and I arrived Apr. 26/13 for ten days for our anniversary. Rod's travelling arrangement tips as well as his "Isla" tips were right on. Made the trip easy to get around and hit many great restaurants and bars. Being able to eat breakfast, lunch and the odd dinner in was very convenient. Hitting Hidalgo Street, which is the main avenue for restaurants, bars and shops was a very enjoyable experience with many different characters to be seen up and Street. The beach sand was incredibly white and never hot during the day while the ocean water was crystal blue and warm. Walking the beach at all times of the day and night was a soothing experience (stopping for the occassional Corona didn't hurt either. All in all a very awesome location and many, many thanks to Rod for all his help and followup before, during and after the trip. A true "10"

We love Isla Mujeres! Everything about it. We have been coming here for 30+ years and things just don't change. Of course some of the buildings are different but the island itself has remained the quaint place we went the first time. We have stayed all over the island but Rod's place is our favorite. It is on the best part of the beach and Rod is go easy to work with. If you need to know something Rod can tell you what you need. The water is beautiful, the air is clean and the people are charming. It's the best place in the world to go to really relax. Rod's condo is so comfortable. We do have a time share on the island and never use it. His place is like home and he furnishes anything you could want from an ice chest to sun screen. Actually I think the sun screen was left over from the last visitors but really it is fully equipped. We called for this trip 3 days before we left and although his unit was full he was able to find us another one. You couldn't find an easier owner to work with. So if you have doubts don't. You will not be let down by renting this place from Rod. It rocks!!!!

We (my husband, myself, and two kids ages 11 and 9) just returned from an amazing trip to Ixchel and Isla Mujeres! Although Rod's unit was already booked, he quickly helped us find another unit! He even e-mailed us numerous photos of the actual unit we would be renting that were very detailed and up-to-date. The condo/hotel resort was great: all of the perks of a hotel, but the space of a condo! Everything was very clean (I am a neat freak) and well-maintained! Ixchel has the best location on the island! Playa Norte is the most beautiful stretch of calmer, crystal clear water: our kids played for hours! Great restaurants dot the way and the hotel itself goes out of its way to provide you with anything you might need combat service, to chair and umbrella service, lunch, etc! We loved having Hidalgo (the main steet) just outside our door full of life! Shopping and restaurants are everywhere but all within the culture of the quaint fishing village! Locals are all very welcoming and the vibe is very laid back and fun! The whole island is extremely family friendly! We had amazing breakfasts in town (French Bistro recommended by Rod was our favorite) and fabulous dinners (Rolandis, Mamacitas, Mama Rosas all also recommended by Rod)! Rod emailed us a few pages of extremely helpful travel hints! We found it to be our guide book throughout our trip (sorry Frommers)! He helped us figure out transportation to/from the airport, what to expect, where to visit and how to get there, where to eat, helpful locals, and much more! Rod sent us an email before we left to make sure everything was in order and to see if we had any questions. He emailed us during our trip just to check-in and make sure everything was as expected. He also emailed us after! Great customer service! Not only will we return to Ixchel, but we will for sure book through Rod!

We were very impressed with this Condo! The vrbo's website description of the condo location was accurate and the photos were up-to-date. The property was clean and well-maintained and we slept great on the beds - probably because of the foam pads. We loved having the separate rooms with a living area and kitchen. We were able to open the enormous sliding doors in the living room and hear and smell the ocean, etc. The balcony was also awesome, but if we were to go again we would book a room with a balcony that got morning sun. Not only was our condo clean and in a good location, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The head concierge, Mauricio, gave us tons of information about what was available to do on the island and he was very sincere and honest about those options. We enjoyed playing in the ocean, snorkeling, and exploring the town. The food was delicious (though more expensive than we anticipated - we were a family of 4, usually shared three meals because the portions were so big, and paid between $50-$85 on lunches and dinners.) We found a good market, though, and so just bought cereal, etc. for breakfasts which was a nice way to balance out the expense of the other meals. The town was festive and felt very safe and we had tons of fun shopping and bargaining with the store owners. The beaches were breathtakingly beautiful and we enjoyed sitting in the white sand in the chairs provided by the hotel. We drove a golf cart around the island and went to the Turtle Farm, Hacienda Mundaca (not worth our time and money), and ate one of our best lunches above the Captain Dolche Musuem (although the Museum itself was extremely musty and moldy - again, save your money). Our favorite restaurants were Mamacita's, Angelo's, and The French Bistro.

