Our third time at this wonderful house

Guest: Brad & family (AB & SK, Canada)
Date of Stay: 12/30/11 Review Submitted: 02/13/12

For everyone looking at this house, stop looking and phone Linda and Harry and book it up before someone else gets it. This was our THIRD stay at their house by the sea. We love it in Maui and this place just feels like home. The house is amazing and the pictures don't do it justice. It's in pristine shape and is by far better than anyone expects for the price. Harry and Linda go so far above and beyond for this rental place. They meet you at the house with the lovely welcome basket. They are both friendly and helpful and will give you lots of local advice. The house has everything you need, except a toothbrush! Pack light. If your an unfortunate one that has to work while on vacation the high speed internet and long distance package on the phone is great. As usualy they spoiled our kids with little toys. The front yard is huge and our kids got some of their energy out by running around. The new lanai is amazing. What a HUGE improvement. We spent every morning on it drinking coffee and watching the ocean. We ate supper many times outside also. So peaceful. The stamped concrete is warm on the feet even at 10 at night. I tell everyone about this place. The house itself, the location and Harry and Linda make this the best rental place in Kihei. Thanks again for an amazing place!

Wonderful experience at this property

My wife and I, together with 9 other relatives and friends, stayed here (and the 2-br cottage) during our wedding week. We enjoyed every minute of it. The place has almost everything we needed (even 2 rice cookers! perfect for asian visitors). The location is also very convenient: it's a 20 min drive to the airport, half an hour drive to Lahaina, right across the South Kihei road is a public beach with excellent sunset views. Linda and Harry have been very helpful even before we arrived, they suggested a number of local wedding service providers and caterers. We ended up having our reception dinner in the front yard of the house. It was gorgeous! Linda even provided us with decoration lights, table clothes, champaign glasses and many more! (the following is in mandarin Chinese) ???????????????Linda?Harry?????????????????????????????????????????????Maui????????????

We had the pleasure of staying in this BEAUTIFUL house for 8 days in August 2011. It was fabulous! The house was gorgeous with a wonderful view. The house was spotless - the owners are amazing and I can't wait to go back. I will tell all my friends and family that plan to go to Maui to stay here. They'll love it!

We stayed at Linda and Harry's place in April 2011. This place was perfect for 2 families with small children. The yard was our saving grace! When the kids were restless, they ran around in the expansive yard. We enjoyed the lanai every night, and peace and serenity of being on the fringe of Kihei. We are planning our return trip and stay at the house by the sea!

We couldn't have asked for more! Harry & Linda are wonderful hosts to a beautiful home. We found the house to be even more than we expected. These folks really go out of their way to see that their guests are not only comfortable, but they anticipate the needs and wants you may have while you stay. Toys, a well supplied kitchen, tons of towels and beach towels, fruit trees to pick from, movies...it was awesome! They even helped us to host a wedding reception. Thanks so much for a great visit! We hope to come again sometime.

We stayed here Sept. 4th-11th with 2 other couples. Linda and Harry were there to greet us when we arrived and were most helpful. The gift basket of Island goodies they left us was incredible. They also showed us around to make sure we knew how everything worked. This was my husband and I's 5th trip to Maui and all the other times we rented condos, never again, after staying in this wonderful beach home we are hooked. Can't wait to come back!! Harry and Linda a HUGE Mahalo for providing us with such a clean, comfortable and peaceful place to spend our vacation.

A Little Piece of Heaven !!

Wow doesn't begin to cover our experience at Linda and Harry's beautiful home. We were warmly welcomed upon our arrival with a lovely basket of goodies and Linda's delicious mango bread (I bought some at the swap meet and it paled by comparison) First thing in the morning we would be outside having our coffee and gazing at the beautiful views.....and our evenings ended outside with a glass of wine gazing at the amazing sunsets and then enjoying the stars. In between we snorkeled, boogie boarded, swam, shopped and toured this magical island. Dont miss Iao valley....a lovely side trip. Just a heads up to people coming to Maui....avoid Boss Frogs if you want to rent snorkel equipment. They are all about time shares and we wasted nearly an hour there. The fellow we dealt with refused to accept that we didnt want to attend a time-share. He was rude and aggressive. Unless you want to waste your time dont go there !! Harry and Linda have everything that you could want. From shampoo to boogie boards, you would be hard pressed to think of anything that they have left out. The kitchen is well stocked and the home is very clean. There were six of us staying at the house and the hot water on demand was so helpful....never a cold shower. Individual controls for the air conditioning made it comfortable and each couple was able to have it their way. We will definitely recommend this home to family and friends. We are hoping to come back again but this time for 2 weeks....one week just want enough!! A very big Mahalo Linda and Harry .....you two are the best!!

