We stayed at the Maile Treehouse for several days during our recent 30th Anniversary "Dream Vacation". We can not begin to thank Leslie and Michael enough for opening up this beautiful home for us and others to enjoy. The location is simply the best if you plan on spending a few days exploring everything that Volcanoes National Park has to offer. Creativity, the attention to detail and the pride of ownership is evident everywhere you look in and around this property. It's the little things that separate an average stay from a memorable one. And if you pay attention and take the time to "explore" this home and it's gardens you WILL discover all the "Little things" that help make it such a special place. The Customer service provided by the owners is also "Over and Above" what would be expected. And we were quite touched and appreciative of this. MAHALO!! The Maile Treehouse is such a “Magickal” place with so much to offer, that if you have an opportunity to stay here, you need to book it immediately before someone else beats you to it!! We will recommend this rental to EVERYONE and ANYONE who asks us for our suggestions. We could not have asked for a more perfect place to call home for our few short days on the Big Island. MAHALO... Many places in Hawaii toss around the term 'paradise'. Maile Treehouse is one of the few places we've stayed that deserve that designation. This cozy cottage among the ohias truly is a magical oasis for bird lovers, decor appreciators, and comfortphiles. Where else could one lounge in the jacuzzi whilst visually stalking Hawaiian honeycreepers? It's an apapane party all day long here! Mahalo for this wonderful hideaway.

"Really is like being in a treehouse!" This was a wonderful retreat for my husband's 60th birthday! Michael and Leslie did a wonderful job on it. It is like being in your own little cottage in the trees. Very private but close to the Volcanoes park. The fireplace was a wonderful addition as it does get cool on that side of the island. Everything was perfect. You will love this if you want privacy and a really unique stay in the tropical rainforest. The bed was super comfy too! Thank you to Leslie and Michael for making my husband's birthday so special!!

This is one of the best, if not the best properties we have ever stayed at. It is a one in a million with hand-crafted attention to detail throughout the unit. It has a selectcomfort bed and a jetted soaking tub. Leslie and Michael say they want to create a "feeling" and wow, they sure do. You are in the middle of a rainforest, up in the trees with the birds and privacy on all sides. This couple has gone to great pains to design the interior and exterior grounds. On top of it all, you are 5 minutes from the entrance to hi Volcanoes Natl Park.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Maile Treehouse. First it was right at the "door" of the Volcano National Park allowing us to explore the Park thoroughly. We also loved coming back to the Treehouse at the end of our explorations. It is bright and airy and truly comfortable. Wide windows in every room look out on treetops and birds flying between trees. The kitchen was modern and well appointed...can the house came with extras like a good guitar and binoculars. As a want-to-be architect, I loved the architectual details in this home--it was clearly thoughtful designed and constructed. Very comfortable and welcoming. Perfect for a couple.

My husband, 2 friends, and I stayed here after participating in the Honolulu Marathon. We absolutely loved it! We were blown away by how cozy and inviting the accommodations were. My husband and I had an incredible time at Maile Treehouse. What an absolutely magical place! It's hard to describe it with mere words. The owner, Leslie, has put such an enormous amount of time and detail into the oustide and inside of the home. It is stunning and every last little comfort is provided. Without question our favorite part of our trip to Hawaii was Volcano and this lovely rental. Celebrations in life are so important. We planned this trip 8 months ago, a 'big' birthday, a 2nd anniversary and best of all a 'cancer free' diagnosis! We have been all over the world in amazing places. The Maile Treehouse has become our #1 choice to celebrate , to re-energize and make new memories. The comfort and warmth emanates from every detail in this beautiful home with obvious love put into every detail. Thanks to them for making this available to others. We left there relaxed, happy and healthy. We will return. Coming to Hawaii was a vacation my sister and I had been planning for months. We wanted to see the Volcanoes as our first destination and right away chose the Maile Treehouse because of the pictures and descriptions on their website. We arrived in the evening when it was dark and raining so it was hard to visualize our surrounding. We fell in love with the house right away! When we woke up the next morning we were both amazed by the beauty of our surroundings. The feeling of peace and serenity is so overwhelming we didn't want to leave! Can't wait to come here again and tell our friends and family about the Maile Treeehouse. Mahalo!! ....This house was a delight. Everywhere we looked, a new surprise was awaiting. Beautiful house, and fun grounds. I loved it here. Your home made this trip special. By the by- if you get to the Kilauea Lodge, get the Lilikoi Margarita-yummy! Also their lamb shops were cooked to perfection.