What a great vacation! This is one time where I don’t think the photos do the condo justice, it was better than the pics! We rented both units as our daughters 16 and 20 came with us and our niece 22 and nephew 17 stayed for part of the time. The condo was beautifully decorated with plenty of storage and when all six of us were there it never felt crowed. Having a microwave, daily maid service, coffee maker, Wi-Fi and five gallons of water for each room was so convenient. My overall impression was that someone has taken the time to really think about the small details to make your vacation exceptional. The amenities at the condo are great, the food at the restaurant I thought was the best on the North Beach for lunch (guacamole can’t be beat), I also tried the on property spa where you can get a massage inside or out on the beach, when we went to the beach there were plenty of towels, lounge chairs and umbrellas. The location is perfect for many reasons, the beach is the best on the island with sunsets that can be watched from the balcony and it was so close to many of what we considered off the beaten path treasures of the island. Just a block or two away was the food market where the locals go and you can get fresh fruit, kitchen staples and just baked tortillas. A nightly visit to the pastry jeep at the corner of Hidalgo and Lopez Mateos was a favorite for the next morning’s breakfast. The kids loved the ham and cheese pastry with sugar sprinkled on top and the sweet potato empanadas. Los Abuelos, a small restaurant that seats maybe 10 run by a family is less than a block away from the hotel on Guerrero and served authentic Mexican food that was delicious. They went out of their way to let us taste different Mexican beverages and home cooked food. We also got the best price on renting two golf carts from a small store that books tours on the corner of Guerrero and Lopez Mateos. It’s so rare when you are traveling to have the convenience of all that within blocks of where you are staying. Our last comment, buy a map of Isla Mujeres online for $10 from “Map Chick” at Can-Do maps and travel guides it was great to have as it showed all the restaurants, shops and activities. Rod, thanks so much for all your suggestions, we used Cancun Valet and they were always right there waiting for us. We’ll see you again soon!

This was our 4th year to the island and had never yet stayed at Ixchel! I emailed Rod even though it said he was booked and he made it happen! He thought we may have to move rooms for the last couple days of our trip, which was fine with us, but when we arrived they were able to let us stay in one room the whole time! We were also on the ground floor with sliding doors that were steps to the beach and pool! It was a great location, Rod was SUPER EASY to work with! I would recommend to anyone! We will be back!

We just returned from spending two weeks at Ixchel Beach. We have stayed there several times and have always loved it. All you have to do is walk out past the pool and you are on one of the prettiest beaches you will ever see. This time we made our reservations through Rod. His unit wasn't available for the two week period we wanted but he made all the arrangements for another unit. The first week we were there we got to meet Rod and his wife Renee. We had a great time visiting with them on the beach and they invited us up to see their unit. Of all the units we have rented theirs is the nicest we have been in and they are even planning on more improvements this Fall. We have already made reservations with Rod to rent his condo for two weeks in November.

We recently had the pleasure of spending a week @ Isla Mujeres. What a wonderful experience! The view is breathtaking and the condos are very clean and nicely furnished. We loved the balcony and spent lots of time on the balcony with our morning coffee and evening cocktails. The beach is wonderful with the powery white sand! The beach service is great and makes the trip even more relaxing. It's a definite repeat trip for the 4 of us!

We just got back from a fantastic girls getaway to Rod Dixon's condo at Ixchel. We had a one bedroom for a party of three and it was perfect. Booking with Rod was a breeze. Although we were unable to rent Rod's unit since he and his lovely family were on the island. He set us up in 206 which was lovely. Rod has a "Isla Tips" sheet which had recommendations for trnasfers, dining and the bicycle luggage guy. Our trip could not have been any better...except if we stayed longer which Rod told us we needed to do! Hats off to Rod! See ya next year buddy! Love ya, Donna, Debbie and Audrey

I went to Isla with my mom and sister as a girls' trip and we fell in love. It was the perfect break from reality. Rod's place at Hotel Ixchel was great. Right on the beach AND Hidalgo Street, the main drag of restaurants and shops. The hotel was a great price and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Rod was helpful and easy to work with, as well. We plan to come back at least once a year!!

Me and my husband, son and Father in Law stayed at Rod's condo for 8 glorious days of rest and relaxation. The condo was wonderful, the staff and everybody we came in contact with were great! Rod gives great suggestions for a drama-free stay. We were not disappointed at all except it was cloudy most of the time. But, that's just the time of year. I would diffently recommend staying at Rod's properties, he is a joy to work with. We will be back. Thanks so much for sharing your paradise with us.

