Thank you, Bob, for a relaxing 5-week stay at Hale Pa'Ma. We appreciated your concern for our comfort and frequent checks to see if we were lacking anything. We understand that you make it a habit to drop in on new residents as soon as possible after their arrival, to explain any idiosyncrasies of the cabin (eg, the tub/shower mechanism), and this is appreciated. We also liked the knowledge that we could phone you at any time with problems, with the assurance that all would be fixed asap. That's how we got the kitchen bulbs replaced soon after our arrival. We were able to figure out the TV workings the first evening or would have called about that as well. It was kind of you to supply us with a binder full of information on local activities and tourist sights - we made full use of it. 'Deep Hawaii' is well located for explorations of the east side of Big Island and we had a great time visiting parks all the way from the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in the south to Waipio Valley to the north. Locally at Hawaii Paradise Park, we hiked the Old Puna Trail off the end of Beach Road a few times. This led to Haena Beach, where we encountered resting Monk Seals and a lovely swimming site. The Kapoha Tide Pools were also a highlight of our stay, with the wonderful snorkeling to be found there. We found Hala Pa'Ma to be a clean, comfortable and interesting home-away-from-home. There was the chirp of birds during the day and the sound of frogs at night quickly became a 'white noise' which we actually quite enjoyed hearing. It gave the place character! We sure liked it more than the sound of traffic and sirens encountered in a city setting.

This place is not worth the cost. Neither of the necessary lights in the kitchen work - over the stove and over the sink - and the one that does is a bare bulb overhead. During 5 days there, we never got the TV to work as anything other than a glorified video player - and those were all oldtime Disney films. And we would not have been able to figure out how to make the tub work as a shower if the owner hadn't shown up. The harsh croking frogs in the evening and night, and the neighbor's roosters in the early morning (4 AM) make ear plugs a necessity.

Great place to unwind, let Hawaii take over and sleep to the scent and sounds of this tropical paradise. Clean, user-friendly, simple and charming home. Erica is a most welcoming hostess and she had terrific suggestions for our stay. I highly recommend this accomodation for all friendly folk.