If you want to do some relaxing and sightseeing this vacation home is the perfect get-away. It is truly a tropical paradise. As soon as you turn off the main highway you find yourself entering a secluded jungle with quiet streets and homes spread out enough to give you all of the privacy you need. The home and property are exactly as you see it on the website but even better. Their are so many types of trees and beautiful flowers as part of the natural landscaping. You can tell that the owners put a lot of thought into incorporating that into their own gardens. The house is very cozy and has all of the comforts of home. There were instructions and notes left where needed if you had any questions and also a scrapbook composed of brochures and menus for various attractions and restaurants in the area. The only warning I will give you is that if you are one of those people who can't always be out by check-out time, you may want to let the owners know. My sister and I were still loading up our jeep at 11:08 when housekeeping arrived and let us know repeatedly how much this bothered them. Other than that I would definitely recommend this vacation rental to everyone.

What a stunning place they have here! We absolutely loved it and wish we had stayed the week. Their attention to detail shows a love of art and whimsical attitude. Words cannot express how much the four of us enjoyed this vacation rental. The plants, trees, perfume of the ginger flowers and birdsong... I have travelled the world to exotic places, and stayed in many lovely hotels, but there is not much chance to just 'be'. This property has given me that. I truly hated to leave, but sincerely hope to come back here some day. Leslie's recommendation for massage was the icing on the cake, outside, listening to quiet soothing music with birdsong in the trees, is a memory I will relive again and again. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Maile Treehouse. Jane and Helen PSMy husband says we're coming back!!

We stayed here for part of our honeymoon and really enjoyed our time here. Incredibly private and you get the sense that you are miles away from the "real" world while the town of Volcano is a 10 minute walk away. Great place to stay. We would recommend it to anyone!

"What an incredible finish to our trip staying in this beautiful and cozy treehouse, so romantic,almost impossible to leave to see the sights in Volcano area. Amazing- we so embraced the beautiful spirit and whimsical humor in all the special touches through out.   Love the design and thought and work that went into this beautiful retreat.  It couldn't have been more special, perfect for our 25th celebration and our bodies and souls!!  The second day we went to the black sand beach and napped with the sea turtles, incredible!   If this place were food, it'd be fine dining.  And all the "amusing touches" were "delightful", wood tones, including guitar, beautiful!     Mahalo  Kim and Sheryl

Very nice decor. Enjoyed the delicious pancakes for breakfast. This was a definite plus. Good central location to visit the beaches in Pahoa, the Volcano's National Park and the winery. The fireplace came in handy for the rainy cool afternoons. It was so easy to use. The jacuzzi tub was just what my body needed to soothe my mosquito bites from the Hamakua Coast. Surprisingly, I didn't see any mosquitos or get bit once at the tree house. In fact we left the windows open and didn't see really any bugs. It was a nice reprieve. There are lots of places to explore during the day and rest and relaxation to be had at night at the tree house. Thanks again. Victoria and Carlos

The treehouse had everything we wanted and more.... we very much enjoyed discovering hidden 'treasures' in the garden and the creative art collection. The kitchen was well stocked and the macadamia/banana pancake mix was delicious :-) Leslie was incredibly helpful in answering all of our questions prior to the trip - and some after the trip! The location is perfect to visit the volcano national park anytime of day....post-dinner trips to view the lava were incredible. We will be back for sure.

If you are considering a place to stay while visiting Hawaii National Volcanoes Park. This is it. From the quick and courteous service from making reservations with Leslie to the charm this home had just about everything was perfect. Since there are so many positive 5 star reviews I thought I would instead point out things that might be a reason for concern to you: 1. There will be some bugs. Keep in mind this is in a rain forest. If that bothers you Hawaii probably isn't the best vacation spot for you. 2. The main unit is up some stairs, if you are disabled or have a hard time going up/down stairs its something to consider.(there is a downstairs unit, I did not see the interior so cannot comment on it), but the garden area is beautiful for everyone :) 3. The house is cooled via open windows, there will naturally be some dust in the house. All routinely used areas are spotless, however you will find some dust on some of the shelves. Nothing worse than my own house. As for the positive- EVERYTHING else. It's all been mentioned before me and if I said anything more it would only take away the surprises that make it so great. More than a business, more than a house, more than a home- this place affords you the opportunity to create wonderful memories that you will treasure for a lifetime. I can only thank the owners for taking such care to create a place for us all to enjoy.

Owner response:just a note to clarify... there are no bugs inside the house, extemely rare for mosquitos in Volcano and no cockroaches in or out ever. A moth/fly/ or bug may fly in the opened house... while sitting outside,you will not experience bugs on you, really not sure why there was that comment except for visible spider webs on the outside of the house... we try not to impose too much on the outdoors.