We have traveled Mexico and stayed at many Owner Villas & Condos over the years. First, let me say that Rob was absolutely a dream to work with. He was prompt with all communications and so helpful with every detail. He provides an excellent "Isla To Do List" that has excellent places to visit and eat. His condo exceeded our expectations! You cannot ask for a better location for your stay. The resort staff became our family for the week and went out of their way to make our stay the best! It was our first trip to Isla and I guarantee, It will not be our last.

I rented Rod Dixon’s 1 bedroom condo on Aug 30 – Sept 4 and this unit is very comfortable, clean and very well equipped! The obvious view is the centerpiece of the unit overlooking the pool and beach. I originally thought that I really needed to stay on the very end, closer to the beach, but some of those units have palm tree tops as their views. Rod will send you a list of favorites, that you can rely on throughout your visit. Even though most of the cable is in Spanish, you do get great reception and the Dixon’s have a good inventory of movies. I also hooked up to comp wireless internet and watch netflix movies on my laptop. The staff at Ixchel is great and they will do everything possible to make sure your stay goes as anticipated. Thank you Rod for your great accommodations and advise of island treasures. I will be back to visit!

We’ve traveled all over the world and this was probably one of the best vacations we’ve had. Your condo is perfect, the beach was great, the food was amazing and the people were extremely nice. We’ve been to various points in Mexico and always stayed at all inclusive locations. This was so much better because you actually get to experience what it’s like to live on the island. Minus the beer, it was probably the healthiest vacation we’ve been on. We walked extensively daily and indulged in the fresh seafood. My 10 year old son is ready to go back today. He was in Heaven. I think he ate lobster everyday. We’ve told everyone about the island and your condo. Everyone wants to go. I’m sure we will be back and use your facilities. Back to reality? Bluntly put….it sucks. I’m still in Isla mode. It definitely made me realize (once again), that I need to slow down and not let daily issues bother me. Oh yeah….I think they use the same weather service we do. 60% chance of rain daily…and not a drop fell from the sky (1 night of rain is all we had). You must eat the salted fish at Amigos on Hidalgo. You have to order it 24 hours in advance so they will know what to purchase from the fishermen. It's one of the best dishes I'ver ever eaten. My wife and I are now huge fans of fish cheek. Because there are so many places to visit on this planet, my family makes it a point to never visit a location twice. We are breaking the rule for Isla and your condo. Thanks again. I’m positive I’ll be in contact (as will as friends and neighbors).

This was our second visit to Isla Mujeres. Last year we came alone and this year decided to bring our grown children. We rented both rooms 405 & 406 and it was perfect for the five of us. The rooms are very spacious and the kitchen perfect for the items we picked up at the grocery store. The balcony was by far my favorite for viewing the beach, sunset, and enjoying my morning coffee! Rod provided excellent tips on getting to the island, things to do, and places to eat. We really appreciated the coolers, which were used often on our many trips to the beach and on our golf cart tour of the entire island. Isla Mujeres is beautiful and the location of the condos on North Beach provides the perfect location to enjoy the best parts of the island. Hidalgo is a short walk with an excellent selection of restaurants. Our favorite is Qubano's. Would definitely recommend renting from Rod!

Although I did not stay at Rod's property, I went through him to book a penthouse at Ixchel. I am so glad that I did, in fact, going forward I would rather book through Rod than the actual condo owner as he provided such great and personal service it was like having a personal concierge. He provided prompt responses to all inquiries and checked in the day before we left, halfway through the trip and once I got back via email to ensure everything was up to expectations. He was patient with multiple change of plans, my bank putting a stop to the charge (fraud protection) and last minute barrage of questions. I look forward to future bookings and interactions with Rod, he was fantastic to work with.

We had heard great reviews about Isla Mujeres and decided to book our anniversary trip to the island in June 2012. Needless to say, we were NOT disappointed! It was everything we had hoped it would be and even went above and beyond our expectations. The owners of the condo were great to work with and we benefited so much from all the information that they had to offer. We would highly recommend that you book from them and stay at their condo, Ixchel . . . you won't have any regrets! Their condo is so warm and inviting, the beach and pool area are absolutely beautiful, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and the ocean view from their condo is to die for! We can't wait to go back! We especially love that it is not commercialized like Cancun. Everyone is very laid back and friendly. We chose to swim with the dolphins (and manatees & sea lions), check out the turtle farm with all the sea turtles and iguanas, took a catamaran sunset cruise around the island, and just kicked back and relaxed at the pool and beach. It was fun eating out at the different cafes and restaurants . . . so many to choose from! And because the island is only 6 miles long, you can become "regulars" after only a couple of days! So, if you want to getaway from those "touristy places" and have a nice, relaxing vacation on a quiet island in the Caribbean, try Isla Mujeres, Mexico. We give it 5 stars! And, you'll LOVE working with the owners!

