Listing was not as pictured on VRBO furniture has been moved room was very tight for 4 people when couch was pulled out couldn't watch TV from couch because of position. condo had everything needed. some things in kitchen were falling apart. biggest disappintment was nothing in unit explaining anything....ie towels, bedding, rules of condo bldg, Owner should have a small book explaining things. IE someone in our group got sick.....we called the management number - only info avail in unit - for new towels. she explained that was not part of the unit agreement but brought us some anyway. THanks. Unit was great in location, property is beautiful and staff was very accomdating. Will stay again!!!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

This is a great location and unit for those that like to be in the action. Just a couple steps from Whaler's Village makes it easy to stay here if you don't want to rent a car. The unit was comfortable and adequate for us, but it could use some maintenance work(the bathroom needs wall/paint repair and one of the ceiling panels was missing so you got a nice view of the mechanics up there) and maybe some updates to kitchen equipment like pans and knives. The lanai has a view to the ocean and up the mountains to. While you are right next to the Hula Grill and their chillers it wasn't too bad noise wise. The staff was helpful and really friendly.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We strive for perfection and take our guest comments seriously. We will replace kitchen pots/pans and knives and look into other issues noted immediately. Thank you for your comment.

The best thing about the Whaler is the location. Being able to walk next door to shops and 2 great restaurants is a huge plus. The Whaler is pretty basic accomodations that is great for people who just want a place to crash and maybe prepare a few meals there to offset the cost of eating out. The pictures of the unit are pretty accurate. Everything was fine overall, just a bit basic. The kitchen including the pots, pans, plates, silverware, etc. was adequate, but a touch dated and worn. Good enough to cook some eggs and make coffee. The main living area small, but we didn't use besides the bed, which was fine. The laina had a nice view, but furniture dated. Kind of a drag since we spent 90% of our time there when we were in the room. The carpet was really dirty and the bathroom showed some signs of wear. The fitness room was in the other tower and was somewhat small and had old equipment. I only used it once. Pool area kind of small for the number it served. Check in/out fine. I think the problem is trying to sell this place as "luxury" and "elegant". That is a stretch. Overall, I would stay here again if the price was right.Recommended for: Age 55+.
Owner response: Thank for your feedback. We will replace kitchen pots/pans and knives immediately and will look into any other areas for potential improvement. Thank you for your comment.

I've been going to Maui for years with my family and the Whaler is by far the best place to stay - great location, easy parking, amenities, etc. This studio unit is a great property and we enjoyed our stay. PROS: location on the beach, clean, had very good amenities in room and kitchen, free beach towels daily, reasonably priced, owner accommodated early check in, nice size kitchen, easy parking CONS: this unit is adjacent to Whaler Village/Hula Grill. We were woken every morning before 8am (some mornings as early as 630am) by delivery trucks reversing, idling, and running their hydraulic lift gates to make deliveries to the merchants at the Village. When there weren't delivery trucks, the air conditioning units at Whaler Village were so loud that we were unable to enjoy a meal or any time on our balcony. The noise or music from Hula Grill never bothered us. The unit had a broken towel bar that fell down whenever you took your bath towel off, and a broken handle on the kitchen drawer. The bed was really worn, but we managed to sleep pretty well. The beach chairs were very uncomfortable, but it was nice to have them. Really appreciated the insulated coolers and well-supplied kitchen. Overall this is a great rental unit...apparently any on that side of the tower hear all those noises. My aunt stayed in the other tower and said she was woken up early every day by garbage trucks. So I guess if you stay at the Whaler just don't plan on sleeping in! Who wants to sleep in Maui anyway!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.

This was a wonderful unit especially for the price. We had no problems and owners even left a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. Unit was clean and comfortable and even though some people say not to stay in tower one facing whalers village we heard very little noise and unit is right next to laundry and elevators. It also had nice view of ocean and you can't beat location in Maui. The owners responded to all questions and front desk is open 24/7. The whaler is right on beach. Just know that you will pay for parking and one night garage was full and we had to park in employee parking. Will stay here again.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

My husband and I stayed in this unit for 1 week and for the most part we were Ok with the accomodations since it was only 1 week. But I musrt say the king size mattress was extremely uncomfortable, since it dipped down on both sides as if very overweight people had stayed in it one too many times. We couldn't flip the mattresses because it isn't a mattress on the other side, just a box spring material; so we woke up every morning with a sore back. We are althletic people in great shape so we had no reason to be so sore except for the mattress. The unit does need remodeling in the bathroom due to peeling paint and an exposed ceiling grid that displayed wiring etc...The kitchen was stocked OK but the knives were too dull to cut fruit and the pots and pans were real cheap. I would recommend buying more decent pans, knives and have more blankets and pillows available besides just the 4 very large and hard pillows. All in all the Whaler is a nice place (the pool was so crowded though) with excellent scuba & snorkling so close at Black Rock and restaurants within walking distance, and shopping for everyone; however I would rather pay more money for a weekly rental that had a better bed and interior features that were more "luxury" as it was described in the ad. I would not call this ocean view studio "luxury" or elegant by any stretch of the imagination. It was simply a clean & average studio that did not go out of the way to impress or make me want to re-rent this unit.Recommended for: Families with young children.
Owner response: Although this was the first time anyone had made a comment regarding the mattress, we do take our guests feedback seriously and have replaced the mattress with a new lush king size pillow-top mattress. Thanks for your feedback.

My wife and I just returned from 10 days staying in unit # 465. Our second trip to Maui and our first stay at the Whaler. This studio is very clean and is exactly as advertised plus the bed was super comfortable. Laleh (the owner) is really nice and is quick to respond to any phone or email messages. Check in and check out was a breeze with no surprises. Parking is $12 per day but worth it since it is a secure, covered garage and we were able to leave the top off of the Jeep all week. The condo has everything that you need to feel right at home including fully equipped kitchen, all linens and towels, laundry facility across the hall and 5 community BBQs on the property. The location is fantastic with Whaler's Village next door and close to beach and Black Rock for snorkeling. The pool is really nice with lots of chairs available and a big hot tub with a perfect view of sunset. The staff is friendly, laid back and very helpfull. I love this place and will definitely be returning next year. Thanks Laleh!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

The room was exactly what was described, and the property was beautiful. The owner was very helpful, as I had some questions and they were promptly answered and were accurate. I would recommend this property to others. The Whalers is in a very convenient location, as we could walk for lunch, dinner right next door!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, people with disabilities, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

The condo was as pictured, very clean, new and filled with amenities. I felt like I was at home and not at a hotel. The location is just perfect. Walk out the main door and you are seconds from the pool, tennis, golf, sandy beach or ocean. Stroll down the walking path for a mile of entertainment, spa, shopping, dining and relaxation. Traveling by car just a short distance and enjoy, horseback riding, zip lining, wineries, volcano craters, lavender fields, lush and beautiful landscape, historical locations, waterfalls on hiking trails, cave tours and many private locations. The weather cannot be beat. Perfect everyday. If it rains-it is just sprinkles for few minutes and then Wow! rainbows!-the day is still absolutely enjoyable. I have stayed at this condo on several occasions, and highly recommend it.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