Perfect Very Romantic and Personal Touches

All I can say is fantastic? Convienent to all you need to see Volanco park to Hilo and beyond. Was a perfect location for what interested us. Volcano park, black sand beach, hot springs "lagoon", Waipo Valley, etc. Nice and cool and night for sleeping. Only thing was bed was hard to get use too. Nice personal touches aroung the house AND yard. You will not regret the extras or choice of staying here.

Owner response:For anyone wondering about 'getting used to the bed'.... it is a 'Select Comfort Bed' if you'd like to look that up. It allows you to adjust each side separately as to the firmness/softness that you like, without a noticable change in the center of the bed. Our hope is that it can give every single person their ultimate choice in bed comfort. (in this case and others, it would seem that means.... eventually! a case of too many choices perhaps) It is otherwise a 'normal' looking and feeling bed. Delighted that got figured out and all was enjoyed there!!

Wonderful place for couple's getaway or a honeymoon stay! Leslie has thought of EVERY detail, and her thoughtful touches made staying at the treehouse a slice a heaven....Very private location, tranquil, yet close to the Volcanoes Natl Park, and lots of other activities. Our cells and our souls have unfolded here at the Maile Treehouse. Time has slowed as we've breathed in the misty air, watched the tree fern fronds uncurl, and listened to bird song and the whoosh of the bird wings passing overhead. We've delighted in the whimsy and creative spirit found at every turn! We feel so thankful to have discovered this haven of tranquility. WOW! Words can't describe how wonderful this treehouse is. We were so excited to come here after seeing it online and it even exceeded our hopes! This is better than any luxury hotel- so immaculate, yet so cozy and inviting. It was a truly wonderful way to help us celebrate our 20 years together and has been a very special part of it. Now we have to come back when there is lava flowing. S & C

We were very thankful for the use of this wonderful Home after having had our eye on it for over two years. It's so much more than a vacation rental! It's like special friends allowed you into their "Special Retreat". We sisters were in NEED of a special vacation after a very very difficult month, and this home more than satisfied. There isn't much we can add that most, if not all of their prior guests haven't already said. This place is Magnificant and Wonderfully whimsical. We enjoyed the treasure hunt for all of their cute surprises! And they and many of their neighbors have chosen to landscape with native plants. It is a rain forest getaway, in great proximity to Volcanoes N.P. If we decide to go back to the N.P., we'll definitely want to stay here again. Too bad we only had a couple of days in this wonderful place, but the memories of it will stay with us forever. The only issue we had was with the select comfort bed, which we weren't used to. But otherwise, our stay was awesome!

We just love it and always want to bring it back home with us, but feel the Select Comfort Bed is such a treat for a vacation rental since it caters to every different preference! We left this lovely home feeling relaxed and energized- having thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Leslie and Michael have created a lovely little hide-away and have thought of everything - both practical and comfortable - there was not one thing we needed that we could not find. Besides the special things left for us from Leslie and Michael, we started off our 25th anniversary with a helicopter tour (Tropical Helicopter) and were thrilled to see active lava (be brave and go for the open-door flight)! In the afternoon we enjoyed Suzanne’s lomi-lomi massage (Hale Ho’ola Spa) in Volcano Village. And to end the day, Chef Ron cooked us a wonderful dinner (brought to the house), served by candlelight. Volcano is truly a magical place and we hope to come back again in future years. Helen and Blake, Vancouver, Canada

We couldn't have imagined a more perfect place to spend our honeymoon! The Maile Treehouse has all the little touches we could have asked for: beautiful, views from every window, and seclusion. We love it so much we are planning to come back for one of our anniversaries. If you are looking for a secluded place to relax and enjoy some you-time, you really can't beat this rental.

Tropical Jungle Home and Volcanoes, Wow!

Well, Leslie was right, 2 days wasn't enough! We loved this treehouse, so unique. Awaking to the birds chirping in the morning was a pleasant surprise. Felt like we were living up in the tree canopy with them. Access to the park was so convenient. We hiked the Kilauea Iki Trail and after the 400' ascent a cool shower in the house was just the ticket. We went back to the park to view the Kilauea crater glow at 7pm, very impressive and quick access from the house. We appreciate Leslie and Michael sharing this very special place.

I have had a lifelong wish to come to Hawaii. Our stay exceeded every expectation I have ever had. We enjoyed every minute exploring the area and around the Maile Treehouse area. We spent hours in Volcano National Park. After all of our adventures it was such a treat coming back to relax in this beautiful peaceful treehouse. We enjoyed it so much. Drop into a magical home surrounded by trees-a true jungle paradise. Walk in the garden and discover hidden garden "creatures" in nooks and crannies-from ceramic frogs to whimsical tiny mushrooms. Drive a mere few miles to wondrous Volcano National Park. This is definitely a place to enjoy while visiting the BigIsland.
