We are a group of friends that rent a cabin once a year to go play in the snow. I can honestly say without a doubt that the Rifugio Cabin is the best overall cabin we have stayed at in the past ten years. Clean bedrooms and bathrooms, good sized kitchen and family room, beautifully decorated, nice open walk in shower in the master bedroom, all sheets and towels first class, stocked kitchen and lots of room to play. It is really like being in someone's home rather than renting a cabin. Thank you Pam and Paul for sharing with us and we look forward to many more visits.

It is difficult for me to put into words, just how much we love Paul and Pam and Rifugio Di Montagna! This past September, we held a surprise 80th Bday party here for my Mother. We had people come in from far and wide to make it a special celebration for her. But, what really made this an event to remember, was this cabin. To say that you will feel at home here is an understatement! To be honest, you may actually feel like you wish this WAS your home! Paul and Pam have taken such careful pains to make sure everything is comfortable, charming and beautiful. You truly feel like you are staying at someone's home, rather than a random cabin. (** when you stay, pay careful attention to the lovely plates on the dining room wall and be sure to read the story behind them....truly touching.) Pam & Paul are sure to make you feel special, as if you are the only ones ever to stay there! You may even be lucky enough to receive one of Pam's incredible gift baskets, which will be waiting for you on the kitchen counter, upon your arrival. Their kindness and thoughtfulness knows no bounds. All of our guests, whether staying the night, or merely there for the party, were astounded at how gorgeous this place is! Lots of oohs and ahhs could be heard, as they entered to join the festivities. Just about everything has been thought of for you, from games, to books, to DVDs, to flashlights, even snow gear! It's like having a group of Boy or Girl Scouts there right before you, making sure no detail was spared and every contingency was met. We truly look forward to visiting Rifugio again. Whether it be Summer, or Winter, or any season in between. We know that a refuge from our hectic lives will surely be found. We thank Paul and Pam for making this such a wonderful weekend. We were so lucky to have stayed in your "home".

The Refugio was one of the best vacation rentals I've stayed in - it was spacious, comfortable and well-stocked. And it was great for kids - we were three couples, each with a toddler. The large front deck was basically a giant playpen in the trees, and we made our own sledding trail right behind the house. We had quite an adventure with the snowfall but Pam and Paul were prepared - Paul came to our rescue with the snowblower so we could go home on Sunday (thanks Paul!!!). Adults and toddlers alike had a really great time in the house and we're already talking about going back!

This was our first trip to Rifugio Di Montagna. If you want to treat yourself to a lovely vacation home, this is it! Everything was as described and more. The kitchen was stocked beyond belief, the beds were incredibly comfortable, the home was decorated beautifully and very clean and welcoming. Paul and Pam put a lot of thought and energy into this home and it certainly made our stay quite a lovely experience. The weather was perfect and there was an abundance of snow. Leland High Sierra just beyond Dodge Ridge is highly recommended for snow play. Many snowball fights took place right at Rifugio and the grandchildren also enjoyed ice skating at Long Barn. Pam and Paul are wonderful hosts and so easy to communicate with. We are looking forward to our next stay.

We plan on returning in the future to experience the summer months. We truly had a 5 star resort experience. Thank you so much. The Trujillo family

What a beautiful cabin, Pam was a gracious host with out even being there. The basket was just a added touch that made it that more special. Even thou there wasn't that much snow at the cabin, the location was great, the grandkids went ice skating at Long Barn and sleigh riding at Pine Crest. Had the best time and would recommend this cabin in a heart beat! Thanks Paul and Pam. The Tobins Modesto.

This is so much more than a "cabin"; it's a beautiful two story gem. There are cathedral windows that showcase the wonderful snow laden pines, and tasteful touches everywhere! The kitchen is fully stocked. We cooked for 11 people and had no problem with a lack of anything! All the modern appliances to make everything easy. Lots of room for everybody. Pam decorated the whole place for Xmas too. A big tree, hats on the bears, little touches everywhere. Pam and Paul were excellent hosts and very pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend this rental and will go there again!

