Owner's Map of New Haven
We moved to Branford after living in New Haven and nearby Shoreline towns for many years. We found Branford to offer the best of all worlds, with a scenic coast reminiscent of Maine, a historical village center with great restaurants and lovely town green, all located a short distance from New Haven and Yale, with all the cultural amenities they offer. When the house we now call The Ledge Retreat became available we immediately saw its potential as a very special property built against a striking granite bluff and wanted to be able to share this with others who could appreciate its beauty. See its listing and the many rave reviews by checking vrbo listing #190548. Guests who enjoyed the Ledge Retreat and our Elinor Marsh Cottage will like Old Smugglers as well.

Beautiful Home For The Holidays

I cannot recommend this home and location enough! We spent a week here over the holidays and it was the perfect oasis. The amenities were outstanding, the bedrooms were luxurious and the kitchen was wonderful. As mentioned before, the floor plan is gorgeously spacious and open. Six adults were more than able to comfortably maneuver around each other without any headaches. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood with grocery stores seemingly just around the corner. Branford itself was an ideal spot for us as we needed to pick up some last minute gifts and we found that New Haven has the loveliest boutiques. The owners, Blair and Barbara thought of everything and couldn't have been nicer to deal with. We would wholeheartedly recommend this property to anyone!

The description of this house does not do it justice because it cannot convey how liveable and comfortable it is. The open floor plan and abundant windows make it seem airy and spacious, and the interesting art work provides visual delight. Of all the vrbo homes we have visited, my husband and I agree that this is the one we would most enjoy living in. It was meticulously clean and functional, providing every amenity one could possibly require. The owner was exceptionally helpful and pleasant to deal with, even going so far as to turn on lights and music for our arrival and providing breakfast for the first morning. He answered every question we had and researched the answers to those he did not know immediately. The home's location was ideal - within walking distance to the beach and a park. Branford is home to many good restaurants and has a nice small town feel. Yale is nearby, and provides so many cultural opportunites that one should never be bored.

We spent a week at this Branford home and it was wonderful. The house is immaculate and beautifully furnished. Everything is modern, the hardwood floors are gorgeous and the paintings and other artwork are great. The house also has a fireplace that's cozy and pretty. As beautiful as it is, the house would be very comfortable for a family with children (there were only two of us staying there). We did a lot of entertaining (typically 8-10 people at a time) and everyone loved the place. The house is spacious and open, so there was plenty of room to have people in for brunches, dinners, etc. We found the Harbor Market close by and they provided the food at a very reasonable cost for our get-togethers with relatives and friends. This made everything easy. The house is about 5 minutes from the beach by car and 15 minutes away from New Haven. The deck is great, there are bikes in the garage, it's quiet, and the owner is very hospitable, leaving English muffins, juice and other goodies in the fridge so we wouldn't be hungry after our late arrival from the West Coast. We loved this place and look forward to spending more time there on our next Connecticut vacation.

This was a terrific space for a reunion of retired college roommates. The house is spacious, welcoming, and fully equipped for everything from cooking and dining to watching old movies and catching up on email. The art work, the wide open space design and the furnishings are first class. The beds are very comfortable and the site is beautiful. The owners thoughtfully provided some provisions for a first morning breakfast and left information about local restaurants and other attractions. This is a great getaway location, in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to local towns, beaches, and the city of New Haven. We highly recommend it.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at this cottage while visiting our son at Yale. The house had everything we needed, including internet access and the added bonus of being close to the campus. We especially enjoyed viewing the wildlife in the marsh The owners were great and very accommodating. We will definitely be back.
