Inverness house description
The Robin's Nest is a cottage home surrounded by decks and a lovely flower garden and located in the heart of the Point Reyes National Seashore.
The Robin's Nest was built as a hunting and fishing retreat in the 1920's when people came to the area by boat, train and stage coach. It is located in a residential area overlooking Tomales Bay in a sun belt. It is 3 miles from the Point Reyes National Seashore headquarters and the park trail system. It is 2 miles from the town of Point Reyes Station which is the regional center(although only has a population of 500) with restaurants, an excellent grocery store and various shops. The Point Reyes lighthouse is approximately 15 miles out to the coast and provides an excellent vantage point where the whales pass by twice a year .
Inverness Park and the Robin's Nest are 38 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge so it is readily accessible to San Francisco. Because it is located in the National Seashore and along the coast line, it is in a protected zone so the surroundings are rural even though so close to the urban attractions of the Bay Area.
The house has a living room, dining area, kitchen, two bedrooms and two baths. A third bedroom and bath are located in a separate smaller building behind the main house. The two buildings are totally surrounded by approximately 900 square feet of decking which allows for taking full advantage of the outdoors.
There is a sauna and one of the bathrooms in the main house has a steam bath, so getting the ache out after a long run or hike is no problem.
The house is well equipped with a gas grill, TV and VCR (no cable), sound system and comfortable furniture and art work reflecting the Latin American travels of the owners. The kitchen has necessary cooking equipment, a new self cleaning electric stove and basic cooking condiments.
The house is heated by a Vermont castings wood burning stove and there is plenty of fire wood. Electric heaters are available to supplement the wood stove while it heats up.

Our weekend was just FANTASTIC!Guest comment entered by owner
Our weekend was just FANTASTIC!
Our weekend was just FANTASTIC! We were blown away by how nice your place is! Beautiful and calm. You are so nice to have let us stay there this weekend. We really appreciate it. We wish we could have stayed longer! Operationally, everything was perfectly smoothly. We LOVED our dinner at Saltwater Oyster Depot. Every dish, every morsel was yummy. Then today was kayaking on Tomales w one of the tour companies, starting from Nick's Cove ( and we actually debated skipping kayaking in lieu of hanging at Robin's Nest). Our anniversary would not have been nearly as special without a visit to Robin's Nest. We had a lovely time. Thank you so much!

Charming As Promised
Charming As Promised
We spent a few days here last summer, unlike the last reviewer had no trouble finding the place, although it could be kind of tricky if it was dark. It is a lovely place, funky in the best sense of the word. It was very clean, very cozy, and very comfortable. We would go there again in a moment. We had a great meal at Nicks Cove and a few other places as well. It is right near Point Reyes Park and lots to do there.

Beautiful cottage, spacious, quiet location and well-maintained. It was difficult to find though as the route description assumed Highway 101 as the route to get there, not Highway 1. There was no mention of the town, only the street, so we assumed it was Inverness but this combination did not show up on the GPS. It took many phone calls to finally get a hold of the owner around noon, when she told us it might come up under Point Reyes (which it did). The view on Tomales Bay was hard to see from the garden, and Tomales Bay was not much more than a mud pool when we got there. The drive out to the ocean was spectacular though, as were the views from the lighthouse when we finally got there. I'm not sure about restaurants in the area, we cooked ourselves. A car is mandatory - if you can get a 4-wheel-drive, even better.

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful week hiking Pt. Reyes National Seashore, exploring the beaches, eatting oysters and artisan cheeses and shopping in Pt. Reyes Station. The Robin’s Nest was convenient and comfortable for all our activities. The kitchen is very well equipped. We spent many an evening making lovely dinners and watching the beautiful sunsets over the hills across Tomales Bay from the front deck. The guest house was convenient for a girlfriend’s week away. Do not miss the new restaurant in Inverness, Saltwater. Lovely food and reasonably priced. We also enjoyed the Farmers Market in Pt. Reyes Station on Saturday mornings.

Thanks for Sharing Robins Nest
Thanks for sharing the Robins Nest. We enjoyed hearing the rain on the skylights, woodpeckers, windchimes in the wind and songbirds. We are excited to be so close to all the hikes around here. We hope to be back someday soon.

Terrific TimeGuest comment entered by owner
Thank you for welcoming us into the Robins Nest! We had a terrific time. It is such a delightful and pleasant house. We love its character and all of its wordly decorations. We enjoyed many meals her and could not get enough of the views. The hike at Chimney Rock and whale watching at Point Reyes lighthouse was awesome. It truly a memorable weekend! Thanks for making it possible