Our family spent a long weekend at Rifugio in November....the first snow of the season. It was wonderful! Not only were the accomodations top-notch - everything we needed to have our extended family with us - the snow was beautiful. When the snow began it didn't stop...but neither did Paul!! He made sure we had access to our vehicles and everything was okay. We enjoyed our time - cooked lots and never lacked for a pot or pan or dish in the kitchen - watched the snow, played games, watched football and movies, played in the snow....great time. All of the bedrooms were cozy, clean and comfy...excellent property. Thanks Pam and Paul!!

The Refugio is not a cabin. It's a comfortable, spacious, well-built, essentially brand-new family house that could have been decorated by a professional interior designer in sage and rust tones. The bedding is excellent and ample: sheets, towels and extra blankets/pillows are supplied. Stripping the sheets off the beds and plopping the first load into the washing machine is a small price to pay for the luxury of not lugging my own feather beds/sheets/comforters/pillows, as I have done in the years past when renting through the local realtor Brezina. The toileteries and condiments are provided, and a lovely wicker basket of artisan pasta, pasta sauce, wine and chocolates means that you can put off food shopping till next morning.
Owner response:Thank you, Natasha, for such a lovely review and for taking such good care of Rifugio while you and your family were there! Just a little disclaimer for those who may be contemplating renting Rifugio: We do love leaving a gift basket for all our renters, but the contents are not always the same . . . we like to surprise you!!! I guess what we're saying is - bring groceries the first night just in case your basket has only wine, cheese & chocolates!! P & P

Our yearly family vacation to Pinecrest was wonderful and our stay at your cabin was FABULOUS!!! The decor, layout and cozy feel was like being in our own cabin. There is such a warm feeling of welcome and peace and your choice of gift basket items is tasteful and delicious. You both have put a lot of love and effort into this cabin and certainly make your guests stay enjoyable. Undoubtedly the best cabin we have stayed in over the years. We will return for many more memories. Thanks for sharing!

Had a wonderful vacation week at Rifugio. The cabin is very modern, clean and decorated with Bears. The kitchen is wonderful and fully stocked. We enjoyed having wine on the deck and adding a few wine corks to the cabin's collection. The beds are very comfortable and we had a quiet nights sleep. The gift basket upon arrival was a nice touch. Pinecrest lake is close by and we enjoyed the 4 mile hike around the lake. The lake is great place in summer for swimming, hiking, boating and a picnic. We enjoyed BBQ on deck and eating out at local restaurants. Had wonderful stay!!

We arrived at the cabin to find your beautiful welcome basket, and exclaimed and pored over its thoughtful contents as we did your beautiful home, noting the exquisite details in its craftsmanship, the lovely decor and tasteful design touches and the majesty of your vaulted ceilings in the Great Room. After spending the past few months nearly homebound with our newest addition to the family, I was so thankful for a beautiful change of scene among the comforts of your home, walking the deck in the warm afternoon hours, listening to the baby coo as she stared up at the swaying pines overhead. Most of our family are avid fisher-folk, so while Grandpa, Grandma, Daddy and our oldest jaunted off to the lake, the baby and I were once again homebound, as she nursed her way through the latest growth spurt, sleeping and eating for the majority of our time there. While many might think being left behind and cabin-bound are the recipe for insanity, I gladly welcomed the quiet and beauty, and my vacation felt very much like escaping off to a mountain spa. I LOVED the master bathroom's shower, and with the baby soundly napping, felt as though I escaped off to a resort for the longest and most relaxing shower in many, many months, drinking in the luxury of your lavender soaps, the small indulgences and kindnesses that a tired mommy takes great comfort in! The lovely stone tiling, the view of the backyard trees and the heady scent of lavender flooding the room were all on par with the finest spa offerings, and that moment alone was my vacation! Thank you for creating such beauty in your home, a visual buffet of little trinkets and treasures to discover and admire from the kitchen's collection of woodland critters to the fascinating collage of plates adorning the dining room wall. We relished how our morning coffee with toast and eggs seemed to taste better in the mountain air, enjoying leisurely meals around your generous table, the casual winding down of the day in conversation and story-telling, those moments that become so precious and needed in the busyness of life. Thank you for taking such care in providing for all of our needs, for ensuring our every comfort and lavishing all of those extra thoughtful details that made us feel even more pampered!