My wife and I just returned home from our trip to Isla. This island never disappoints. The locals are all very friendly. The food is wonderful and we never had a bad meal. Rod gave us great info before we arrived and this really helps when you get there. This condo is beautiful and the staff will attend to your every need. You are on the beach and within walking distance of downtown. The only bad or should I say sad time is when you have to leave this paradise. I highly recommend contacting Rod for a vacation of a lifetime. I promise you will go back.

In early May of 2012 I traveled with some girlfriends to Isla. I travel with this group annually and we have been to resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico. Over the years we have developed a pretty hefty list of “must haves” when it comes to finding a destination and a resort, and usually have to give up a few things. This trip to Isla was the first time we really were able to have it all. I initially contacted Rod Dixon to inquire about his 2 bedroom condo at Ixchel. His unit was already booked for our desired week but Rod was able to hook us up with another similar unit that suited our needs perfectly. Initially I had a lot of questions and Rod answered all of my emails right away, and provided lots of valuable information and tips on getting to and around the island, restaurants, money exchange, etc. We opted to go with Rod’s recommendation for ground transportation from Cancun airport to the ferry dock, and our travel day was seamless. Rod even checked in with us via email during the week to ensure we were happy and enjoying ourselves……..which we definitely were! The condo we stayed in was nicely decorated, with high-end finishes. Our particular unit included daily housekeeping, though I’m not sure they all have that arrangement so be sure to ask if that’s important to you. Plenty of filtered water is provided. Beds were comfortable. Staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. Lounge chairs and palapas were plentiful for Ixchel guests (can’t speak for high season). Ixchel condos sit on a most beautiful beach, with calm, shallow water that literally draws you in. Some nights we didn’t leave the beach until we watched the sun set right into the sea. The downtown “strip” is literally right outside the back door and there are so many fabulous restaurants, it’s hard to decide where to eat next. Every meal we had was excellent. We rented a golf cart for a 24 hour period and took in the beauty of the whole island, but we all agreed that Playa Norte was the place for us in terms of location. In our years of travel together, our group has never returned to a particular destination. Before we left Isla in May, we had already decided that next year’s choice had already been made, and we’ll be contacting Rod again and spending another fantastic week on Playa Norte next Spring.

My husband and I just returned from another week in paradise; Isla never disappoints! The weather was warm and sunny the entire week we were there. This was our 6th stay on Isla and our 2nd at Ixchel. The condo was beautiful and comfortable, with all the amenities you could think of wanting or needing. We traveled with friends of ours, who were "Isla Virgins". I am happy to report that they loved Isla and were already discussing when to come back, they totally "got" the whole Isla mindset. The view from the condo was exceptional, the balcony great for having a few cocktails and watching the sunset. The staff at Ixchel was very friendly and accomodating and anything we asked for we received almost immediately. We made good use of the small cooler Rod has in the condo to bring beers down to the beach. Everywhere we had dinner was delicious - our favorites were Asia Caribe and Olivia's, but the meals at Qubana and Rolandi's were also very good. Had numerous buckets of beer at Jax, and also a great breakfast on the roof top deck. Great mojitos at Fayne's. Also enjoyed breakfast at the French Bistro, M&J Casuela and Rooster Cafe. Had awesome margaritas twice at The Soggy Peso, it was a lot of fun - had the chicken wings, but unfortunately missed the Sunday ribs - next time!. Rod was an excellent host; he was very responsive when we were booking the condo, and also provided many good tips and suggestions for places to eat on Isla and things to do. We will definitely be returning to Isla and highly recommend that you contact Rod and stay at the Ixchel. You will not be disappointed.

FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY...FROM THE ACCOMODATIONS, TO THE STAFF, TO THE FOOD AND DRINK, TO THE BEACH. BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND A BETTER PLACE FOR A QUIET RELAXING HOLIDAY. THE CONDO WAS EXACTLY AS RON DESCRIBED AND WAS LIKE OUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME, RIGHT ON THE WATER TO BOOT. THE HOTEL STAFF WERE SECOND TO NONE, WILLING TO HELP WITH ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAD, AND ALWAYS WITH A SMILE. WHILE BASKING IN THE SUN, THE WAITERS AT KALAK WOULD CATER TO YOUR EVERY NEED. ARTURO WAS "THE MAN" FOR US...TEACHING US LOTS OF SPANISH, AS WELL AS KEEPING US "HYDRATED." RIGHT OUTSIDE THE MAIN DOORS WAS HIDALGO STREET, THE "MAIN DRAG" SO TO SPEAK, WHERE ALL THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE IS. RESTAURANTS, TOUR GUIDES, STORE FRONTS...IT'S ALL RIGHT THERE. YOU'VE GOT TO EXPERIENCE THIS AT LEAST ONCE. A BIT FRANTIC THE FIRST TIME YOU WALK DOWN THE STREET, BUT AGAIN, THE LOCALS ARE ALL HAPPY AND JUST TRYING TO MAKE THEIR LIVING. A TRIP ON THE GOLF CARTS IS A MUST JUST TO SEE HOW GORGEOUS THE ENTIRE ISLAND IS. YOU ALOS GET TO SEE HOW SPOILED WE ARE LIVING WHERE WE DO. SOME OF THE AREAS MAKE YOU WANT TO GET OUT AND GIVE ALL YOUR MONEY TO THE FAMILIES, BUT AGAIN, YOU DON'T SEE ANY SAD FACES. THEY GREET YOU WITH A SMILE AND EVEN IF THEY LANGUAGE BARRIER IS THERE, HAND GESTURES AND SMILES WORK PERFECTLY. ONCE YOU'VE BEEN TO ISLA ONCE IT'LL INSTANTLY BECOME THE PLACE YOU WANT TO RETURN TO EVERY HOLIDAY. JUST DON'T TELL ANYONE ABOUT IT...WE WANT TO KEEP IT OUR LITTLE SECRET PARADISE.

Isla was fantastic!! We had a great, relaxing time. The weather was perfect and the Ixchel was really nice. The condo was fantastic, very clean and well decorated. We are already talking about when we can go back. We loved it that much! The weather and beaches are great, but there are lots of nice beaches in the Caribbean. The people of Isla are so nice and welcoming. That makes the difference. The people at the desk were great, a couple of the waiters on the beach were really sweet, everyone seemed genuinely happy to have us on the island. :) We also went out on a boat with Ariel (don't remember his last name) but we caught a huge Mahi-Mahi, snorkeled, and had lunch at Playa Tiburon. What an awesome experience!!

We didn't have the opportunity to stay in Rod's unit, but he hooked us up and served as our personal concierge anyway!! What a tremendous resource/help - thanks Rod!!! We really loved Ixcel and the spaciousness of the 305 and 306 unit (building 2) - it was a really beautifully decorated and comfortable unit!! We have two boys (8 and 10 years old) and it was awesome that they had their room with two beds and we had our own room, so Ixchel is the perfect condo with hotel amenities! We loved being able to relax and see the beach, ocean and pool, from our balcony. The town is a block away, so incredibly convenient. We rented a golf cart for a day and we never needed a car or taxi! We loved that the beach chairs and umbrellas were included and the sunset vantage point from the beach is the best!! The ice was fine to drink and the boys had their multiple strawberry and coconut smoothies every day.(My husband and I enjoyed our drinks too!). It was our first trip to Isla and our boys' first trip to Mexico and we felt very safe and would recommend to others and friends and look forward to going back because there are so many restaurants that we weren't able to fit in during the week! Lots of variety and choices and the fresh fish was the best. We'll miss our daily "Ixchel Ceviche" and Guac served to us on the beach! :) We never had problem getting beach chairs or into restaurants and we were there during spring break! The island is beautiful, laid back, friendly and definitely has the flavor of Mexico! There is excellent snorkeling, both walking distance from the hotel (along the beach) and by the light house via a boat. If it weren't for Rod, I wouldn't have had the comfort level of taking the boys when we don't speak any Spanish! It was a wonderful vacation!!!

This was our third visit to Isla and third stay at Ixchel. Rod is always so helpful when making the reservation, checking in when you arrive and checking in to see how the stay went after you arrive home. We did not stay in this particular unit as we choose to stay on the first floor because we have a small child. The condo's are always well kept, public areas are clean and safe. Love that they have added a spa and massage tables on the beach! Restaurants and shopping are within easy walking distance. Great place to stay and we would not consider staying anywhere else on the island! Thanks Rod.

This was our first stay at Ixchel and we will be back! The location is perfect, the grounds are beautiful and the people there are wonderful. I would not hesitate to stay in any condo in this complex. Thank you Rod!

