The Palisade Log Cabin on the north shore of Lake Superior is located just off Highway 61, one mile east of Silver Bay. It is about a half mile through heavily wooded lots to the 35-year old secluded and authentic log cabin. The cabin sits on 2.6 acres of private land and has more than 460 feet of high rugged Lake Superior shoreline.
There are incredible views to the north of the Palisade Head Cliffs. These cliffs reach 350 feet high and are a favorite of rock climbers. You can hear the waves of the lake crashing against the ledge rock cliffs just 70 feet from the cabin! The sunrises over the lake are spectacular; in the evening you might be able to view the northern lights!
Enjoy the peace and solitude of the whispering pines and birch while watching a bald eagle flying above. You can read a book or play cards/games near the cabin’s warm wood stove. Outside you can toast marshmallows at one of the fire pits or play horseshoes. Search for Thomsonites, agates, crystals, cobblestones, or driftwood. Go berry picking or view colorful spring wild flowers and brilliant fall foliage.
Drive the Highway 61/Superior National Forest Scenic Byway and visit the beautiful Minnesota state parks nearby (see map). Hike on The Superior Hiking Trail that runs from Two Harbors to the Canadian border. Ride your bike on the Gitche Gami Bike Trail that runs along Highway 61. Snowmobile on the North Shore State Snowmobiling Trail or drive an ATV on designated ATV trails from Duluth to Grand Portage. Try cross-country skiing on the North Shore Mountain Cross Country Ski Trail.
In the summer you can go to the nearby secluded and beautiful sandy beach (ask for directions). Take a charter boat tour or fishing trip out of the Silver Bay Marina that is 3.5 miles to the southwest. If you're adventurous, you can go kayaking/canoeing in the cove.
Watch for giant iron ore carriers on Lake Superior, they depart from Silver Bay and head east to Cleveland. Look for wildlife around the cabin and you may see eagle, deer, moose, bear, fox, wolf, and beaver. If you don’t feel like cooking, dine at a variety of fine nearby restaurants (Lemon Wolf, Northern Lights, The Crossings, and Cove Point Lodge in Beaver Bay; Our House in Finland; The Blue Fin in Tofte).
The Palisade Log Cabin is in close proximity to all activities listed here, most within just a few miles. Most important, take time to enjoy a classic log cabin experience on the North Shore!

Palisade Log Cabin on Lake Superior's North Shore
Year Purchased: 2011
Why the Owner Chose Silver Bay
The north shore of Lake Superior, particularly the stretch along Highway 61 from Duluth to Grand Marais has something for everyone. Silver Bay, which is in right in the middle of this beautiful stretch, is a great place to enjoy the spectacular views of Lake Superior and to visit the many Minnesota State Parks in the area.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
We enjoy everything we describe on our property listing, especially the serenely beautiful views from log cabin. The area is quiet and relaxing but also provides us with opportunities to venture out and explore a wide variety of destinations along the beautiful North Shore!
Owner's Map of Silver Bay
We moved to the Twin Cities in 2000 and have gone "Up North" to visit since. Sarah's parents have had a house in Silver Bay for many years which served as our launching pad to the north shore till we bought this cabin. The people are very nice, the air is fresh, and there is lots to do in the area. We like hiking and there is plenty of this. Also our 2 sons are just starting to fish; what a great place to learn!

A Memorable Christmas Experience

Our family of four adults spent three nights over the Christmas holiday and very much enjoyed a special time celebrating in the quiet of this place. The view is spectacular and exceeded our expectations. The care takers even placed a small lighted tree for us to enjoy. This cabin is ideal for those who are wishing for a tranquil time away and can appreciate the craftsmanship of the hand hewn log construction and the rustic feel of the interior. We found the Palisade Log Cabin to be clean and offering most all we needed to make our holiday stay one we will remember for many years to come. Do note there is not a DVD player, just a VCR. That was our only regret as we had hoped to watch a few of our favorite holiday DVD movies.
Owner response:As of Feb 2nd a new TV and DVD player have been added.

Great Lake Views

The log cabin itself is beautiful and the lake views are great. However there are some updates that need to be done. Broken window and holes in the screens. The towels were frayed and scratchy. Bedding pilled and torn. The cabin could use a deep cleaning. The refrigerator and bathroom were dirty upon our arrival. Plastic deck furniture broken. This is an uniquie property that could be awesome with some attention.
Owner response:These issues have been noted and taken care of. New windows (a Grouse flew into them) and other items have added to upgrade the cabin.
Recommended for:Sightseeing.

This small rustic cabin is comfortable and very private. We spent 4 nights here and enjoyed the quiet woods that surround the cabin. The trees were constantly filled with a variety of birds The rugged rocky cliffs provide a spectacular view!! Sunrise peeking thru the fog is a sight you will long remember.

Great honeymoon experience!

Indeed a beautiful cabin! My husband and I stayed there for part of our honeymoon and were treated to gorgeous views, a few deer sightings and absolute peace. It was a ways off the frontage road, but provided an ample buffer between us and the freeway. We were close enough in to Two Harbors to feel like we weren't in the wilderness, so to speak, but not exactly staying in the downtown of a bustling tourist town, either. Another plus was that it wasn't a colossal place on the lake - so many of the properties up along the shore are these behemoth 5 bedroom/3 bathroom places; this cabin had the master bedroom and the bedroom with the bunks, along with a largish common room that had the kitchen, a dining area and the living room. The place was overall a bit more rustic than either of us had anticipated, but it was an easy adjustment to make. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a simple, quiet time up on the lake. Plan on reading all afternoon and treating yourself to a nice fire in the evening.

The cabin and the experience was absolutely wonderful. The view of Lake Superior is beautiful, especially in the early morning with the sunrise. My greatest moment was when I got engaged on the back deck of the cabin. It was beautiful!!!!!!

My girl friend and I stayed at this cabin during the annual Duluth Bayfront Blues Fest. It is truely a once in a lifetime experience. The sunrises over Lake Superior are spectacular. The rugged beauty of the Superior shoreline just below this cabin make it a real treat to hike around and get the rustic woodland experience. We saw many deers and wildlife while sitting around the fire pit and the evening stars where awesome. We will definitely be back. Thanks, Mac and Merrily Twin Cities

What an idyllic time my children and I had at this cabin. Hiking at Tettegouche, Gooseberry Falls and Palisade Head; grilling steaks at the cabin, Lake Superior sunrises on the deck. Cabin was immaculate, everything worked and was even prettier than the Internet pics. We'll be back.
Owner response:Thank You so much for your comment! You hit in on the head, Palisade Head ofcourse, and now we have NEW PHOTOS, to get the true feel the Cabin inside and out! Thanks again!
