Wine Country Stone Lodge in State Park
- Minimum stay:2-4 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
Be sure to click the video links below. This one of a kind stone lodge is located in the very heart of the Sonoma Valley. 2 stone fireplaces, professional kitchen, wine bar, chemical free lap pool, waterfall, 8 person spa/hot tub, stone fire pit with extensive outdoor lounging and dining areas plus a bocce ball court.
WE NOW HAVE ACCESS TO A RURAL EVENT FACILITY OR CAN HELP YOU LOCATE A BACK-ROADS VENUE OF CHOICE.
We have our own CULINARY & WINE EXPERTS on staff offering guests access to a vanguard experience of boutique wines and wineries, state of the art farmers/ranchers, and brings all these elements together via tours, cooking classes, private tastings/pairings and meals or events - tailor made to each groups predilections and schedules.
The house is 4000 square feet including 4 bedrooms/4 bathrooms in the main house and 1/1 in a separate but nearby guest cottage with its own full kitchen. All 5 bathrooms are en-suite and many have over-sized soaking tubs with showers. The master has a steam shower and 2 person tub. There is a separate theater room with 70' led screen, surround sound system and deep lounge seating. We have a caretaker who lives down the road and thus you can be assured of better service than from most vacation rentals.
The kitchen is vast with 2 islands, 2 dishwashers, requisite commercial equipment including a 6 burner Viking range with grill and full compliment of cooking tools and serving dishes. An adjacent 14 foot wine bar with temperature controlled refrigeration. A unique feature is the outdoor fire-pit (can also be used for cooking) under 150 foot tall fir trees which has both a propane and charcoal grills. A fabulous place to gather around a roaring fire as well as to cook or dine. If you want to relax completely we can arrange for our housekeeper to visit; Laura and Eric our private chefs can provide private meals or prepared food and catering as you prefer.
This is an interior designer's private residence; rustic, country French antiques abound with an easy 'feet up' level of comfort and ease throughout. It is situated just off the main valley floor, at the mouth of a granite canyon which becomes a state park, Sugar Loaf. The great room with mammoth old-world stone fireplace soars above 18 feet. The locally quarried stone walls are over 1' thick, providing luxurious natural air conditioning. The outdoor splendor merges with the indoors as all the front-facing first floor windows bifold back to open completely; secluded and picturesque. There are endless views to the forested peaks of the nearby state park. It is a 5 minute walk to famous wineries (Landmark, Chateau St Jean); hiking and horseback riding are just up the road. The world famous Kenwood Inn and Spa is just down the lane.
This lodge is equally splendid in summer or winter. When the rainy season starts in late fall, the nearby creek fills significantly and rushes by to the valley floor. It can sound like Niagara Falls is across the way; truly delightful. The nights are often cool enough even in the summer to use the fireplaces and fire-pit but they are wonderful in the fall winter and early spring.
12 miles from Sonoma Plaza, 10 miles to Santa Rosa; 30 minutes to the Russian River and Napa valley, 1.25 hours to San Francisco,Oakland or Sacramento airports. Santa Rosa airport is only 20 minutes away and now has nonstop flights from LAX, Las Vegas and Seattle.

I really loved the spaciousness of this place and the kitchen can fit an army in it! All the bedrooms were comfortable and roomy and unique in its own style. Loved the old world charm and the media room was awesome! Enough to hold 7 crazy ladies watching Bridesmaids! The outdoor pool area was comfortable and very pretty and the pool was just right once it was heated to a comfortable 85 degreees. A must visit if you have a large party. Particularly awesome if you want to hang with your girlfriends! You are never underfoot in this house!Recommended for: Girls getaway.

I spent a long weekend at the property with my 4 sons and their families. Beautiful location. Big trees and lots of privacy. Huge fireplace in living room and in one of the bedrooms downstairs. We lucked out with the weather this time of year so we could use the fireplaces and firepit outside at night. All the furniture is really, really comfortable, inside and out. We were given comprehensive info about the area and the services provided. The caretaker is very helpful and pleasant. My family hopes to make it an annual event there!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our group of 10 from Ohio thoroughly enjoyed the "indulgence" of this large and welcoming property. We celebrated a couple of "50th" b-days with family & friends and enjoyed everything from the firepit and hot tub to the spacious kitchen. We hired a caterer from the Culinary Institute in Napa one evening, cooked in another, and had a remarkable meal at the Fig Cafe in Glen Ellen. We hiked in the mornings at Sugar Loaf and enjoyed many a winery from Healdsburg to Sonoma to Napa. (Phelps was my favorite.) Highly recommend Donna's driving service if you want to imbibe. Ray was great about having our fireplaces "match ready". Perfect spot for your large group. Blair is fabulous about providing recommendations for whatever you might need. A trip of a lifetime; only wish it was longer!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We highly recommend this home. Every year we stay at a different location with a large group for wine tasting in the CA wine country. This home was amazing and ranks as one of my top two locations. The kitchen had every amenity needed. We enjoyed each night around the outdoor firepit or gathered around the indoor large fireplace with comfortable seating. The neighborhood was quiet and was excellent for walks to the park in the morning. Thankful for sharing your beautiful estate with us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This house is a wonderful retreat, close to everything in Sonoma and perfect for a large group. We spent most of our time (when not wine tasting) lounging around the pool in the great "conversation area" or sitting around the fire pit in the evening. The house met or exceeded our expectations in every way, it was spotless, well furnished with everything imaginable that we would need, and we were well taken care of by Ray, the manager. The house works in every season, the outdoor living areas are as gracious as the indoor living areas. We can't wait to visit again, maybe in winter the next time.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