We didn't stay in this exact unit, but Rod helped up book one floor lower. So, I can't speak to the specific unit, but Ixchel overall was great. The staff is friendly and the unit was very clean. We were there in a very peak time and often had the pool to ourselves. It was no problem to get chairs on the beach. One night, there was a private party using the palapa on the beach. It looked like a family reunion, and they wrapped up by 10:30. My only caution is that the pool is a uniform depth and it was at least 4.5' deep which was over 2 of my kids' heads. So, plan accordingly if you have younger kids. We appreciated Rod's tips for getting to Isla and had a great vacation!

Thanks, Rod and Renee, for our second stay in your gorgeous condo at Ixchel. The location is perfect and Rod's tips, as always, were spot on from USA Transfers for airport to ferry dock transfers to Ciro's for golf cart rentals. Your condo is outfitted with everything we needed and we even watched one of your DVD movies one night. Rod, you were so helpful in finding us a second condo for our kids and grandson along with making sure they had a porta crib. The front desk staff at Ixchel was so helpful and friendly with any questions we had. We enjoyed coffee on the balcony in the mornings as we watched Playa Norte come alive and margaritas on the balcony at night. It is so nice to be able to walk to all the restaurants, the market, and the plaza from your condo. We were able to get cochinita pibil at the market on Sunday morning (go early before it's gone) and along with the fresh tortillas from the market we had a tasty lunch at the condo. The roast chicken place on Hidalgo near Ixchel also provided us with another convenient and delicious meal at our condo. However, after that, we had to try some of the many wonderful restaurants on Isla. Lola Valentina, La Lomita, Rolandi's, French Bistro, the loncheria at the market, Picus just to name a few were great. After a week in paradise it was so hard to come back to wind, rain, and cold weather when we landed in Dallas. We hope to return soon to Isla and to your Ixchel condo. Thanks for your hospitality, Rod and Renee!!!

Without a doubt, Ixchel has one of the best locations on the island, with beautiful Playa Norte at your front door and the indulgences of el Centro at your back door. We loved being able to walk right out of the condo to camp out on the beach for the day and then being able to stroll over to el Centro for the seemingly impossible task of deciding where to eat dinner. Ixchel is also within a very short walking distance of Ciro’s to rent a cart, or to the Mercado for cochinita pibil, or the ferry if you need to get to the mainland…you get my point, it’s within walking distance of just about everything. Rod arranged for us to stay in a unit in Phase II and I have absolutely no complaints. The room was clean and spacious, with a beautiful view. The pictures on the internet do no justice to the view from the balconies. We rented a golf cart on three separate occasions, so we scoured the entire island quite thoroughly and I wouldn’t think of staying anywhere but Ixchel. We stopped by for a visit of the top rated hotel on tripadvisor and I couldn't imagine staying there relative to Ixchel. I’d much rather be within walking distance of everything rather than having to rent a cart or take a cab to get anywhere. Rod was able to secure the last available room in the hotel for the dates that we were staying there, as the hotel was completely booked while we were there and we only booked the trip a month in advance. Rod also gave us helpful tips for our time on the island and recommended a company for the airport transfers, which worked out perfectly. If you’re going to Isla, I highly recommend Ixchel and if you’re staying at Ixchel, save yourself some trouble and contact Rod to find out what’s available. Thanks Rod!

This was our first trip to the island. Ixchel was better than we expected – so well located. As far as the overall trip to Isla Mujeres, in a word – “Hooked”. We will be back. The people, the weather, the amenities, and particularly the food were exceptional. Thank you for putting this together for us. I want to check the calendar of events for Isla this year and plan a return trip. Didn’t get to go deep sea fishing because everything was booked for the Island Time Fishing Festival. Maybe next time. All of your notes and personal recommendations of things to do and places to eat were very helpful. Thanks again – Mike and Gayle.

We just returned from almost two weeks at Ixchel and I wish I was still there! We were not able to stay in Rod's unit but he was so gracious about helping us gain accommodations elsewhere at Ixchel! I hope that we can stay at his place one of these visits. My husband and I have been traveling to St. John and the British Virgin Islands since 1992 and love it there. However, although skeptical at first, we have discovered a new paradise. Isla is amazing! It is cheaper then the Caribbean, easier to get to, the food is better, the people are more friendly, it is clean, safe and laid back. Plenty to do....or not. Staying at Ixchel was perfect. Great location! We walked everywhere. We especially enjoyed our large balcony with the spectacular view. Rod is awesome! He made sure our trip went smoothly. He knows the island and is full of great information. We will be back!