My first trip to Maui and now I think I am spoiled for life. This home (it really feels like it) is so well stocked, you won't believe what they have available for you. Our family of 17 rented the house, cottage and bungalow and had plenty of space while still being close enough to share all of our meals (which is a HUGE money saver in Hawaii). The location is ideal for day trips anywhere on the island. The beach is steps away and we were in a few hours after arriving. It can get very windy in the afternoon, but that keeps it cool. Don't miss this great vacation rental. You won't want to leave and the only thing I am sad about is that I am now home and not there.

Our Second Home!

Date of Stay: 04/19/10 Review Submitted: 10/25/11

It doesn't surprise me there are so many amazing reviews! We are returning for the third time this Dec/Jan and are so excited! We truly feel that this is like a second home for us. We have never ever returned to the same place twice - destination or rental property. So that should indicate what a great place this is for us. Maui in general is amazing and we love Kihei because there's so much to offer and it's less windy/rainy than the northern part of the island (although the weather has always been beautiful when we've been there). It's also very close to Lahaina and Wailea for driving. Thank you so much Linda and Harry for maintaining your property so beautifully and taking care of us!! We love it there so much and are soooo excited to be coming back! We will never stay anywhere else. ~Brad, Janice, Krista, Darren, Karen & Tim

3 weeks of pure relaxation

Guest: Dianne and Harry (Bainbridge Island, Washington)
Date of Stay: 02/10/10 Review Submitted: 03/28/10

We recently returned from a 3 week vacation at Hale Ma Ke Kai, The House by the Sea. We were met by our hosts, Linda and Harry, who presented us with an enormous basket of goodies as a welcome gift. The pineapple, papaya, coconut, coffee, sweets, and especially Linda's fantastic mango bread were both delicious and appreciated. The home is directly across the street from the ocean, with a clean, long, swimming and walking beach. We found the home to be immaculate, and the furnishings were both comfortable and tasteful. The kitchen was so well stocked that I didn't even have to buy wooden skewers for shish-ka-bob. Even band-aids and toothpicks were there when needed. We appreciated the individual air conditioners in the living room and each bedroom, although, with the ceiling fans, we rarely used them. We never saw so many extras, and we've rented several vacation homes in the islands. Harry and Linda seemed more like old friends than landlords. We were there during the Tsunami (that never happened), and they called us before sunrise to alert us, and even offered their home to us if needed. Each day we arose, drank our coffee at the dining table and watched an incredibly large number of humpback whales frolic in the ocean. Then each evening, we enjoyed watching the beautiful Maui sunsets from the home or the beach. The two other cottages on the property were of the same high quality as the home, and we would probably rent the two bedroom one if we return without guests. Thanks again Harry and Linda for your gracious hospitality, and we will definitely stay at your home when we return to Maui. Dianne and Harry

We stayed in the "big" house, we had other family in the two bedroom bungalow and we had close friends in the one bedroom bungalow. None of us could believe what a great place we were staying in!! The big front yard was wonderful, just steps from a beautiful, quiet beach. Nearly every single day, we'd walk over to the beach, lay in the sun, play in the ocean and then head back over to the house to play out in the yard. We grilled out and enjoyed many evening meals outside just enjoying the beautiful weather, watching the sun set. All three of the properties were immaculate. Clean as could be and beautifully decorated. The pictures on the website and the descriptions don't do this property justice. You'd just have to see it to believe it. We've already said that if/when we come back to Maui, we'll stay here again....without question. This place is so wonderful, that we will arrange our dates to make sure this is where we'll stay.

DO NOT MISS THIS HOUSE! This beach home is far and away the most beautiful, well appointed and meticulously managed rental we've ever seen. It is so flawless that we actually thought we were the first renters. Harry and Linda are incredible hosts; they made us feel welcomed and gave us just the right amount of personal care. We walked on the beach for hours, barbequed on the grill facing the ocean, and we picnicked on the huge front lawn, while we watched the sun set over the water. Incredible. And the price was great. We got more than our money's worth. My advice is to reserve it quickly, because this home will soon be so popular, it will be difficult to get.

Harry and Linda are extraordinary! They make your vacation more than just rental a house... truly making it a home away from home! From the welcome basket with local favorites, to the little extras we found around the house, it was a wonderful experience all the way around! A perfect place for a family or small group, with a 2nd property right next door! Everything was at our fingertips! The house is set off the road, and just across the street is a quiet beach, where we were often the other sunbathers! Proximity to the tourist strip, airport, road to Hana, etc. This is the perfect location - practically smack in the middle of it all! Call Linda and Harry before they book up for the season!

