CLIPPED COMMENTS--- If I was to design a dream vacation home, I would copy the Maile Tree House down to the smallest detail // Unforgettable stay // WOW! a.) MAILE (my-lee) TREEHOUSE, a LUXURIOUS & ROMANTIC COTTAGE on the Big Island. The ideal Volcano Vacation Rental in Hawaii. Custom built to bring the Rainforest in with it's abundance of large windows. A view from every room and in all directions- HAND CRAFTED wood interior & custom everything! The Built-in FIREPLACE is two sided with a rotating flatscreen above so that you can VIEW BOTH THE TV AND FIREPLACE from the Living Room, Bedroom, and JACUZZI tub. The LAVA ROCK surrounded tub is set in a bay window just steps away from the SELECT COMFORT BED, with reading lights over the Jacuzzi to soak up a good book. Tall ceilings, rich Brazilian Cherry floors, built in bookcases and cabinetry, skylights all combine to make a warm and memorable experience with Touches added here and there-- intended to delight. Why the Owner Chose Volcano
Having lived here over 30 years, Volcano remains our favorite getaway.. so finally in 2003 after searching to buy a getaway that we could also use as a vacation rental.. it became clear we needed to build what we wanted. We spent 4 years of weekends driving up from Waimea, to hand clear and hand build our labor of love. We finished July of 2007! Everyone who has stayed has felt the care and enthusiasm that we have put into our version of the perfect getway.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
The most common comments we get unique to the treehouse.. "treehouse feel" and the song birds, the cozy homeyness, the magical feeling, and the "details"... meaning ALOT of different things...for which you'd need to experience on your own-- but are unique to staying there.
The adjustable Select Comfort Bed is a godsend for those with "back issues" and the soak/ jacuzzi by the bed and fireplace is extremely wonderful.. and functional.. to name a couple details....

We have just returned from a trip to the Hawaiian Islands and by far the highlight of our vacation was our time spent at Maile Tree House. Since returning, we have raved about this beautiful, warm and cosy home to anyone who will listen. We were thrilled to discover something new about the house each day and loved uncovering all the little 'surprises'. The vases of fresh flowers in every room were an especially nice touch. Although the pictures on the website are lovely, they cannot possibly capture the uniqueness of this perfect piece of paradise. It has to be seen to be believed! Thank you so much Leslie and Michael for not only your warm hospitality but for the wonderful lasting memories from our time at Maile Tree House. -P & A, Sydney, Australia

My husband, 2 friends, and I stayed here after participating in the Honolulu Marathon. We absolutely loved it! We were blown away by how cozy and inviting the accommodations were. We were all incredibly comfortable and relaxed staying here. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to "stay in" one day while my husband and friends explored the island!

My husband and I had an incredible time at Maile Treehouse. What an absolutely magical place! It's hard to describe it with mere words. The owner, Leslie, has put such an enormous amount of time and detail into the oustide and inside of the home. It is stunning and every last little comfort is provided. It is so private, you literally feel as if you are the only people in the world perched in the middle of a tropical rain forest. We highly recommend the Maile Tree House. We hope to return next year! Coming to Hawaii was a vacation my sister and I had been planning for months. We wanted to see the Volcanoes as our first destination and right away chose the Maile Treehouse because of the pictures and descriptions on their website. We arrived in the evening when it was dark and raining so it was hard to visualize our surrounding. We fell in love with the house right away! When we woke up the next morning we were both amazed by the beauty of our surroundings. The feeling of peace and serenity is so overwhelming we didn't want to leave! Can't wait to come here again and tell our friends and family about the Maile Treeehouse. Mahalo!! ....This house was a delight. Everywhere we looked, a new surprise was awaiting. Beautiful house, and fun grounds. I loved it here. Your home made this trip special. By the by- if you get to the Kilauea Lodge, get the Lilikoi Margarita-yummy! Also their lamb shops were cooked to perfection.

Without question our favorite part of our trip to Hawaii was Volcano and this lovely rental. Celebrations in life are so important. We planned this trip 8 months ago, a 'big' birthday, a 2nd anniversary and best of all a 'cancer free' diagnosis! We have been all over the world in amazing places. The Maile Treehouse has become our #1 choice to celebrate , to re-energize and make new memories. The comfort and warmth emanates from every detail in this beautiful home with obvious love put into every detail. Thanks to them for making this available to others. We left there relaxed, happy and healthy. We will return. Debra and Peter Boulder, Colorado Peter says this is the only place I've ever been that when you wake up in the morning and it's raining, you don't mind! We cannot tell you how much we love this place.

sister vacation in a tropical paradise

If you want to do some relaxing and sightseeing this vacation home is the perfect get-away. It is truly a tropical paradise. As soon as you turn off the main highway you find yourself entering a secluded jungle with quiet streets and homes spread out enough to give you all of the privacy you need. The home and property are exactly as you see it on the website but even better. Their are so many types of trees and beautiful flowers as part of the natural landscaping. You can tell that the owners put a lot of thought into incorporating that into their own gardens. The house is very cozy and has all of the comforts of home. There were instructions and notes left where needed if you had any questions and also a scrapbook composed of brochures and menus for various attractions and restaurants in the area. The only warning I will give you is that if you are one of those people who can't always be out by check-out time, you may want to let the owners know. My sister and I were still loading up our jeep at 11:08 when housekeeping arrived and let us know repeatedly how much this bothered them. Other than that I would definitely recommend this vacation rental to everyone.

What a stunning place they have here! We absolutely loved it and wish we had stayed the week. Their attention to detail shows a love of art and whimsical attitude. Words cannot express how much the four of us enjoyed this vacation rental. The plants, trees, perfume of the ginger flowers and birdsong... I have travelled the world to exotic places, and stayed in many lovely hotels, but there is not much chance to just 'be'. This property has given me that. I truly hated to leave, but sincerely hope to come back here some day. Leslie's recommendation for massage was the icing on the cake, outside, listening to quiet soothing music with birdsong in the trees, is a memory I will relive again and again. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Maile Treehouse. Jane and Helen PSMy husband says we're coming back!!

We stayed here for part of our honeymoon and really enjoyed our time here. Incredibly private and you get the sense that you are miles away from the "real" world while the town of Volcano is a 10 minute walk away. Great place to stay. We would recommend it to anyone!