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Ixchel. The place was right on the beach, the staff was friendly and helpful, there were plenty of beach chairs set up for us everyday, and the pool was clean and inviting. The view from the front entrance to our room could be a picture on a postcard. We stayed at Rod's place for 9 days and will come back again! Our room exceeded our expectations. The beds were comfortable, there was plenty of room, a coffee maker, and a refridgerator. Rod even provided us a cooler, so we could bring our own drinks to the beach. This is the place you find and end up coming back to every year. You can walk down the block and you are in the downtown area with so many choices of resturants, shops, bars that you will never come close to trying them all. We ate out 3 times a day or more and were never disapointed. A few of our favorite resturants were: Picus, Mama Rosa, Olivia, Zama, Sardinia Smile (italian), Mogagua (breakfast), Manana (breakfast). Rod was very helpful with getting us info on ground transfers from the airport directly to Port Juarez, so we could take the ferry to the island. He also had recommedations on things to do, golf cart rentals, etc. The golf cart rental is a must. We rented it for 24 hours ($50) and toured the entire island. After using it all day and part of the night, we were able to take it in the morning for breakfast on the South side of the island. The hotel arranged to golf cart to be delivered to us and picked up from us at the hotel. There are places to stay on the South side of the island, but it seemed everyone who rented there always ended up on the North Side of the island where we were because that is where the nicest beach is and the downtown area. I ordered a map of the island online by just googling Isla Mujeres. It costs $10, and detailed all of the restuarants, bars, sites to see, golf and bike rental places, etc. It was very helpful. I recommend visting Punta Sur on the South side when you rent the golf cart. It costs $3 per person and is definitely worth it. You will get some great photos. We aren't big on taking a lot of pictures, but ended up with 179 photos of our trip. Safety was never a concern for us on the island. Our stay at Rod's condo was better than any all inclusive resort we stayed at. It gives you the freedom to go out and explore in a safe enviroment and eat where you want for less than what you would pay at an all inclusive.

We rented a condo through Rod for a recent trip to Isla in December 2011. We were very happy with our choice! The condo was lovely and comfortable. The beach was gorgeous, the water was fun, the area was wonderful to explore and enjoy. Rod was very helpful before we went down, sending us information to help us out, as it was our first time to travel to the area. The staff at Ixchel Beach Hotel were helpful as well. While the island is slow-paced, we were never bored. We loved walking around the town area south of the hotel, eating in wonderful restaurants, poking in and out of stores. We also explored the larger island with a golf cart which was lots of fun. Thank you Rod for taking care of us. We are looking forward to our return to this special place!

For all the people that have reservations about traveling to Mexico like we did, you are missing out on an experience of a lifetime. This was my familys first trip out of the US. We contacted Rod and booked for October 15th to the 22nd. Rod helped us with transportation to and from the airport and gave us many options for our stay at Ixchel on Isla Mujeres. We were picked up at Cancun airport in our own van by a gentleman holding a sign with our name on it. Departure worked the same way. The transition to and from the island was seemless. Our stay on the island was absolutely perfect. Rods condo was understated. We had everything we needed and then some. We overlooked the beach and pool with breath taking sunsets. We checked out other beaches and condos on the island and Rods is second to none. We spent the week shopping, snorkeling, swimming and just sitting around relaxing. The food varieties are amazing and the locals go out of their way to accomodate you. I have to say that this by far was the best vacation we have ever experienced! Thanks Rod for a great time! We will be back!

Thank you Rod & Renee for a great girl's getaway! Our week from October 8-15, 2011 was so enjoyable for the 4 of us girls & your beautiful condo was perfect for us. We loved it! Our Cancun Valet rep was waiting for us at the airport & soon we were on the ferry. We took Rod's suggestion & let the bicycle guy take our luggage to the condo as we strolled behind checking out the sights. So easy! This was our first time staying in a condo instead of an all-inclusive resort, and we discovered what fun it can be. After stocking up at the Super Express, we were soon making margaritas & enjoying them on the huge balcony. We never tired of the views & spectacular sunsets from the 4th floor balcony! The beach & sea was so gorgeous, you can walk out in the sea for what seems like eternity & the water is still only chest high & so clear! Really incredible & more beautiful than many of the caribbean islands I've been to. The staff at Ixchel were always right there to set up chairs & umbrellas for us, be sure to tip them a bit as it's hard work digging those holes for the umbrellas! We had delicious lunches & drinks brought to our loungers from Kalak, the pool side restaurant/bar. Angel, the bartender was great, very funny & nice & spoke great english. Prices were very reasonable & alot of the sandwiches on the menu can be shared. Delicious guac, chips & pico too! Be sure to ask for the daily drink specials, usually 2x90 pesos. Some days we took our own drinks to the pool & beach, but it sure was nice to order some & be waited on. We rented a golf cart one day from Ciro's & explored the beautiful island, stopping at the turtle farm, the south end park with beautiful views, Soggy Peso (a la Margaritaville), and Villa la Bella, where the "beer is so cold it will make your teeth hurt!". The fresh pina coladas there are the best! Everything is so convenient to the condo, it makes exploring so easy, the fabulous restaurants & shops are only a block or so away. Our favorite restaurants were Rolandi's (pizza & pasta), Bally Hoo (fish taco & mango margarita), Brisas Grill, French Bistro, Qubano (tostons), M& J Cazuela (omg!) and Sancocho's (good but cheap tacos). The staff at Ixchel were so nice & helpful, the place is immaculate & in the perfect location. To sum it up, you just need to book with Rod for your own amazing week in paradise!