If you are planning a trip to Maui, this home is a wonderful place to stay. All the reviews posted on-line are absolutely true. The service was exceptionally personable and friendly. The house was super clean and we would recommend it to anyone. The shed full of coolers, beach chairs, etc was awesome. A special thanks to Linda and Harry for the small gifts that they gave our three teenage daughters. They were perfect. The craft book on palm tree leaf weaving was also a big hit with our kids as they spent hours weaving baskets in the front yard. We were 8 people in this home with parents and teenage kids. We had ample room and used the home as our own. The location made getting around very easy and the recommendations made by the owners was appreciated and useful. There is also a house in the back of the property that we were able to look at. It is a 2 bedroom home which is just as nice as the larger home and would be great if we visited as a smaller group. When we go back, we will definitely be calling Harry and Linda.

Harry and Linda’s house by the sea. WOW! There are no other words to explain this house and our Maui vacation. From the first email to each phone call with Harry or Linda, the experience was great. Communication with Harry or Linda from the start was fast, and very easy. When we landed in Maui we phoned Harry and he personally met us at the house to show us around and give us a few tips. In the house we found a welcome basket full of fresh Maui fruit and a bunch of local candy. Harry and Linda’s special mango bread was a real treat. Harry was around working on another house, so we got to visit with him and meet Linda. Harry is easy to get along with and they are both great people. They gave us lots of tips and advice and it was nice to get a local’s opinion instead of reading about something online. The house was stocked with way more than we could have ever expected. The kitchen has every type of cooking tool, spices, oil, sugar, saran wrap, etc. They even stocked the fridge with some water and juice. In the back is a BBQ. Amazing.! Our group consisted of 6 adults and 1 child and there was plenty of room for all of us. The 3 bathrooms were very convenient with nice large showers. The bathrooms were even fully stocked. Forgot something at home? Don’t worry, Harry and Linda probably have you covered. The living room has lots of DVD’s and games to keep you entertained. They have a shed in the back with many beach toys, chairs, mats, and some snorkeling items. They have beach bags, towels, and even extra sunscreen. The front yard was amazing – perfect for some of the lawn games they also keep in the shed! It is huge and the ocean view is amazing. We even got to see whales from the house. Sitting outside to eat lunch was so great. They truly make their house very special. We felt very at home in their house right from the first day. The style, decorations and cleanliness were 5 stars. We truly recommend this house to anyone. We will definitely be staying here again as soon as we are able to go back. On a side note, they also have a cottage for rent behind this oceanfront house, and Harry gave us a tour. It is to the exact same standards. Keep up the great work Harry and Linda! It truly was a vacation “home away from home” for us!

We stayed here again this year. After the first visit, we had to come back again. When we walked into the house, it felt like we had never left. We felt so at home. We also rented the cottage this year as we had more family (it's just as nice as the house). Another great vacation with a great home. There is nothing to really say that hasn't been said. This place is great and Harry and Linda go out of their way to make you feel at home. They spoiled our kids and really do feel like family. There is a guest book in the house and it has pages and pages of positive reviews and thanks to Harry and Linda. The beach is always quiet and there are no resorts close to the house, so you always have peace and quiet. You won't find a nicer place, with the view, personal touches and price in Kihei. Thanks again Harry and Linda for making our vacation another great time. Someday we hope to be back.

We just spent 7 wonderful nights at this home and the experience was great. Very clean, fully stocked to the point of shampoo, soap supplies and everything you could want for a beach house. The owners were available to answer all questions and to assist if need be. The location is perfect for the trip to the airport and into the heart of Kihei. I can't say enough about our experience.

A great base for island exploring.

Date of Stay: 01/23/09 Review Submitted: 02/03/09

We've read the first two reviews and they are quite accurate so we don't have much to add about the accommodations except to say they are "primo", + free unlimited beachcombing. We had champagne on the beach, watched the sunsets and came to think of the place as our own, and for a few glorious days it was. This home is centrally located and convenient to everything on the island, except Hana of course, nothing is close to Hana, but WE SURVIVED that adventure, what a road! Our side trips to Lahaina and Kaanapali, even up to the crater, the Iao Rainforest and down to Wailea beach were all very easy from here. Be sure to follow Linda's tips about the Pacific Whale Foundation, we took their whale watching excursion, saw many Humpbacks and lots of dolphin. We also enjoyed their early morning snorkel voyage to Molokini, featuring many colorful tropical fish on reef and one mean old Moray Eel. We really enjoyed the Old Lahaina Luau, island history told by talented (and scantily clad) dancers and musicians, the food and drink was wonderful too. The other nights we used the grill and kitchen and enjoyed dinner and companionship around the table with a view, seats up to 8, we $aved a bundle. (Question: What to Humpback Whales eat when they visit Maui? Answer: Nothing, it's too expensive.) We're HomeAway veterans of Orlando, Vegas and Branson. Mo., but this Maui home is by far the best equipped of those we have stayed in, especially the kitchen, these hosts have thought of everything. Be sure to bring you favorite CDs, there are plenty of players, but go to sleep with the sounds of the surf. We hope we are able to return to Hale Ma Ke Kai soon. Going to Maui? Stay here. A hui hou. Paradise Found!

