Welcome to the sunny Casa del Mezquite, located in the beautiful Mexican colonial town of San Miguel de Allende! This stunning property includes a Mexican-modern 2 bedroom casa with 2.5 bathrooms, plus a detached 1 bedroom casita with kitchen/living that sleeps 2 or more.
Located in the quiet part of the San Antonio neighborhood, off of Orizaba, just blocks from the famed Instituto Allende, where you can study Spanish, art, drawing, jewelry making, stained glass, weaving, photography and much more. All classes offered by the day, week, in groups or private. The house is also an easy walk to the beautiful pink Parroquia (cathedral) and the town's center plaza known as El Jardin.
The main house contains two roomy bedrooms, each with queen size bed, plus gas fireplace, built-in closets, and luxurious private bathrooms.
The house was built by two cooks, thus the spacious modern kitchen and dining room with its own fireplace. The large living room has dramatic 2-story windows on the south and north ends for an open and light atmosphere. Nothing dark here!
The kitchen and living room open to another patio with the green and blue outdoor bar and the stained glass window of Mexico's famous agave plant.
Property comes with maid, cooking, and grocery shopping service 3 days a week, and a property manager on call as needed.
The casita in back has a full wall of french doors with a bedroom with queen size bed, built-in closet cabinetry; bathroom with shower; a complete kitchen with sitting area, and a large patio and hammock. The kitchen sitting area has 2 twin beds to be used as couches or extra sleeping.
Outside you'll enjoy a front entrance patio and a beautifully landscaped backyard, where you'll find the oldest mezquite tree in the neighborhood. Imagine the changes this 100-year old tree has seen in Mexico...starting its life in approx 1907! The roof terrace has a panoramic view of the stunning Parroquia, the nearby hills and 4 other historic churches. (The garage can be available upon request.)
Young children under 10 not advised due to heights of balconies. Well-behaved pets are welcome, and we ask for smoking outside only.

I have just returned from renting Casa del Mezquite for the month of March. I know San Miguel very well (my parents live here) and had the opportunity to look at over 6 houses last year in choosing this one. Of all the houses I saw in person, this was the one I liked the most and it was also the least expensive. I think it's a great value. While the photos are good, they still cannot do the house justice. It is a very beautiful house full of light and color. It feels very spacious because of it's open lay-out.The owners clearly took a great deal of care in designing the house and they have excellent taste. Good light is very important to me and this house (and the casita) get light all day long. That being said, when you come home at around 3:00 and it's very hot outside, the living room is very cool and a welcome oasis. I had guests during my month and all of them were thrilled. The casita gives guests privacy. The third bedroom while smaller than master is still very nice. I also fell in love with the neighborhood. It felt very vibrant with mothers taking their kids to school in the mornings, people just hanging out. Seemed like a very good mixture of Mexicans and Americans/Canadians. It was an easy walk (about 20 minutes) to the Jcenter of town. I would highly recommend this property.
Owner response:Thank you for your very nice review! We too love our house, casita and neighborhood...and are always happy to share it great renters such as yourself. We hope you'll stay with us again in the future, and tell all your friends! bb

We enjoyed this house for 4 months and found it to be comfortable, well located and well served by the part-time staff. Best of all the house has a lovely ambience, and is a beautiful, sunny welcoming space to come home to.

This attractive home is comfortably furnished and immaculately maintained. The maid was efficient, helpful, and pleasant. Any maintenance problems were quickly attended to by the local manager. The gas fireplaces were most welcome during a spell of cool weather. It was a pleasant walk to the Jardin and the bridge club. The casita was perfect for visiting guests - the privacy it afforded was appreciated by all. We thoroughly enjoyed our home away from home.

My husband and I have stayed at Casa Del Mezquite several times and have thoroughly enjoyed the house and the neighborhood each time. The home is beautiful, gracious and comfortable. There are many sunny places to sit indoors and outdoors. In the evening, we liked to sit on the roof and look at the lights of the town and watch the frequent firework displays. There are several very good restaurants within a few blocks. My husband and I enjoyed the walk to El Centro or sometimes took an inexpensive taxi.
