Location: Portofino, Liguria, Italy, Europe (Camogli, Italy, just the other side of Portofino Penninsula) View Map

Accommodations:  Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 4)

Camogli is a small, unspoiled fishing village tucked into a cove just the other side of the Portofino Penninsula. This is an alive Italian Village and a favorite spot for Italian's. We first visited Camogli in 1992 and fell in love with charm of this old village lined with pastel "Trompe l'oeil" buildings. It was a dream come true to finally buy and restore an apartment right on the water and live in the heart of Camogli where we could enjoy the village to the fullest. The apartment has four large windows from which the Ocean, Camogli, the village of San Rocco, the Monte di Portofino and the "Golfo Paradiso" can be seen.

The town has an excellent beach, and a small fishing Port where fresh fish can be purchased directly from the boats or from the local fish shops nearby.
There are many wonderful trails on the Portofino Penninsula. One can hike to San Rocco,or the abbey of San Fruttuoso(15th century) and even Portofino from Camogli.

A car is not a necessity in Camogli as there are ferries and trains to Genova, Rapallo, San Fruttuoso, Portofino, Santa Margarita, Cinque Terre and more. There is a little tourist office (IAT) near Piazza Schiaffino, and they are happy to assist you with train & ferry schedules; they also have a computer if you need to access the internet. There are many wonderful restaurants in Camogli offering fresh fish, regional pasta dishes "troffie al pesto", "pansotti con salsa di noci" and more. Via Garabaldi, the street on the water is lined with gelato shops, focacceria shops where one can sample the famous "focaccia col formagio", boutiques for shopping, fresh homemade pasta shops (if you wish to cook at home), wonderful cafe's and bars for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are a couple of great wine shops, and often you will find an English speaking person to help with your selection.

The apartment is on the fourth floor (above ground level) the building entrance is a few steps up from the beach level and a few steps down from the main street of the village. From there it's 43 steps up to the apartment.

Amenities: Queen-size med firm bed in bedroom with en-suite bathroom, large convertible sofa bed in living room, 8 foot leather sofa (can also be used as a single bed). Well equipped kitchen, beautiful wine glasses and china. You will also find many guide books, cook books and maps. SMOKING IS NOT ALLOWED.

Activities: Village life - Laying on the Beach, Leisurely Dining out of doors watching the sun go down over the Ocean, Day Trips Throughout the region, Wine Tasting, Hiking, Biking, Kayaking, Canoeing, Shopping, Restaurants, Museums, Swimming, Antiquing, Outdoor Markets.

I left my heart in Camogli~

My husband and I were so delighted when we climbed the steps to our first sight of this perfectly situated apartment. I fell in love with the location, the windows and waves, the churchbells and the well stocked comfy apartment! Elaine greeted us and helped us get situated, she is a doll! You couldn't ask for a better location to be in the heart of this magical town. We soon found our way into many shops, finding all our favorites--but ahhh there were so many to choose from! All the reviews written are right on, by the way! The owner is just an email away, and was very helpful while we made our decision on booking. I am so thankful that we chose this apartment, this town! The food is everything I had hoped for, and getting around to take in other towns is very easy indeed. We are going back, first chance we get!!! Thank you Adelle!!!

Right from the breathtaking views as you fist walk in to the wonderful apartment and the pace of this great little town. Thank you to Adella and Elaine for all of your advice and guidance and for making us feel at home. One writer had said once you find the Fiorella sisters pasta you won't want to eat out again...what can I say but Exactly. This is the perfect location and comfortable home away from home to have as a haven tom set out from each day to tour the Cinque Terre or any part of Liguria and to return to at the end of each day. A must stay at location.....you won't be sorry but rather wonder why you didn't stay longer. We will be back

Based on the photo's and the previous reviews I decided to book the apartment for a week in May. This place is FANTASTIC!!! There is not one thing I can add to the previous reviews except that the apartment, the town, the view, oh...the view (!) were better than I could have ever imagined. When Elaine opened the windows in the apartment for the first time, I could have cried it was so beautiful. We just loved this town. Not too touristy, lots of shops, places to eat (oh, the food!!!!!) and the people were incredibly kind to us. When I asked at a little deli where the tourist office was the deli man stopped what he was doing and walked me to the office!! As far as the food goes, once you discover the fresh pasta shop of the Fiorelle sisters you will never eat out again!!! Overall, it was a GREAT experience! Everything in the apartment is clean, well laid out and comfortable, even the bed was glorious!! Can't say enough good things about our experience and I look forward to going back.

An unforgettable vacation!

