0.1 Miles
Nearest Beach
Crescent Beach

Car: Necessary

Our place is just south of St. Augustine which is a historical treasure complete with tons of history, the Castillo de San Marco fort, fine dining and great shops. Crescent Beach is a wide and uncrowded beach just across A1A from our condo and is accessible via a public walkover. Just down Green St. from our place is the intercoastal waterway accessible via a public ramp and dock that offerss great access to this waterway. Ft. Matanzas State Park is a few miles south and is a nice detour. You can hear the local history as you cross the intercoastal in a small ferry to visit the fort. Matanzas Inlet is a mile further south with great fishing in the cut. A few miles south of Matanzas is Marineland where you can swim with dolphins (reservations advised!). Our place is less than an hour north of Daytona Beach and speedway and about two hours north east of Orlando, Disney, Sea World, Universal, etc. making day trips possible.

The tour companies that show you St. Augustine are a good place to start. They stop at 15-20 different stops and during the trip give you history, interesting sites, etc. Nice orientation to the area and not too expensive. St George St. is one of our favorites. It is blocked to vehicle traffic, located right across from the Castillo de San Marco, the large fort in downtown. St. George St. has lots of little shops for jewelry, hats, sunglasses, ice cream, candy cigars, restaurants, etc. The Spanish bakery is a great little lunch stop on St. George with empanadas and other flaky baked goods/cookies.

Castillo de San Marco is the large fort on the water in St. Augustine and the fort tour gives some history of St. Augustine.

For fishing, I fish off the boat ramp dock just down Green St. behind the condo. I seldom catch edible fish, sometimes some Whiting, but catch big catfish which give a good fight. You can get all your fishing supplies, including fishing licenses at Devil's Elbow and the man and woman that own it will tell you what is biting and where to find them. Surf fishing is a good option also and is pretty good anywhere along the beach. Not uncommon to catch whiting or blues in the surf. Whiting are delicious! If you want to go offshore, we've done the Sea Love charters in St. Augustine which you'll have to look up to find their current dock location. It is about $85/day/person

On restaurants, we like Oasis, 3 miles north on the right. Casual but good local seafood and the bar upstairs has live music on the weekends. For fine dining, South Beach grill at the main ramp of Crescent Beach (.5 miles north on right) has tables overlooking the ocean (2nd floor). Salt Water Cowboys is nice also and is north about three miles, left on Dondeville Road which deadends at the marsh which the restaurant overlooks. A little further north in St. Augustine is Conch House with great seafood on water. it is on a side street just past the Light House going north, look for the sign.

Hope these tips help you enjoy your stay!

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2007

About the owner: Married professionals of thirty years with four older children, two boys, two girls in their teens and twenties.

Why the Owner Chose Crescent Beach:
Great beach and intercoastal access for much less than waterfront prices makes our place a great value. Location is right between the beach and intercoastal waterway on a narrow part of Anastasia Island. We have friends and family in the area so we bought this unit for frequent visits. It is nicer and kept nicer than many rentals because we visit it often. Crescent Beach is beautiful and we never tire of St. Augustine. We hope to retire here one day soon. Great beach and surf, outstanding fishing and sightseeing, wonderful resturants and great local people and beach culture. We love running/walking on an uncrowded beach, fishing in the intercoastal, watching dolphins swim by, eating amazing seafood at the local many reasons, so much to enjoy!

The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Great value because it is a very short walk to beach and intercoastal both accessible via public access (beach walkover and public boat dock/ramp). Unit is in a quiet complex with most units occupied by permanent residents. Nice pool with lounge chairs and grills and lighted tennis courts that were resurfaced Spring 2010.