This cabin was such a great find- a true gem! Pam and Paul were a pleasure to work with and even checked up on us before the big Easter storm of 2010. Then Paul drove up to shovel us out after the storm! Their cabin is more like a lovely home, with every amenity you could imagine at your disposal. There was an Easter-themed gift basket waiting for us in the kitchen- that was such a sweet touch! There are lots of windows with lovely views in every direction. There is artwork on the walls and attractive, comfortable furniture throughout. Everything you could possibly need to know about your stay is spelled out on laminated sheets hanging near the entrance. We cooked several meals (including Easter dinner) in the user-friendly kitchen with great success. There were comfortable beds for everyone in our group of 7. The kids had so much fun walking in the fresh snow, icicle hunting, snowball throwing, sledding and skiing at Dodge Ridge. I can make one guarantee- we WILL return to Rifugio Di Montagna!

We had such a great family trip at Rifugio Di Montagna. It was our sons first snow experience and it was perfect. There were great places to sled right outside of the cabin, we never left the cabin/surrounding area. The cabin itself is not a cabin, but a mountain HOME. Everything was very clean and the kitchen was great. Pam & Paul were absolutely a pleasure to do business with and we hope to stay at Rifugio Di Montagna again! You will not be disappointed with this rental!

Its ski week, where should we go? Hence the name ski week, up to the snow. From Menlo Park, to the house of Pam and Paul. Its the best one weve been to, the best of them all. A basket of goodies, oh what a treat, What a welcoming house, that we get to meet. An awesome backyard, all coated in snow, do we have that in Menlo Park?...NO Up to Dodge Ridge, for snowboards and skis. WOOOOOOSH down the hills, as fast as you please. Oh no our stays over! We have to go. But we'll back again soon, I just know.

Rifugio has become our "base" for winter wonderland. I stopped counting - I think we have been there 5 or 6 times! The house is beautifully furnished and decorated and very clean. Everything is stocked (even things like omelette pan in the kitchen, dvds for kids in the Living Room, and some best seller books for adults in the bedroom). The beds are extra comfortable, the inflatables and the futon included. Skiing at Dodge Ridge (very family-friendly, with a recently added new building) is only 15 minutes away, if that. It is perfect for our family (3 boys), or two families with kids. The owners are very nice and attentive to every detail. And, I can't forget to mention Pam's welcome basket!

More kudos for Pam and Paul. We spent Christmas 2009 at Refugio, our first (but hopefully not last) visit. Beautifully decked out for the holiday, we arrived to Christmas lights and a gracefully and tastefully decorated tree. We truly appreciate all your efforts to make our stay wonderful. If you're looking for a great home to rent near the Pinecrest / Dodge Ridge area, you cannot go wrong staying here. It's super clean, has a fantastic kitchen and is overall a great place to cook, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the Sierras. Thanks Again!

Rifugio Di Montagna, a beautiful mountain home nestled within the heart of the redwoods, is the nicest vacation rental we have had the pleasure to stay at. Each and every room is fashionably decorated with personal touches throughout. The master bedroom's shower is fabulous! Every possible need had been anticipated and accounted for. The basket of gourmet foods we received upon our arrival was a welcoming gesture not often encountered in our travels and one which was greatly appreciated. Thank you Paul and Pam.

My wife and I rented this property for 1 week in July, 2009 as a "getaway" to enjoy with our daughters and our grandchildren. We were not disappointed; this was by far the nicest mountain property we have ever rented. The property was more than amply supplied with necessary items and the owner even drove up from Stockton on our first day to make sure everything was as it should be. We will definitely rent this property again in the future as the ONLY draw back was no air conditioning and we happened to have 3 days in a row of triple digit temps during our stay. We even had deer in the side yard the first morning of our stay which the grand children really enjoyed watching for over 30 minutes!! Thank you again!!!!

