My husband and I loved our week at the Holmes Harbor cabin. We found it immaculate, comfortable and cozy with many artistic touches. The owner was accommodating and provided excellent communications before, during and after our stay. The cabin's location on nearly 2 acres features stunning views of the water and sunsets, plus a peaceful, private setting that's hard to replicate on Whidbey Island. We enjoyed fishing, beachcombing, Farmer's Markets, fresh salmon, halibut and crabcakes; homemade pies; and postcard scenery everywhere we went. I don't think you can beat the price/value and amenities of this very charming cabin.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My husband and I (and dog, Teddy) had a wonderful, relaxing stay. Julia was so generous with her time that we truly felt at home. The cottage is everything it says--quiet, warm, cozy and the view is wonderful. I really appreciated the thoughtfulness that Julia has put into stocking the kitchen. She seems to know what you fill probably forget to bring. The weather proved warm so we even got a chance to sit outside. We live in the woods so it was a treat to be able to have the expansive view of the water and the sunsets--wow! Best of all, Teddy was warmly greeted by Timber and Ketchum. It is great to have a place where Teddy can run and play with other dogs and be safe. So a big thank you to Julia and the boys. We have found a second home and will be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I stayed here for a long weekend with my pups. We all loved it! The house is very clean and the dogs had lots of outdoor space to romp. The sunsets were amazing to watch as we sat out on the porch, sipping wine and reading. It was a quiet area as well to watch the bunnies and eagles doing their thing. The owner, whose house is nearby, was very welcoming and gave great tips of where to go on the island - especially with dogs. We will definitely be back!!Did you find this review helpful? We were looking for a place to lay back and relax. The cottage provided that and more. Super cozy, nicely decorated, new appliances including double door fridge, dishwasher, and washer and dryer. Short drive to great historic locations, great places to bike ride and walk the beach. We found reasonable places for great lunches, but always headed back to the super view at he cottage to barbeque dinner. Julia, the owner is a great host, low key and no hassles what so ever. The four legged owners, Ketchum and Timber, were a delight, welcoming and well behaved. A great place to stay, we'll be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This place is amazing! The pictures do NOT do it justice. It was more than we expected. We enjoyed evening sunsets on the deck and coffee in the morning on the deck as well. The view of the water is breathtaking. We brough our dog "Jake" he is a sheppard/dobi mix that is blind and he had so much room to roam in the home without running into things and the fenced side yard was PERFECT when we needed him to be safe outside. There were so many things we could have done around Whidbey but we found it most enjoyable just sitting on the deck staring out at the water, watching the bunnies in the yard and listening to all the birds. It is so quiet and peaceful, a much needed break from the city noise. We did venture to Maxwelton Beach with our dog and it was great! If you want a nice getaway that is close enough to get to but makes you feel a million miles away.... Rent this place! The owner Julia is amazing and so easy to deal with if you need anything. We give this an "A" for quaint escape, privacy and relaxation. A must see.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

It was so nice to stay in a cottage that provided the peace one seeks on Whidbey Island. The mature trees, the unobstruced ocean view, and tucked-away setting combine to give you that highly desirable "old Whidbey" feeling. This authentic Whidbey cabin also has modern conviences. You have high speed internet and favorite TV channels, and you can run to the store in just minutes. This is also such a dog-friendly place! This cabin is a very comfortable place to vacation with your dog. This will undoubedly be appreciated by all dog owners who can't bear to leave their friends at home! I am so pleased to have found this gem of a vacation place on Whidbey Island. The owner, Julia Higgins, is a pleasure to work with. She is always directly available by phone. Our week-long stay was one of the best vacations we've had. I highly recommend it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

For two 60+ couples, this was great. We were able to read, drink coffee, watch the sun rise. the sun set, count birds, and cruise around the island to find the best little hide-away tourist jaunts and stores, before coming back home to kick back. The next door doggie Cooper and his owner were so friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautiful and provided all and more than we had hoped for. The island has so much quaint kitch to catch if you can find it. . . home grown green eggs, Mukilteo Coffee, etc. . good luck! The views were beyond belief, the details of the home were extremely comfortable and all things considered this would be a first choice for us to return to. Thanks Julie for a wonderful stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I have rented a number of places on Whidbey throughout the years but this cabin really is a special place. Beautiful piece of property and a charming cabin with everything you need to have a comfortable stay. The owner is very easy to deal with and accomodating. I almost thought about not writing this review because I don't want alot of people booking this place which would create more competition to reserve this cabin in the future!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: HI, This property was my home for several years. When I bought the place it was uninhabitable. The house was in shambles. The grounds were over grown in places, or had otherwise never been used. Over the past 10 years, I with the help of 'friends' (most of whom still answer the phone when I call :) ) have made the property a unique slice on Holmes Harbor. Built originally in the 1940's - I have tried to maintain the unique character of the 'cabin' and have the grounds compliment it's size. I have combined native plant growth with fun areas for playing, relaxing and working - though I don't expect you to partake of the later. I strive to always have something blooming in the gardens - no matter the season.
Why the Owner Chose Holmes Harbor:
From the moment I drove in the driveway - after cutting back fist sized black berry to fit in the driveway....I knew the potential this property had. Great Eastern placement. Cooler, yet sunny in the mornings.... WHAT's more the afternoons and Evening SUNSETS will take your breath away....or give your heart a renewed sense of Peace.
The house had a good layout, open and easy - she just needed some, well, a lot of TLC. With new everything from flooring, walls, insulation, appliances all the meaty stuff.... she's a gem.
Added Benefits we're within 15 minutes to the ferry, and close to all that's 'happening' on Island.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Great Location. QUIET Property. SUNSETS, Fun House whether you are 3, 30, 60, or 90 years old. Read my reviews. You'll find that some 3 NOW 4yr old's think the loft is the 'bomb' and the swing is fun. Most others are in the 30 - 60+ year range. AND my 90 year old guests like the ease of getting around, enjoying the deck.
The house is well appointed. NOT your typical rental furnishings. Fun Art, added appointments. I try to keep things fresh, and make changes each year.