Our family has been going to Maui for the past ten years. We have always stayed in 2 - 3 condominiums (as we were afraid of spending too much time together in small spaces). After staying at Hale Ma Ke Kai, we will never stay any place else. The property is exceptional. Wide open spaces inside and outside. There were 8 of us, and always plenty of room. The house is beautifully decorated and the amenities are endless. Awesome kitchen, large bedrooms and bathrooms to die for. Every bedroom had a flat screen TV, with cable, VCR and DVD. Every room had it's own quiet AC unit. The living room had a large flat screen TV with all the bells a whistles. The dining room had a extra large table. The most amazing views of the ocean can be seen from the kitchen, dining room, living room and one of the master bedrooms. The ocean breeze moving though the palms is the back ground music of your stay. You can hear the ocean from the breaking waves. We enjoyed sleeping with the windows open. AWESOME! There was the most amazing gift basket of local goodies, souvenirs, fresh pineapple, coconut, papaya and oranges. The mango bread was will make smile and wish for more. The shed in the back has beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear, boogie boards, mats, coolers and yard games. I enjoyed being 50 yards from the ocean. We met the neighbors who are so very nice and friendly. Fell in love with Gumby, the local Rottweiller who makes dog angles in the sand. Thank you for allowing us to stay. It was one of our best family vacations ever

Owner response:Thank you Robin and family for staying with us at Hale Ma Ke Kai! We are glad that you found everything you needed or wanted and to your liking. We enjoyed meeting and talking to all of you and we hope you will come back again! The mango bread will be waiting for you! Harry and Linda

From Nov. 9th to 16th 2008 our family rented Hale Ma Ke Kai. During this time we hosted family & friends who were in Maui to attend our daughter and son-in-law's wedding. This was truly a Home Away from Home. We cannot think of more thing that could have been provided. Linda & Harry were so accommodating & such gracious hosts. They welcomed us as family. We truly want to thank them for their hospitality that went above & beyond our expectations. From their very first contact with us they tried to please when many other properties did not. We recommend this as a beautiful property to call home during your visit to Maui.

Owner response:Thank you Loren & Mil for taking a chance and staying with us! I hope you enjoyed the home grown Hawaiian oranges from the tree in the back yard! Harry and Linda

PERFECT HOME AWAY FROM HOME!

Guest: First Time Renter (Reno, NV)
Date of Stay: 09/26/07 Review Submitted: 05/21/08

This property was the first that I had ever rented via an internet website, and after vacationing here I am COMPLETELY spoiled! The owners, Linda and Harry, are such warm, accomodating people that they have made this rental into literally a "home away from home"! The home and ground are extremely clean and well maintained. We NEVER saw any bugs in the house or on the grounds! They have everything (and MORE) that you would need for a comfortable vacation in Maui! I couldn't believe that Linda even provided a salad spinner for our use! But its not just the extras in the kitchen that make it feel like home, but also all the extra decorations and small touches throughout the house that really makes you feel as though you are in your own vacation home! They have strategically placed night lights throughout the house so you can see where you are going at night. The wireless internet service and large TV was just perfect for the entire family. The fact that they have air conditioning in all the bedrooms AND the front room made it very comfortable for my folks who are from the Bay Area They provide ALOT of extra towels, both for the beach and the bathroom, plus everything you would need for any outdoor activity you wish to engage in (several portable coolers, beach chairs & umbrellas, beach toys, etc.). On top of everything they do for you within the house, you also have the most spectacular view of the ocean and sunsets! We were literally taking pictures almost every night of the sunsets as they were so beautiful! There is nothing across the street to obstruct your view and the beach is easy to get to. I was with my parents who are in their 80's and, though they are completely mobile, they just LOVED the comfort of this home! I cannot say enough about it except the fact that this "home" is definitely worth every penny that you pay for its use (AND MORE!!).