What an great trip & an amazing house! We had a group of 10 great friends on this trip to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday. The location in Sonoma was perfect.....secluded & private but yet so close to great wineries. The home was in perfect condition with all the fireplaces prepared for us. (thanks to Ray) The kitchen is the best place in the house. We ate & drank there together for hours on end. The hot tub underneath the massive trees was spectacular and a great place to unwind at the end of a perfect day of wine tasting. We all highly recommend this wonderful home for all types of trips. We all have amazing, lasting memories from this trip & staying at this beautiful home made the trip even more memorable.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Our group will definitely return to this home in the wine country. All you could ask for is here...spacious, well equipped, luxurious, comfortable, ideal location, great owner, great caretaker and the list goes on. The outdoor setting is truly paradise. We hiked up to the state park, swam in the pool, relaxed in the hot tub, built fires at breakfast and dinner and ate our meals on the patio. We drove to Sonoma, Healdsburg and Napa for wine tasting. We shopped at several local grocery stores and made many meals at home, and we even had a Ben (The Bachelor) sighting in town. If you like to cook, be outdoors or just want a great central location for wine tasting this home has something for everyobody. Would be perfect for families, couples, groups or whatever. Enjoy!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This property is perfect for a family reunion, which is why we stayed there June 24-30, 2012. It is spacious, well-appointed and comfortable. The pictures don't do it justice! It is located in the heart of wine country and is clean and decorated professionally. Each bedroom has a personality of it's own and the master suite is truly something to write home about. We used the pool, the hot tub, the bocci ball court and the outdoor fire pit each day. The handyman, Ray, is very nice and helpful. The living area is huge and the kitchen is well-stocked. Good restaurants are nearby.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: I am interior designer trained in both the US and France. In 1999 I totally gutted and rebuilt this solid stone house, making sure it retained all the beauty of the original structure but included all the comforts of a brand new home. Because my background is specifically in hospitality design, I think you will find that I have done well to anticipate the guests' needs as they come to the house for profound rest and relaxation as well as to partake of the wonders of the Valley of The Moon.
Why the Owner Chose Sonoma:
This location is in the heart of the Sonoma Valley, also known as the Valley of the Moon. To me it is the most beautiful section of the Sonoma Valley. This lot is located in a canyon, the only such geographical particulars of its type in Sonoma. The Canyon provides cool and shade in the relative extreme heat of the Sonoma summers. Everything is green and cool in the shelter of Adobe Canyon in the summer and fall while the Valley is burnt and arid, grass-less hills and dusty heat. Views are spectacular to the state park that surrounds this rural location. It is so dark at night you can't see to walk without the moon and the stars are huge and ever-so bright. The house construction was started in about 1949 by a crazy naturalist who continuously added on to the property for the next 10 years or so. They did a lot of hunting in the valley up till the 1960's. There is a cement block shed behind the house that was a walk in cooler where they hung the deer and mountain lion carcasses. We still have some mountain lion in the area -but they stay up in the park, never any problem. If they find any bear they trap them and take them up to Lake County. What is now the guest cottage was actually built to house racoons - luckily they had long departed when I took possession in 1998. The original owner had also started a tunnel under the little Adobe Canyon Rd so all the animals (who he sometimes hunted) could cross to get water in the creek. This is rather an indication of his eccentricity as even today there is not any traffic to speak of on this road for it has no outlet beyond the state park itself. I gutted the entire house in 1999. The trusses and wood ceiling in the great room were put in at that time.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The uniqueness of the solid stone-walled lodge is beyond compare. The kitchen is quite large and is a unique experience, part of one vast great room measuring over 1000 square feet with splendid views. With adjoining 14' French wine bar and enormous fireplace, this unique structure affords a one-of-a-kind gathering place for friends and family.
