Location: Krabi, Thailand, Asia (20 Miles from Krabi Airport, Island of Koh Siboya)
Accommodations: Bungalow, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)
We invite you to experience relaxation on an unspoiled island only 30 minutes from Krabi Airport. The island has no paved roads, no electricity, so it isn’t for everyone, but we love it and hope you will too. Our property is 5 rai (a rai is 80 m x 20m) piece of property right on the beach front on an island called Koh Siboya. We are eventually going to turn it into a small resort, but right now we only have the 3 bungalows, 1 duplex and 7 Thai-style bungalows finished, so these are what are for rent.
All accommodations are custom built with a different design, décor, landscaping, and most important of all, location: Beach, River, Hilltop, and the Garden Duplex. Check out our website listed below, for more pictures. Each tailored for a different experience, so that you can pick a house that is exactly what you’ve been dreaming of. There is no electricity currently running to the island, but we have two generators that we run in the evening from dusk to 10 PM for lighting and hot water showers.
Let us introduce our bungalows.
Beach Bungalow (the one featured in this ad) is the closest to the beach, and has a nice ocean view from the porch. Beach Bungalow is approximately 35 square meters or 360 square feet, and is surrounded by a lush hedge of exotic Thai plants and ponds full of tropical fish. It has 1 bedroom, one 1 bathroom, and a breakfast nook. Sleeps 2 persons, one 1 queen bed.
River Bungalow is a smaller studio bungalow actually built over a seasonal stream. River Bungalow has several private decks hanging just feet over the river. A word of warning though, during the wet summer months, the meandering river becomes a torrent and the frogs and crickets crank up the volume, so please come prepared to sleep through a considerable symphony of natural noises. It has 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. Sleeps 2 persons, 1 queen bed (with mosquito netting).
Garden Duplex began as a workshop, and we liked its construction and view so much we turned it into two adjoining bungalows. Lotus Room has 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. Sleeps 2 persons, one (1) king bed (with mosquito netting). Palm Room has 1 living room, 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. Sleeps 2-4 persons, 1 king bed (with mosquito netting), 1 futon in the living room (with mosquito netting).
The 2 bungalows and the Garden Duplex have no kitchens but meals can be catered or you can use a communal kitchen and prepare your own food. Meals can be prepared on site and brought to your room; you'd need to make arrangements with the staff.
Hilltop House is two stories, approximately 1,600 square feet in "open" style. The open style means that there aren’t private bedrooms, but there are plenty of beds, couches, and portable sleeping mats so that everyone can find a space to call their own. The bottom floor has the reception area and souveneir shop, but the upper floor is for rent.
There is a large deck, with magnificent views of the resort and the ocean, suitable for sleeping under the stars. Please keep in mind that the house’s open style may not be right for you if your group consists of more than 2 couples wanting privacy (one couple inside, and one sleeping out on the deck). Is has tile floors downstairs and hardwood floors upstairs. Sleeps 4 persons comfrotably, but we could bring in extra futons and beds at additional charge.
Seasonal conditions. You see many resorts in Thailand charge different prices depending on the time of year because for most visitors, there are "good times" to visit Thailand and "not so good times." The air and water temperatures remain fairly constant, with air temperatures in the mid-high 80’s, and water temperatures in the low 80’s, but your experience is quite different depending on which season, as each season has a different combination of rain and wind. Here are our observations on the seasons, so that you can pick the time that is right for you.
"High Season". Generally mid-October through February. Not much rain, nice cool breezes but not high wind, coolest temperatures of the year. Pleasant time to snorkel, ride bikes, or scooter around the island, wind-related sports such as windsurfing are so-so (good for beginners, not so much fun for experts). For most visitors, the most popular time to visit Krabi, so the greatest crowds (not much of a problem at our place, as we don’t get much vacation traffic, but this does effect your experience in the outlying towns.
"Dry Season". Generally late February through early May. Almost no rain, not much wind, hottest temperatures of the year. Very few tourists, so a good time for sightseeing, shopping, etc. Good time for kayaking, snorkeling, and other water-related sports which do not require wind. Lousy time for windsurfing, kite surfing, and sailing.
"Wet Season". Generally mid-May through early October. Rains almost every day for at least an hour, and sometimes will pour for 4 hours straight. The rain is around 80 degrees, but it is relentless; thus, you spend a lot of time relaxing, eating or reading books. The wind is usually very strong (20 knots or more), so it is great for water sports requiring wind, such as windsurfing, kite surfing and sailing (so long as you time your sessions around the rain). Lots of runoff from the rains, so snorkeling is not that great near our place and you need to hire a long tail to get you out to some of the more remote reefs.
