My girlfriend and I rented the cottage for new year's weekend to get away from NYC for some relaxation. The cottage itself is incredibly cozy and quaint. It is impeccably decorated and very inviting. The fireplace is great, as well as the kitchen. The upstairs bedrooms are very sweet. I can't say enough good things about how lovely the cottage was. Thomas was very accommodating and helpful, and made it very easy to enjoy ourselves. The location to town is perfect! Great stay, we will be back!Did you find this review helpful? Lovely, Lovely, Lovely. This home feels warm and welcoming as soon as you walk in. It is so cozy and incredibly clean. It is modern where it needs to be while at the same time there are many touches of historical charm. The location cannot be beat. It was really nice to be able to walk to everything in town or take a two minute drive in the opposite direction to the grocery store or pharmacy. Beds are comfy, fireplace is wonderful, washer and dryer a plus. Thank you Thomas. We would love to return soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is a GREAT rental home in New Hope. It's so nice to walk into a place and quickly realize that it's even better than the pictures! The Cottage is a beautiful home and very well maintained with great attention to detail. The location is a short walk to downtown and by short, I mean 2 blocks. Thom (the owner) was a pleasure to deal with and make the transaction seamless. I highly recommend this home as an alternative to a hotel or B&B. I'll be back soon!Did you find this review helpful? Once again, this lovely house right in New Hope, within walking distance to restaurants, shops, history, train ride, and Lambertville, has proved to be the best in many ways: location, size, cleanliness, price..... It had been two years since I had stayed here, and as before, I found everything to be in top condition. L'Occitane soaps, plenty of thick pure white towels and crisp, fresh bed linens. Each time I stay I find something else that defies superlatives. This time, our group comprised three generations ranging in age from 30's to 80's....all girls' trip. Such fun. Thom is a wonderful communicator, too. Thank you, Thom.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We, a family with two kids, aged 13 and 15, from the Netherlands, were very pleased to stay one week in this house. New Hope is a wonderful place to stay. It has all for a week of vacation, beautiful site at the Delaware river. The owner, Thomas, was very kind and helpful. The house was so cosy, clean and well decorated, we loved it very much. Also everything is the house worked properly, it felt like home for us. The house is also much bigger inside, than it looks outside, a lot of space! From new hope we travelled easy to Philadelphia, New York and Princeton, all in small distance. Highly recommended for family with teenagers. To Thomas and New Hope we say a big " Doei " from the Netherlands.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We rented the cottage this past weekend and I am so happy we did! I have visited New Hope a few times in the past but always stayed at a local hotel....never again! The cottage was a dream! Immaculately clean, comfortable, walking distance to everywhere from starbucks and dunkin to Havanas and Lambertville. Perfect for a family or in out case a girls weekend away! The beds were so comfortable and the decor beautiful and just so inviting, we could of stayed forever! My friend was the one who was in contact with the owner, she made the reservations etc. and she told me how great he was to deal with..easy breezy! Can't wait for my/our next visit, hopefully in winter...really wanna sit by that fireplace!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

The cottage was an easy walk to New Hope center and also Lambertville, NJ across the river. Clean, beautifully decorated, with a well-equipped kitchen, very comfortable bed, lovely garden and overall a joy to stay. The area is gorgeous. Make sure to travel the back-roads of Bucks County and rent a bike to ride along the canal towpath. It was also a pleasure to deal with and meet Thomas, the owner. Please know that although the cottage is on a fairly busy road into town, there was no problem with traffic sounds. We slept like babies. We highly recommend all of it.Owner response: Thank you for your kind words. Please come visit again and check out the newly reopened BUCKS COUNTY PLAYHOUSE! Best Regards, Thomas and the staff at The Cottage In New Hope

We stayed 5 nights with our kids. The cottage is gorgeous, spotless and ideally located. Thom, the owner is so friendly and helpful, always had his phone on for us. You will be in a prime location within walking distance to everywhere you want to go. We fell in love with the area and the cottage was a bonus. We couldn't have been happier with the accomodations. Simply perfect!! Thank you Thom. The Cottage in New Hope, put "its arms around us".......for the second time in two years. We parked in the driveway, unlocked the door, poured a glass of wine, turned on the fireplace (& sometimes the TV) and relaxed. The Cottage is bright, cheerful and charmingly decorated. It even has a washer, dryer, central heat AND air. We appreciated Thom's excellent suggestions for places to eat and where to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. As we read all the wonderful comments, there were smiles and head nodding. But, one thing was missing......We found the hidden vegetable garden! Right where Thom said it was--complete with tomatoes, chard, beans, mint and lemon verbena. We heartily recommend this lovely cottage in delightful New Hope, PA.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, pet owners, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It was great to have you stay with us again. Thank you for your kind words! Thomas The Cottage In New Hope

Owner info
About the owner: WHAT House with two bedrooms, one and a half baths. WHERE In New Hope, Bucks County, Pa., about 70 miles from New York City. WHO Thom Smyth, a chef and assistant professor of food at the City University of New York.
Why the Owner Chose New Hope:
“Back in the fever of renovating and flipping houses, my partner and I passed this 175-year-old house. It was the cheapest place in town. So we thought, how can we lose? Well, here’s how: First, it had originally been a two-family house but had six families living in it when we bought it. Second, the contractor called one day to say that he’d just had to remove the entire exterior wall of one side of the house and that, “You’d better get over here with your checkbook.” Three, my partner is a designer, and I can only say that it is a troubling and mind-boggling thing to see what happens when you put a nail gun in the hand of a designer.
In the end the renovation cost as much as the house had. So we thought of renting it. Let me put that differently: Desperate to recover our costs, we thought of renting it.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
What I think we offer is a comforting and attractive in-town house close to the restaurants, bars and shops, and within driving distance of boating and arts events. And of course proximity to the lovely countryside and excellent antiquing that Bucks County is known for.”
