The Burge Nest is a family mountain home perched on a cliff overlooking the beautiful Jones Gap conservation area, with views of mountains in the near distance (no houses visible). Built to accommodate our large extended family, it is ideal for family gatherings and reunions, yet intimate enough for small groups. Hikers will enjoy easy access to the nearby Mountain Bridge nature trails.
The main floor (wheelchair accessible) has 2 bedrooms (4 queen beds) and 2.5 baths. Features include a large room with fireplace - perfect for games, movies, and conversation - and an adjoining area with grand piano and views on three sides - a good place to read, relax, or make music. Behind the living area is the dining area (seating for 12+) and a spacious and well-equipped kitchen.
The second floor, with 3 bedrooms(1 queen, 2 doubles, 4 singles, 1 crib) and 2 baths,includes a den with second TV. There is a rec room in the basement, complete with ping pong and pool tables, DVD player, and seating. For outside living, choose from the deck with hot tub (especially wonderful in winter) or the large, fully-furnished screened porch, where you can enjoy the mountain breezes.
A ten minute walk brings you to the community recreation area with 2 swimming pools (one heated), lake (for boating and fishing), and 2 tennis courts. Dupont State Forest, with its three waterfalls, is a 15 minute drive, and Caesar's Head State Park less than 5 minutes. Almost 45% of Transylvania County is covered by 6 national and state forests. Called the "Land of Waterfalls", the county contains 250 waterfalls you can visit.
Several golf courses are in the area, and nearby Brevard (25 minutes), Hendersonville (45 minutes), Greenville, SC (45 minutes), and Asheville (1 hour) offer river activities, shopping, restaurants, and cultural events, including the famous Brevard Music Festival and the Flatrock Summer Playhouse.

Year Purchased: 1999
This mountain home was built by our mother for her extended family of five children and numerous grandchildren. We use it often. It is a perfect place for family/friend gatherings and reunions.

From our home it is easy to explore the surrounding mountain area (hikes, crafts, water activities, golf). It is also fine just to stay home and make use of the amenities of our immediate area (pool, creek, lake).