My girlfriend and I booked a week at Rod's Condo at Ixchel on Isla Mujeres for the first week of October, 2011. We couldn't possibly have been more pleased with every aspect of the trip. Booking, transfers, check-in and our 7 night stay went smooth as silk. The condo was wonderful. Great bed, tv, books, DVDs, kitchen and maid service was beyond reproach. The staff at Ixchel was attentive and friendly. They bring you drinks on the beach! What more is there in life than that? We had our own chairs on the beach and an umbrella. A balcony with a sunset view over the beach everynight. Several food, shopping and beverage options within steps of the property. The recommedations from Rod made the trip far easier as we avoided the "traps". One day on a golf cart and one day snorkeling and the rest spent in a beach chair having our every want satisfied. The dollar goes a long way on Isla. It's easy to get lost in the Mexican way of life. Time crept by slowly. The drinks flows and the siestas were plentiful. There was no better property on the island for the money or convenience. A return trip is a must. Safety was never a concern and everyone on the island was friendly. A wonderful adventure and supremely relaxing.

I stayed at Rod's condo from 9/9 to 9/16/2011. This was my 4th time visiting Isla but my first time staying at Ixchel. What a great propoerty and great unit. The location of Ixchel cannot be beat, sits on the best beach and it is a short walk to Hildago!!! This trip was a girls trip and we felt 100% safe and taken care of at Ixchel. Rod's unit is nicely decorated and has everything you need. He was easy and good to work with. I cannot see myself staying elsewhere. Thank you!!!!!!!

My family had a great time while we stayed in Rod's condo from June 22-29, 2011. The rooms were fabulous, clean, and well kept. The staff at Ixchel were very friendly and helpful. Rod was very helpful in providing information on what to do/where to go on the island and for transportation to/and from the Cancun airport. I didn't worry about anything, and everything went very well for our family (there were 5 of us). We all enjoyed going into town and eating at different places. The island was very safe for my boys to walk around by themselves (ages 11 - 18). I would definitely come back again and have already recommended this place to our friends.

My husband just called to thank me AGAIN for arranging the trip. He said he has never come back from a vacation more rested and happy. That's a huge compliment, because this is the first time we've travelled outside of driving distance with all our kids! There is not one thing I would change about our week. We snorkeled, we rented the golf cart, we ate the "tix" fish on the beach, we enjoyed the turtle farm, and the many great restaurants on the island. I've been to beaches in Greece, Cozumel, Florida, Puerto Vallarta, Cali, etc, and NONE have come close to the white sand, turquoise perfection of the beaches on Isla. Day and night! We loved swimming at sunset, coming out of the ocean and hopping into the pool, which at that time felt like a hot tub. I also loved that there was nothing "yucky" in the water -- jelly fish, sharks -- you get the idea. It was glorious. The staff at Ixchel is fabulous. Beyond courteous and professional, they went out of their way to make us feel welcome and accommodated each and every day. Giovanni was especially helpful in helping us in a unique situation. The condo was beautiful in the pictures, but even nicer in reality. We loved how the housekeeping staff gave our room a new look every day with towel creations on the bed and different presentations of the bedding. CancunValet was exceptional, as well. It can be nerve-wracking booking something like this online, handing someone you really don't know your credit card information. I can assure you all that there is no need to feel apprehensive, as Rod is trustworthy, attentive to emails and very focused on delivering a great vacation experience. Jen Fischer

My husband, son and I stayed at Ixchel condos for a week in April. We had a fabulous time. The condos themselves were beautiful and well maintained. With anything we needed, we found the staff to be more than accommodating. Also, it was so nice to have the pool and little bar area so accessible as well as the beach within steps. Many thanks to Rod for seamlessly booking the condo, providing helpful traveler tips and even following up to see whether everything went OK. We plan on going back soon and look forward to staying at Ixchel condos again.