I had the pleasure of staying in this apartment in February. There were several features that stood out immediately: the location (basically right on the water), the to-die-for views and overall quality of the unit. This property is very clean and well-kept. The owner clearly has made an effort to make sure you have everything needed for a great stay: plenty of towels and clean linens, shelves of good books and travel guides, cupboards stocked with condiments, dishes and utensils. Internet access is important to me so I purchased a G3 Vodaphone USB Stick for my laptop and had fast, reliable transfer rates. There are not enough good things to be said about the picturesque village of Camogli. If you are interested in the very best Italy has to offer in terms of “local flavor” and warm, friendly people this is your place. The food is very good and the beach absolutely perfect. I enjoy hiking and was busy everyday taking day hikes along coastal ridges to beautiful villages like San Rocco, San Fruttuoso and other spots on the incredible Portofino Peninsula. These well-groomed trails with ancient stone steps have served countless generations of Italians. For hiking in more distant areas such as Cinque Terre (highly recommended) I just walked a few blocks up the street to the train station and enjoyed a scenic ride south along the coast. After a full day of hiking, delicious food and wine the apartment provided me with a very restful sleep with a serenade provided by ocean waves. I found the owner to be very professional and courteous in the process of reserving the unit. I highly recommend this property and Camogli for anyone looking for the best of Italy.

Stupendous apartment in charming little town!!

I stayed in Liguria for 3 weeks, 2 weeks here at this gorgeous apartment... and most of the time traveling alone. Felt totally safe by myself... next time I would stay here even longer! The apt overlooks the walking street and ocean - heard the crashing waves and laughing children playing and riding their little bikes. What fun! Would walk the town several times a day... stopping for a coffee... or a gelato... or the iat (Tourist Office) to check email... then pick up some deliciously fresh fruits and veggies... linger at the bakery for some focaccia... stop at the Fiorella sisters for to-die-for pasta.... yep, "la dolce vita" for sure! The apartment had everything I needed to eat at home, and I ate in most meals... warming up the pasta, opening a bottle of vino, cooking whatever I bought at the Wednesday market. Life could not have been more relaxing and pleasant here in bella Camogli! Hiking around Portofino and San Rocco, exploring San Fruttuoso and Recco... and the trails of Cinque Terre are only an hour train ride away! Camogli is a great central location, and this apartment was the best of the best! If your travels take you anywhere in the Liguria area, be sure to stay here!

Vacation in Camogli

Guest: Gale (Toronto, Canada)
Date of Stay: 07/31/10 Review Submitted: 08/10/10

This was the first time I used VRBO, and it exceeded my expectations! The apartment was perfect: spacious living space, clean and well maintained. Having 2 bathrooms and a bedroom+conv. couch was perfect for my cousin and myself, but it could easily accommodate 4. The pebble-covered beach is a minute walk away, and while the waves can be a bit rough, the water is clean and warm. The town is safe and well stocked: restaurants, fresh pasta, pastry stores, wine stores, etc. There's lots to do: there was a music festival, a parade, the Stelle Maris festival (1st Sun of Aug), Wednesday market and easy access to other towns on the Riviera. I highly recommend the property and the town.

This is a homey apartment with a fine, well-appointed kitchen, a cozy bedroom, his and hers bathrooms, and a fabulous living room and dining room; full windows that bring in the light, views of the sea and sea–breezes. Look down and you’ll see the action of the passeggiata below. The location is great for getting the ‘feel’ of Camogli—a ‘real’ seaside town that has not been redefined by tourism. Hop on the a ferry or bus for nearby towns like the lovely Santa Margherita, or get on the train to go beyond for hiking in the Cinque Terre. If your idea of relaxing in Italy is sitting in the restaurants and cafes and watching the world go by this is a really fine place to do it. We are travelers who have seen the ‘sights’ of Italy—of course love them, but abbastanza (enough)! What is truly wonderful about Italy are the places where the Italians really live. This is what you’ll experience ferrying out each day from this nest to the world beyond.

Our week in Camogli was definitely the highlight of our three week trip through Italy. We absolutely loved the apartment! Priceless views, a comfortable place, and amazing fresh pasta and bread made our time memorable. There were so many details that were in the apartment that were much appreciated! Just wanted to let you know that we returned after a really lovely week at your apartment in Camogli. Everything was just great and we will be telling our friends about it. The huge windows, the bright light, the great view of the sea, the town and of course, the people, and the sheer convenience of being close to everything, were wonderful and Elaine's welcome was much appreciated.

I stayed at this lovely apartment over the summer (June-July, 2008) for three awesome weeks. It was a bit expensive for me (I traveled alone for this trip) but the view was PRICELESS and it was so worth it! I opened the door to the apartment and was greeted with the most breathtaking view! Four mammoth windows, the sound of the waves and wonderful scents of the beautiful town of Camogli lulled me to sleep and greeted me each morning. It was amazing and so relaxing! I think I spent the first three days just staring at the ocean, the hills and the town below from those big, wonderful windows! The apartment was just perfect (I loved the kitchen and also drying my wash in summer sun on the clothes line outside the windows) and located near everything. It was just off the beach and a very short walk to the train station or to anything I could possibility desire. Even though I was traveling alone, I always felt safe and loved returning to the town of Camogli from my day trips because it wasn't so overrun with tourists like the other towns. Also, there is a Tourist Office a short walk from the apartment and they were a huge help to me. I could not only check my email and scout out places to visit but they provided wonderful suggestions from taking a boat to Portofino to concerts and current exhibits in Genova (I speak very little Italian so it was a comfort because most of the folks in the tourist office did speak English). I just loved it all from the apartment to the town! I was so sad to leave and wish that I could have stayed another three weeks! Thank you Adelle, Bob and Elaine! I hope to stay at your wonderful apartment again in the near future! Grazie!
