Although this cabin is conveniently close to the town of Ennis, it is far enough away that visitors will experience the true Montana, where strangers will give you a friendly wave, where there is plenty of elbow room and open space, and where the stars and Milky Way of the night sky are spectacularly three-dimensional. This “old Montana” setting is enhanced by the authentic Western theme of the cabin. You just can’t get this experience by staying in town.
This is a cabin that, unlike a sterile, assembly-line hotel room or condo, will quickly feel like home. The hosts have thought of everything. It is very comfortable, quiet, easy living. There’s nothing like a cup of hot coffee in the morning on the front deck while watching the antelope graze, or in the afternoon, enjoying a glass of wine while watching the sunset.
The cabin is close to Madison River fishing accesses, 20 minutes from Ennis Lake, 14 miles to Virginia City and 1 hour from Bozeman & the Gallatin Airport. Along the way, visit the Water of the Gods Hot Springs in Norris for a relaxing soak!
River rafting is a must and the mountain biking and hiking are unending. The entrance to West Yellowstone is approximately one hour drive away. Big Sky also offers many outdoor activities in both winter and summer.
14 miles to the West are the historical towns of Virginia City and Nevada City. From V.C. you can take a train through Alder Gulch to N.C for Gold Panning and a tour through the historical town. There are many shops and restaurants, a candy shop, homemade ice cream shop, hotel, theater, drama. A fun day trip. Check out the Virginia City Players and the Virginia City Brewery Follies!
There is so much to do in the vicinity of the cabin that even a week’s worth of time isn’t enough to do more than scratch the surface. It’s a great base camp for exploring other areas, but unlike camping, there is a hot shower, full kitchen, and comfortable beds at the end of the day. Incidentally, the best fishing on the Madison River was just a leisurely ten-minute drive down the road. But for non–anglers, there are plenty of other things to see and do, or, to simply rest and relax.
Besides the fly fishing and hunting, Ennis is also the home of many different churches and places of worship. Antique stores line the quaint Main Street of Ennis, as well as gift shops, art galleries, unique restaurants and fun saloons.
4th of July celebrations are a blast! The annual rodeo, parade and BBQ's by local businesses create the festive air and Chamber of Commerce commemorative T-shirts are available for your souvenirs. The whole town comes out for the celebrations!! Labor Day weekend is the annual Fly Fishing Festival.
October is also a spectacular month with the fall foliage in full glory along the beautiful Madison River. The air is crisp with the smell of autumn.
In general, this is paradise!!
We also have a mobile home available for rent. It is located in the town of Ennis on the east end of a street with fantastic views of the Madison River. It is within walking distance to downtown. It has 2 bedrooms (double bed, a single bed and a rollaway bed), 1 bath, living room, kitchen/dining room, laundry room, nice fenced yard, a small garage. Parking is on the street or in the driveway. No pets, please. This is an older mobile home and will rent for $500 per week (6 nights; check out on day 7 by noon), or $150 per night: 2 night minimum. A $200 deposit is required to secure your dates and a $100 refundable cleaning deposit is required. If you are interested in renting this, please send an email and I will send photos.