My stay at Rifugio Di Montagna was perfect. We were a party of eight ranging in age from 12 to 75 and everyone loved their stay at Rifugio. We hope to return again but this time will stay at least a week. It was the most beautiful cabin I have ever seen. It was immaculate and cozy. Games for the kids and a wonderful gift basket of treats (including two bottles of wine) for the adults awaited us. Truely paradise in the mountains. If you enjoy relaxing in a beautiful mountain setting this is the vacation for you. We hiked around Pinecrest lake and went horseback riding through mountain meadows. We ate at several of the local restaraunts which were excellent and cooked several more in the very well equiped kitchen. All in all we could not have had a more wonderful and relaxing stay. We were made to feel very comfortable and welcome. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous cabin with us.

For the 2nd year in a row, we enjoyed our stay at Rifugio Di Montagna! As before, Paul and Pam were wonderful hosts, and the cabin was just perfect for our group of 4 adults and 3 kids. The christmas lights around the house allowed us to play in the snow at night, and the kids just loved the glow stick bracelets that we found in the gift basket! We were so pleased to discover Rifugio Di Montagna for our 2008 Christmas gathering. With a group of 10 adults and children, there was room for all to be comfortable and content. The house is well-supplied and beautifully maintained. We even arrived to a decorated Christmas tree and house trimmings to capture that home feeling. To top it off, the kids and the kids "at heart" had a great time in the snow right on the property and at the nearby Dodge Ridge Ski Area. Paul & Pam were so hospitable and accommodating. We were greeted with a lovely gift basket, the driveway was snowplowed, and they quickly responded to any questions we had. We look forward to coming back again, and we highly recommend Rifugio Di Montagna for any family gathering.

Our stay at Rifugio di Montagna was absolute heaven! From the delicious welcome basket, to the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, to the well stocked kitchen, this cabin is so perfect none of us would change anything about it. We have 4 kids ages 7-11 and they had plenty to do and actually loved the cabin and helped keep it clean! Pam and Paul were gracious hosts, even when we lost their key and lockbox top. They feel like family and we hope to meet them when we return to the cabin in the summer. Paul and Pam jump through all the hoops, and then some, to make your stay first class, comfortable and fun. We plan on going back each summer and winter. You won't go wrong renting Rifugio di Montagna and will want to go back!

We had a wonderful stay. It was a great thanksgiving weekend with beautiful weather. This cabin is far more then a cabin. It is like you are staying in a retreat just like the name!! It has everything you need for a great vacation. The beds are the best, comfortable and make you want to stay in bed all weekend. There were plenty of options of places to sleep. This was great for our kids they loved it. The kitchen was heaven to cook in. A great stocked kitchen with all kinds of cooking gear. All we had to bring was the roaster for the turkey. Containers for our left over food, spices, and bags for snacks. Enough seating for everyone to eat!! The view is beautiful and peaceful. We loved all the little touches and our gift basket just made our stay wonderful. Pam & Paul have done a great job making you feel as you our their personal guests. The game cabinet was well stocked and a nice selection of movies. Our kids of ages from 2- 11 had a blast and can't wait to return. We look forward to a future stay in the spring or summer time. We have rented several houses for our yearly family trip to Pinecrest, however, none even come close to the attention to detail and hospitality that Paul and Pam gave us. The pictures of the house online do not do the house justice! The rooms are more spacious and flowing, the kitchen is well equipped and spacious, and and even the areobeds were labeled in their own container boxes complete with sheets, pillows, and instructions. My family really enjoyed our stay at Rifugio Di Montagna. Actually, it was my family of 4, my best friends family of 3 and my parents. We were all able to stay comfortably. Everything in the home was so modern and easy to use. The bedding and towels provide were nicer than what I have at home. Although we were there over a hot week-end the cabin stayed relatively cool. It was nice to have the I-pod dock and there is a great DVD collection to choose from. We enjoyed a lot of time on the spacious deck. The only drawback to this cabin is the parking. There is room for two vehicles but the driveway is steep and it is best to back into the parking spaces. The owners were great with communication and refunded our deposit the day after we left. We feel fortunate to have stayed at this beautiful cabin and highly recommend it to others.
