This gorgeous home is ideal for large groups and family reunions, but will also serve well for a luxury-seeking couple who could use the upstairs only. The mountain decor and unique decorating touches make this house feel far more like a friend's vacation home than a rental house.

Rocky Retreat is located in a quiet, wooded, Old Tahoe residential area only a few minutes' walk from a lovely local beach (it takes me a leisurely 5 mins. but I notice that 2 very close rental neighbors claim the beach is only 2 minutes away) and a short drive to 10+ North Tahoe ski/boarding resorts and cross-country ski areas. It combines privacy and serenity with easy accessibility to everything Tahoe has to offer.

The Great Room is expansive but cozy with it's high vaulted ceilings, skylights, and many windows. A stone gas fireplace creates a cozy place where the whole family or group can come together to spend a relaxing evening after a day of fun.

French doors lead from the Great Room & Master Bedroom to a redwood deck with a very small view of the lake, deck furniture & a gas grill. Sunsets over the lake are fabulous from this vantage point.

The large gourmet kitchen is exceptional and is open to the Great Room and gracious dining area, so the cook (or cooks, for the kitchen is spacious enough to provide for many!) will never feel separated from the rest of the group.

Upstairs, on the same level as the Great Room and kitchen, is the Master Bedroom with a large vanity area separate from the bathroom. The adjoining Master Bathroom's shower is huge with 2 showerheads.

Downstairs there are 3 bedrooms and one bathroom (as well as a fully equipped kitchenette -- with a sink which expands the options for tooth brushing, hand washing & primping! )

The Forest Room has a Queen bed + a twin sofa bed. The Bunk Room has 2 sets of log bunk beds as well as a TV/VCR and a computer desk/armoire. The Garden Room has a Queen bed.

The fully enclosed, landscaped garden has a large hot tub, garden furniture and a barbeque as well as a separate, fully enclosed dog run.

Access is level, (& only one block off the highway-- but despite that, very quiet), snow load is lighter than in most parts of the Lake, and parking for 3 cars is easy.

  • We had a WONDERFUL time!! It was my last minute birthday idea, and Gail was wonderful in helping me put it together. We had more than enough space for all 8 of us, and our 2 dogs we brought with us! Everyone had a great time in the hottub which was comfortable for 6, but squeezed in all 8 of us ok:) We made good use of that Viking range in the kitchen too!! The beds were all comfy, and cozy! The house definitely helped make this a memorable birthday for me. I hope they will still be renting it out next year... because I think we just might do this again! Thank you Gail for everything!

  • What a wonderful week we had at Rocky Retreat. The house was so comfortable, lovely furnishings, beautiful fenced yard. Kitchen was well equipped and the dining area made for great family meals and conversation. The walk to the lake is just minutes and the beach was great - perfect for families. We would happily return and do not hesitate to recommend this lovely place!

  • This was a TransAtlantic family reunion for us, with relatives coming in from all over CA and across the Pond. The Rocky Retreat had a great homey feel, a space for the youngest members of the family to bunk down, have their own space to watch tv and play. Nice outdoor patios, with views to enjoy a glass of wine, for the adults to laugh and talk about 'the good old day'. Kitchen was well equipped and a nice large dining area to accomodate lots of people around a big table. Really fun family dinners made this vacation very special for us. The Rocky Retreat is near a small pleasant beach, or a short drive into town. Also near, several casinos if you are into that type of entertainment. The security guard at the Cal-Neva (casino owned by Sinatra) showed us into the back areas of the property where Sinatra and many of the rat pack entertained--very interesting place. We just had a wonderful vacation here, checking out what Tahoe has to offer during the day, hikes, kayaking, rafting etc, and relaxing in the beautiful garden, BBQing and soaking in the hot tub in the evenings. Gail was very helpful during our whole stay and couldn't have been nicer. Bottom line--if you are looking for a great, family oriented place to stay in Tahoe that is beautiful, clean, comfortable, fun and won't wreck your budget, check out the Rocky Retreat. It really does have it all.

  • We truly enjoyed our stay at Rocky Retreat. Your house was so comfortable and accommodated our large group nicely. The kitchen is very well stocked. We had everything we needed. The stove was perfect to cook for our big crowd. The kids had a wonderful time at the beach which was a short walk away. We brought kayaks for everyone to use, but the kids had more fun searching for crawdads. The hot tub worked perfectly at night to relax the kids before bed time. Thank you for your hospitality. We hope we can return again sometime.

  • We stay in Tahoe for a week each year and always somewhere new. Rocky Retreat without a doubt was the best. We will never need to look again, we will be back. Gail High was wonderfully attentive and a pleasure to rent from. This house is perfect, particularly families with young children and babies. If you love to cook you won't want to leave. Only a 5 minute walk to the perfect little beach. Gail, we had a blast. Thanks for the tour of your Rockpile rental, so unique and magical. A gem from days gone by.

  • Rocky Retreat is a wonderful house with a fantastic location. It was particularly great for a family with an infant and 2 dogs as it is "baby-proofed" and has an enclosed yard. The kitchen is very nice and we can't wait for our next visit!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Rocky Retreat. The house is in a great location. I love to cook, so I appreciated all the amenities in the kitchen as well as the professional stove. The master suite bedding was luxury quality. The landlord, Gail, was so accommodating...we could be friends...we loved it so much, we are already booking for next year. I've rented several homes over the years...beach, mountains, etc., and this was one of the best.

  • This place was great. The location was superb. It was really a 5 minute walk to the casinos. The house is very roomy and felt like home. Nice large table for gathering. The outside key was a real plus. Would definitely stay there again.
